However the %%h gives me head aches, well, the location in general: I've copied the default mail_location and changed its CONTROL and INDEX settings: namespace shared { ... location = maildir:%%h/Maildir:CONTROL=/var/cache/dovecot/%i/control/shared/%%u:INDEX=/var/cache/dovecot/%i/index/shared/%%u } Now the first wows are that: a) IMAP insists to connect to $install_prefix/var/run/dovecot/auth-master instead of /var/run/dovecot/auth-master used by deliver. My workaround was to symlink /var/run/dovecot/ to $install_prefix/var/run/dovecot/ b) This socket needs to be r/w for every user, which is a security risk as mentioned in the conf and the default permission is 0600. Some of them even do not have the Maildir. That leads to the problem, that I need one shared namespace for each location template. There had been a suggestion of a special user-shared namespace a while back. How about to add the base location in the shared-mailboxes.db? So instead of "1" the value is the base of the shared location, e.g. maildir:/local/testuser or maildir:/home/user/Maildir..., and some %%? token takes the string from there. Because the path is known from the db now, the other problems mentioned above do no longer apply. Hello guys I am having problem of pop3 with my mail server I am using postfix-2.3.3 and Dovecot v1.0.7 when i telnet localhost or xyz.net i get following output [root@dalvis ~]# telnet mail.xyz.net 110 Trying 192.168.12.14... [Dovecot] auth_cache multiple passwords ?

Hi, First, thanks Timo and Stefan for this great IMAP/Sieve implementation... We are using 1.1.16+cmu_sieve/managesieve additions for now (following releases since ~ 1.0.1). We have a specific problem here with auth-cache: We use direct imap/sieve connection from different clients, using LDAP password: everything is fine. The problem appears with our webmail access using a web-SSO system (jasig's CAS), using one-time-tickets as password for imap connections (checked by pam_cas module for now). For a single webmail connection par login, it work, thanks to cache_key using client's IP. But for multiple use of the same login in the webmail, there are more than one 'password' valid at a time… What may be the 'correct' solution: - patching auth-cache.c (auth_cache_lookup function ?) - writing a different login backend ? - ??? But why? Shouldn't they belong to the CONTROL= directories? So it is more compatible with filesystem quota. + They have 0666 permissions, but all other files (e.g. when I create a new mailbox) have 0660 permissions. Are the permissions selected explicitly to allow "a"-right for other (system) users? + When one removes all rights, the size of the file drops to zero. The wasted space is no great deal; but how much processing is wasted if such file is present? I mean, the log says that the files are opened very regularily. Would it help to remove zero-size files? Hello, I'm running Dovecot 1.1.13 on FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE and I'm receiving a large number of errors much like the following: dovecot: Jun 08 09:27:04 Error: IMAP(x(a)x.x): Corrupted index cache file /nfs/x.x/x/Maildir/dovecot.index.cache: Corrupted physical size for uid=2284: 5312 != 5217 dovecot: Jun 08 09:27:04 Error: IMAP(x(a)x.x): Corrupted index cache file /nfs/x.x/x/Maildir/dovecot.index.cache: Corrupted physical size for uid=2281: 6992 != 6894 dovecot: Jun 08 09:31:17 Error: IMAP(y(a)y.y): Corrupted index cache file /nfs/y.y/y/Maildir/dovecot.index.cache: Corrupted physical size for uid=9241: 14545 != 14453 dovecot: Jun 08 09:37:05 Error: IMAP(z(a)z.z): Corrupted index cache file /nfs/z.z/z/Maildir/dovecot.index.cache: Corrupted physical size for uid=22741: 12150 != 12066 These are not occurring for all users, but it occurs frequently for the addresses that do show up in the logs. The maildirs are migrated from a previous courier server. I've tried searching the archives and can't find anything related to this error. Could someone shed some light on it? [Dovecot] dovecot and ntp: Fatal: Time just moved backwards

Hallo, I am running dovecot on a PC (a workstation) to have a mail client independent storage for my mails. Now I would like to have the system clock set correctly by using ntpd or ntpdate (using debian/sid). The problem is, that the PC is not online at boot time, but is set online on demand manually using "pon" to start the pppd later. So ntpd cannot sync the time on boot time before dovecot gets started. First I was using ntpdate that was started in ppp's if.up.d/ directory. This tool does set the time very hard instead of just slightly shifting some milliseconds. So dovecot did stop itself, reporting: "Fatal: Time just moved backwards by 118 seconds. This might cause a lot of problems, so I'll just kill myself now." So I have tried ntpd as I thought it shifts the time in smaller time deltas. But this takes much time (several seconds) when booting, giving up on all configured servers, because they are not reachable when booting (as going online later manually). This turns off ntp functionality because ntpd does think that all servers are unreachable for ever. (I have tried a command "dynamic" in ntp.conf but this did not change anything and ntpd reports it to be obsolete.) My idea now is to not start ntpd on system boot, but only on if-up. But this brings up the same fatal error of dovecot as ntpd seems to hardly set the time, too. The only idea I have left is to stop dovecot, start ntpd and then start dovecot again on if-up. Is there a more elegant way to use dovecot and ntpd on a manually dialed in PC? Thanks, Arno
