[Dovecot] Maildir + /var/mail

Hi, I have just switched to Maildir, and I have noticed something. Even though it works properly, I have noticed that a file named /var/mail/user with 0 bytes length is still created. Is this normal? I use sendmail+procmail+dovecot. I have also tried the combined procmail+deliver approach with the same results. I also use a global /etc/procmailrc. Thank you

Hi all, ok, I am updating to the 2.0 way of doing things and have managed to get everything set up right, except I am getting the following errors when attempting to use managesieve with our webmail client (roundcube) that I didnt get when using dovecot 1.2.11... Jun 14 17:20:33 managesieve(address(a)domain.com): Warning: sieve-storage: Active sieve script symlink /home/mailboxes/data/domain/348/address(a)domain.com/.dovecot.sieve is broken: invalid/unknown path to storage (points to Maildir/sieve/roundcube.sieve). I checked, and the link appears to be there, and is a proper symlink to the sieve file... Since upgrading from 2.0beta5 to beta6, I have seen a few pairs of log messages like the following: Jun 13 15:57:17 sbh16 dovecot: imap-login: Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded (mail_max_userip_connections=30): user=<gpc>, method=PLAIN, rip=76.126.100.210, lip=72.52.113.35, mpid=0, TLS Jun 13 15:57:17 sbh16 dovecot: master: Error: service(imap-login): child 16960 killed with signal 11 (core not dumped - add -D parameter to service executable The "Maximum number of connections from user+IP exceeded" message is not new - this is an issue with the K9 mail client on an android phone - but the killing of the child is new in beta 6. 2.0.beta6 assert-fails for me when: - using mdbox (maildir is OK) - my authentication module returns the mail= and mail_location= attributes (relying on mail_location from 10-mail.conf is OK) - a user logs in for the first time and selects his nonexistent INBOX The error is: Panic: file mailbox-list.c: line 318 (mailbox_list_get_unexpanded_path): assertion failed: (*location == '0') The location string is "1mdbox:/Volumes/Mail/joe". This did not happen with beta5. [Dovecot] convert Plugin Error

I am getting an error when using the convert plugin for dovecot. Jun 14 13:27:20 mail dovecot: IMAP(user): Mailbox conversion: rename(/home/user/mail, /home/user/mail-converted) failed: Directory not empty Dovecot creates mail-converted, but does not delete mail completely for some reason. It continues to add a message from the mbox to Maildir format, creating duplicates every time I check my email. I can fix it by deleting mail-converted, but I don't want this to happen to other users on the system. Does anyone have a clue as to why it's doing this, and what I can do to fix it? I can send you my mbox file and home directory structure if you'd like to take a gander at it. Dovecot v1.0.7 Scientific Linux 5.4 (Importing mbox files from RHEL 3.8). -- Thanks, Brad Landis

[Dovecot] Ubuntu upgrade to 10.04 --> dovecot no longer working

Hi, Last year I installed dovecot on my Ubuntu V9 system 64 bit system. I use it to store emails from several clients in the LAN using IMAP. Last week I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. Now Dovecot is no longer working. It started with messages about sieve, so I disabled sieve in the configuration file (did not use it in the past, don't know what it is). Dovecot can now be started without errors or warnings, but I cannot connect in the client. I get a message saying "could not connect to server: connection refused". Hi, I just wanted to test the zlib plugin in Dovecot 2.0 and have a problem. Delivery via LMTP works fine and the mail is saved compressed. -rw------- 1 vmail vmail 1012 13. If you haven't gotten a reply, resend the mail. Some changes since beta5: - Added director: http://blog.dovecot.org/2010/05/new-director-service-in-v20-for-nfs.html - IMAP: Added STATUS (X-VSIZE) command for easily getting mailbox's virtual size. - Lots and lots of doveadm improvements and new commands - Postlogin scripts now need to be executed using "script-login", not "script" binary. - Quota warnings are executed now asynchronously using the new script binary.
