Okay .. have dovecot set up with following settings : userdb static { args = uid=97 gid=97 home=/export/dovecot/mail/%d/%u mail=mbox:/export/dovecot/mbox/%d/%u/ } passdb passwd-file { # Path for passwd-file args = /etc/dovecot-passdb } Passdb works I think in the sense that I can log into dovecot using a regular mail client. The real issue is when I try to deliver any type of mail using dovecot-lda (deliver). deliver is setuid and setgid dovecot .. I event se the static mail dirs above to be owned by dovecot (I know .. a no no .. but wanted to trace down issue) I also have first_valid_uid = 96 and first_valid_uid = 96 Now .. when I try to do this .. echo "A Test Message" | /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d existinguser I get this .. master in: USER 1 echo service=deliver dovecot: Mar 11 23:45:24 Info: auth(default): master out: USER 1 echo uid=97 gid=97 home=/export/dovecot/mail//echo mail=mbox:/export/dovecot/mbox//echo/ dovecot: Mar 11 23:45:24 Error: auth(default): deliver: Fatal: setgroups(97) failed: Operation not permitted 97 is the gid for the dovecot user .. which owns just about everything deliver could ever touch. What am I missing ?

[Dovecot] Maildirquota

Hi, I'd like to use dovecot+postfix (with Maildir) for several virtual email servers, but one requirement is quota support. I'm aware about the lack of maildirquota support in dovecot, and I found a patch in the "unofficial patches" section which is said to provide maildirquota support to dovecot. How stable is this patch?, is it usable with dovecot 1.0b2?. And, is there any plan to support maildirquota natively in the near future?, I'd like to replace courier-imap in my setup. Thanks. [Dovecot] SASL bind for LDAP

Hi, would it be possible to add support for SASL binds to dovecot's LDAP userdb/passdb? This would be a nice feature as it would allow the use of SASL EXTERNAL binds to a local LDAP server, thereby removing the need for storing clear-text passwords in configuration files. Regards, Geert

[Dovecot] blank forwarded messages

Just switched from uw to dovecot ( latest beta3 + lda ) on production system and everything seems fine except... There's some strange problem with forwarding messages from thundebird, the body of the forwarded message is always completely blank - 0 byte size. Forwarding from squrrel, horde, eudora and outlook works fine. Client setup on thunderbird installs hasn't changed a bit. I'm still investigating why this is happening. Has anyone run into this ?

[Dovecot] phantom new mail (mailboxes keep on being reported as having new mail)

Hi, I'm using dovecot 1.0_beta3 on Gentoo Linux, and am experiencing a problem of what I call 'phantom mail'. This problem I have for a long time (pre 1.0), but at the moment I'm using 1.0_beta3 and the problem still is in there. My setup is as follows: - regular x86 box - running Exim and Dovecot - Exim saves new mail in maildir format in a local filesystem /mail/user/blabla - Dovecot reads and serves IMAP from local filesystem /mail/user/blabla - client is Mutt and/or Thunderbird from any OS (Mac, Linux, Windows) via IMAP Situation that happens: I get new mail in a folder, say =news (in Mutt style, it's .news dir in the maildir directory). I read the item, Mutt (or Thunderbird) marks the item as read (moving it over to cur aswell I think), save the folder, then move on to another folder. At this point dovecot IMAP server indicates to the client that there is new mail in the folder =news. If I visit the folder with the client, I see no new mail, and sometimes I have two or three of those folders, and I can keep on cycling with Mutt till I get bored :). Before upgrading Dovecot, I knew of no way to resolve this problem; eventually, it seemed that at some point the folder seemed to figure out itself that there was indeed no new mail. Sometimes I could trick it by letting Mutt mark the mail as new again, and then save the folder. Didn't always work. Now, I think a week or two ago I upgraded Dovecot and had to manually move all the .subscription files, and I also in one go decided to remove the dovecot* and .imap* files. That cleaned up, and at first that looked like it solved my problem. Not. So I figured out throwing away dovecot's index stuff (rm dovecot* in the directory that shows phantom mail) resolves the problem. However, this method starts to get annoying so to say. The 1141544380 entry comes from the first row of the dovecot-uidlist file: 1 1141544380 51 I guess it's just some sort of line to keep track of the last timestamp and the number of messages or something. If my theory is right here then it looks as if the 'bad entry' is actually more recent than this most recent timestamp reports. But this is only speculation of course. Enough for this lenghty mail I guess. Is this a known issue, or can it be caused by the way I set up my system? I must note that this only happens for some folders, not all of them. Hi, I've seen you commited a lot of quota work tonight. I'm still unable to get the filesystem quota working, and I wonder if it's just me that is stupid, or if theres a bug somewhere. I enable quota and imap_quota plugins, I set fs in my ldap-base for quota, and logons. I then get this: dovecot: imap(ingvild): fs quota add storage dir = /home/ingvild/Maildir dovecot: imap(ingvild): fs quota: mount path for /home/ingvild/Maildir not found from /etc/mtab In my logs... [Dovecot] dovecot NTLM authentication

Hi, I'm trying to configure DoveCot to allow NTLM authentication. I've successfully authenticated with Outlook 2003 against Dovecot when the passdb backend used to store the password is a passwd-file. It doesn't matter if the passwd-file contains plain or NTLM encrypted passwords. When I compare the NTLM hash provided by the dovecotpw utility to the one I have in my SAMBA ldap, it appears to be exactly the same. When I use the LDAP passdb backend, I can see in the log file that dovecot has received the correct NTLM hash value, but outlook fails to authenticate successfully. I'm using the debianized dovecot version v1.0.beta2. I can post my dovecot-ldap.conf file, if it will help. Can anybody help me configure my dovecot to allow Outlook to perform NTLM authentication when the password database is in LDAP? Thanks, Lior Okman

[Dovecot] fcntl error

Error: imap(user): fcntl() failed with mbox file /var/mail/user: Resource temporarily unavailable The user is using Outlook, I am not sure what the issue is, I am running Freebsd 6.0 and Dovecot 1.0.3 The user report that the gets about 60 of his inbox then I see this error in my error log. He is only running one instance of outlook Doug

[Dovecot] Digest-MD5 authentication problems

Hello, I have dovecot setup to pull passwords stored in plain from a database. My allowed authentication mechanisms are cram-md5 and digest-md5. Cram works but digest fails on my evolution client with and authentication failed. The server is running dovecot 0.99.14-1 on debian sarge. The user logging in is test(a)advanced-reality.com. Some potentially relevant portions of dovecot.conf are: auth_mechanisms = digest-md5 cram-md5 auth_default_realm = auth_user = dovecot-auth >From the logs with auth_verbose = yes and auth_debug = yes in dovecot.conf: Mar 16 08:12:51 localhost dovecot-auth: PGSQL: Performing query: SELECT password FROM mailbox WHERE username = 'test' AND domain = 'advanced-reality.com' AND active IS TRUE Mar 16 08:12:51 localhost dovecot-auth: digest-md5(test(a)advanced-reality.com): password mismatch Mar 16 08:12:51 localhost pop3-login: Aborted login [64.81.224.97] Some preliminary searching led me to this: http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2003-November/002598.html Is there a problem with digest-md5 in this version of dovecot?
