I'm running Dovecot 1.1 RC1. I believe I've done all the due diligence for making things working correctly over nfs. But I run into locking issues if I run over nfs. procmail is doing the delivery over nfs. uw-imap was ruining over nfs. dovecot is fine if its on the nfs server (i.e. it has local access to the disk, no nfs) I run into lock deadlocks if I run dovecot over nfs Users are directed to different servers, but a given users will always get the same server (at least until there's no activity for that user for over an hour). This only applies to when running dovecot over nfs. Everybody goes to the nfs server otherwise. Sometimes I can kill all the processes, remove the dot locks, and recover. Something I need to reboot the nfs server to recover. Let me give a run down of the particulars: All the mail is in mbox format. everybody runs linux with kernel 2.6.24.2 (any known nfs locking issues there?). delivery is done via procmail, its locking and dovecot's are both dotlock, fcntl. The nfs mount options are actimeo=3,hard,noatime,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,nfsvers=3 The clocks are in sync. Dovecot.conf: protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s login_greeting = imap ready. mail_location = mbox:~/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u mmap_disable = yes mail_nfs_storage = yes mail_nfs_index = yes protocol imap { } protocol pop3 { pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv } auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } user = root } dict { } plugin { } Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hy I use dovecot with quota support. I did a test with a webmail client (roundcube) & quota= 10 M when I have used 100% of the quota assigned to the mail account , I cannot delete any mail Is it possible to create a kind of warning mail about 80% of quota use or overpass quota for delete operations? [Dovecot] links causing dovecot endless search through user's homedirs

Hello, My user's imap folder locations are a mess. Some have them in /home/username/mail but a lot of them just have them in /home/username. So I need to have dovecot's base imapdir pointed directly at the user's homedirs. My problem now is that a lot of users have many links in their homedirs. Some even have circular links, such as: /home/username/foo/foo1/foo2/foo3/foo4 -> /home/username/foo/foo1 All these links are causing some dovecot imap process to endlessly search. [Dovecot] PATCH: compile dovecot-1.1.beta14 with gcc 2.95

Hi, I patched dovecot-1.1.beta14 to compile under gcc 2.95. __builtin_expect and __attribute__((malloc)) are only available since gcc 3.0, and __builtin_types_compatible_p since 3.1. Also the flexible array members (char a[]) are not available for gcc 2.95. So I replaced them with zero-extent arrays (char a[0]), which should also work, but that is gcc specific. A general pointer (char* a) should work as well, I guess. I have attached a patch that fixes all this. It is for beta13 but also works on beta14. BTW.: There is a typo in src/login-common/main.c, it's equivalent, not equilevant. [Dovecot] antispam plugin: crm114 mode:"antispam signature not found"

Hi there, I'm happily using dovecot, and today tried to integrate the antispam imap plugin to automatically train/inform the crm114 spam classifier when moving messages in and out of folder "SPAM" However, when i try to move a message to folder spam, my client (Thunderbirds) says: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responden: antispam signature not found. Checking the source i found in signature.c *signature_hdr = "X-DSPAM-Signature"; This appears to originate from the DSPAM support of the plugin and apparently doesn't find these header lines. When using crm114 to sort spam there is no special header line. (or i didn't turn it on. do i _have_ to?) how can i get that antispam plugin to work with crm114? [Dovecot] Dovecot NFS Indexes and IMAP Migration

Hi there, After being extremely impressed from implementing it in some customer installations, I've decided to migrate our mail infrastructure to dovecot. Being able to have /bin/checkpassword support across the board for pop, imap, and smtp authentication, as well as being able to ditch stunnel for the SSL layer...where were you in 2001?!? :) I have two concerns, the first is about the proper index configuration in our environment, and the second is about the best way to migrate mailboxes. Some quick background: we've long been distributed, with an L4 switch up front and a Netapp in the back, Mysql for metadata. We have a cluster of several FreeBSD boxes doing filtering and maildir delivery (postfix/amavisd-new), and we have a server that users get sent to for pop/imap. If it's down, they get sent to one of the filter boxes instead. So, regarding the indexes: >From reading the docs, it appears I would not be able to use the dovecot LDA due to locking issues (bummer), and I should configure dovecot to store index files on a local disk of the primary pop/imap server rather than on the netapp. My first question would be, how much of a performance hit should I expect from having to update the indexes when mail is checked rather then when mail is delivered since I can't use the LDA? Is this a minor issue like I expect, or can it be something the user actually notices when checking mail? In a worst case scenario, if the pop/imap server is down, and another server is used, how long would it take to create an index for an account with a few hundered megs, several thousand messages? I'm wondering if, since I have plenty of overhead available on the netapp, I should just store the indexes there in case another server must be used. I'm basically looking for more information about the pros and cons of storing the indexes on the nfs volume in a situation where a single server would normally be providing pop/imap service. Regarding migration: My concerns regarding migration relate to how best to process existing maildirs by both converting the previous imap metadata and calculating an initial index for each account. First off, I can't seem to find any info on a way to create an initial index file for all of the mailboxes. Can anybody suggest a command I can use for this? I'm sure I just overlooked it. Regarding the migrations, we have both courier and bincimap to deal with. (We use qmail's pop, so no complications with migrating courier). Fortunately, courier is used for normal imap on 143, bincimap is only used for webmail. So, it would seem that metadata from bincimap could be ignored; the only thing it would seem important to preserve is mailbox subscriptions. Please correct this assumption if I'm wrong. bincimap uses a INBOX/folder format in the subscription file, however the actual folders are stored exactly the same as the INBOX.folder style of courier. So, it seems like my best option is to modify the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script to consider the mailboxes subscribed to via bincimap. Here's a modified convert_subscriptions that seems to work well in limited testing, feel free to point out any idiot mistakes, it's been a while since I've done anything substantial in perl. I've finally added support for "normal" command/reply tests for my imaptest program (http://imapwiki.org/ImapTest) My plan is that imaptest will include some generic IMAP compliancy tests and Dovecot will include some more strict Dovecot-specific checks. "make dist" will run all these tests before building a tarball, so in future I shouldn't be able to release horribly broken versions. :) I haven't yet had time to implement all the features that I'd like (e.g. unordered list handling needs support), but I think the current features will allow testing quite a lot already. http://imapwiki.org/ImapTest/Tests explains how it works. There are currently two files: the actual test file and *.mbox file where the mails are appended from to the test mailbox. I'm going to also add *.conf file which allows specifying specific dovecot.conf settings. This way I can test all these different namespace (etc.) variations as well.
