[Dovecot] MySQL as a storage only.?

Hello, I was wondering is I could use MySQL as storage only..? Meaning that no user information, other than the obvious email address associated with an specific email so that each email can be showed to the right user, will be stored in a MySQL database instead of /home/vmail/DOMAIN/<user> Would I get any advantages.? Would it be better, faster? Thanks

[Dovecot] Multiple domains with shared Folder - how to?

Hello, I set up Dovecot so that I now have about 20 domains on my mailserver. So far everything works fine. Now I have the need to set up shared maildirs, but they shall only be shared for the users of just one domain. What do I have to do? Thanks in advance for any hint! Volker

[Dovecot] Is there a straight forward way to associate login with imap process

Hi, Is there a way to associate a user's the login (imap-login) process with the user's 'imap [' process? We are trying to lock down an issue to make sure we full understand it. /proc and shared memory tools weren't particular useful. Just for context, we are having an intermittent locking index cache locking issue that appears to impact only a subset of our users. The index files are on NFS. It may be fixed by a dovecot patch (we are at 1.1.3), adjusting our tcp_timeout on the servers, upgrading out circa 2000 load balancer, the type and configuration of the multiple simultaneous persistent clients that user is using, etc. lslk, alert logs, strace, testing the most recent 1.1.X version, and file mtime is giving us some information but we want to make everything is covered. [Dovecot] POP3 Immediate Connection Termination

Hey everyone... Thanks in advance for any help. I seem to have the opposite problem that a lot of people have - I've been running Dovecot v. 1.0.10 quite successfully for IMAP for several months. However, one of our executives has her heart set on being able to get her mail via POP3. It looks to me like I have both configured, but when trying to log in via a POP3 or POP3s connection either via a client or through telnet, the connection is created than immediately terminated. [Dovecot] SSL certs per listen IP

I'd like to host multiple domains though a central dovecot proxy - however, I need to present different certs to different hostnames (which are on different IPs). I can't see a way to this in the documentation, is it possible? thanks, Ian

[Dovecot] Move mail in Maildir without IMAP

I set-up some spam/ham learning folders where a crontab entry learns the mail and them moves it do a different Maildir folder. Unfortunately, since it has a different dovecot-keywords file, any imap flags get changed to unknown-0, unknown-1 etc. I tried the following, but it didn't work mv "${src_ham}"/cur/* "$dest_ham"/new/ cp "${src_ham}"/dovecot-keywords "${dest_ham}" Is there a simple way to do this correctly without going through IMAP? And are there any more serious consequences of moving mail like this, with dovecot imap running on top.

[Dovecot] Dovecot with LDAP on multiple domains ?

Hello, I intend to set up a mail server for a few domains with Dovecot/Postfix/MySQL/DSPAM and antispam plugin. The better solution to manage users would be to set up a ldap server. [Dovecot] More info from mail_log plugin

HiWe need to track exactly when our users read messages. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how we can achieve this with Dovecot. Then I saw the mail_log plugin.Is it possible to extend the plugin to also log system flag changes? This would be great, because then we could see in the log files when the Seen flag has been set. Changes in user defined flags would also be interesting to track.I know this would create a lot of log entries, but for us this wouldn't be a problem. [Dovecot] "nopassword" extra field useless with LDAP passdb

Hi, We are trying to implement a highly secure mail server with user authentication restricted to SSL certificates only (not using passwords at all). Still, user information is stored in a LDAP directory. In this configuration LDAP is used to check whether the user is registered (and probably supply quota and other info), and actual authentication is done by SSL layer. According to wiki, a "nopassword" extra field should be supplied, together with empty password. But there is no way to return an empty password from LDAP, as LDAP simply does not allow "empty attributes"; if an attribute is present, it is not empty. Supplying empty password as a static field (like this: pass_attrs = uid=user,=password=,nopassword) works an odd way, allowing empty password only, not "any password", and most MUAs (including our target Thunderbird) do not allow empty passwords. Only this allows true "any password" policy. In fact, the problem seems to be a little bit deeper. In our setup user/password challenge is not needed at all. This is exactly what RFC 4959, "IMAP Extension for Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) Initial Client Response", is about (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4959 , see SASL EXTERNAL example).
