auth between postfix and dovecot?

hello experts, I have installed postfix and dovecot in the same machine. Their configure looks as: service lmtp { unix_listener /var/spool/postfix/private/dovecot-lmtp { mode = 0600 user = postfix group = postfix } unix_listener /var/spool/postfix/private/auth { mode = 0666 user = postfix group = postfix } auth_mechanisms = plain login !include auth-passwdfile.conf.ext my question is: when postfix talks to dovecot, does it require user's username/password for authentication? or this communication just goes without authentication? I asked this, b/c my webmail send mail from localhost has been going without authentication to postifx. so i am not sure if postfix talks to dovecot without requiring auth too. Thanks alice

Weird status... " noselect"... why ?

a list "" * gives me this * LIST (\HasChildren \UnMarked) "/" INBOX/2022-PERSONNEL/FOO2 * LIST (\HasNoChildren \UnMarked) "/" INBOX/2022-PERSONNEL/FOO2/test * LIST (\Noselect \HasChildren) "/" INBOX/2022-PERSONNEL/FOO2/test * LIST(\Noselect \HasNoChildren) "/" INBOX/2022-PERSONNEL/FOO2/test/Location As you can see there is " noselect " and with Thunderbird this is in grey.. Due to a bad manipulation. I wanted to create a subfolder and I wrote "FOO2/test" when FOO2 didn't exist yet Now " test" is grey and I cannot place anything inside.. I didn't see this at first sight and I've placed important emails in it, that it didin't synch... and which which seems to be lost :-( a Repair didn't work out How can I " revalidate " this folder ? without removing it ? ( hoping to get something in it ) Thanks

replication fails with "Error: sync: Unknown user in remote" but user shows up in doveadm user "*"

Hello, I've been trying to replicate a production server (debian buster, dovecot 2.3.4.1). But I nothing is actually being replicated and for each attempted user the message "Error: sync: Unknown user in remote" is being logged. The ldap settings are actually the same on both server (source and destnation) and the "unknown user" is actually showing up in doveadm user "*" on the destination server. I had already replicated 2 servers and used the same settings. Am I missing something obvious here? disabling namespace in special-userdb on dovecot 2.2

Currently I have such special-userdb file test:x:11111:22222:testaccount_descr:/home/users/testaccount:/bin/false:userdb_mail=mbox:~/mbox:INBOX=/home/users/testaccount/inbox:INDEX=/home/users/testaccount/index However I am still getting errors of a default configured namespace that still seems to be active. Is there a way to disable this namespace or reconfigure this in the userdb file? (When I was testing this on a dovecot 2.3 I did not run into this)

[1st issue] =========== Both Roundcube and Squirrelmail webmail cannot search for anything because there are more than 200,000 emails in my Inbox. Roundcube webmail doesn't show any error. Search results simply don't show up after a long time. However, I got the following error in Squirrelmail webmail (using Firefox web browser). ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. Query: SEARCH CHARSET ISO-8859-1 ALL SUBJECT "keyword" [2nd issue] ============ Both Roundcube and Squirrelmail webmail cannot open many emails because there are more than 200,000 emails in my inbox. Roundcube webmail gives the following error: SERVER ERROR! Could not load message from server. Squirrelmail webmail gives the following error: ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. Query: FETCH 1 BODY[HEADER] My IMAP server is Dovecot version 2.2.36. Virtualmin version is 6.17. Webmin version is 1.990. Usermin version is 1.834. Authentic theme version is 19.85.1. However, using Samsung Email app on my Samsung Galaxy A32 5G Android phone, I am able to open emails it seems. Only Roundcube and Squirrelmail webmail appears to have issues opening emails. Using Samsung Email app, I have deleted around 6,000 useless emails so far but still unable to search and open emails. Looks like I need to delete more and more useless emails. temporary block incoming messages to specific user

Is it possible to block incoming messages from being delivered to a specific user in such a way that the MTA will try again later. I do not want these message to bounce. (eg while doing some manual maintenance on the user)?

NFS Config vs Ceph / GlusterFS

Do all of the configuration considerations pertaining to using NFS on https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/nfs/ equally apply to using something like Ceph / GlusterFS? And if people wouldn't mind chiming in with which (NFS, Ceph & GlusterFS) they feel is better for maildir mail storage on dedicated non-container servers? Which is better for robustness / stability? Which is better for speed / performance? Thank you.
