Posting here, as Dovecot seems to be the premier IMAP server available. In case anyone is looking for something to work on, I found today that Google Desktop only understands email clients that keep mail on the client, and it would be nice if there was a plugin that understood IMAP. [Dovecot] Dovecot Imap Stopped working

Dovecot has been working fine for months. We are using 1.0. Come in to work today and dovecot quit working POP3 and IMAP. I restarted the service and everything started working except IMAP? We use Dovecot as an authentication method for outgoing mail and it works. I can't telnet to myhostname.com 143, Squirrelmail will NOT work either. Where is a good place to start looking for signs of the problem. When we restart we get no errors, which is strange? K

[Dovecot] alert function (possible WIBNI)

The imapd spec has a provision for an alert pop-up of any ASCII text message contained in /etc/imapd.alert on the IMAP server. Can I assume this is implemented on DC? [Dovecot] Deliver setgid failed: Operation not permitted

Hi all, I'm having trouble getting a new Postfix/Dovecot server up and running. I'm trying to run v1.0.3, using MySQL tables setup list postfix admin. This is a RHEL5 server. Getting this error tail /var/log/dovecot/dovecot-deliver.log deliver(none(a)example.com): Sep 04 19:44:15 Fatal: setgid(12) failed: Operation not permitted That 12 being my vmail user. I'm not exactly sure what's trying to setgid, nor how to fix it, any ideas would be appreciated. [Dovecot] Dovecot + Sieve

Hi guys. I installed dovecot 1.0.3 with sieve plugin. It looks like sieve is loaded fine by dovecot [1]. I set up dovecot to use sieve globally: protocol lda { mail_plugins = cmusieve quota sieve_global_dir = /usr/local/etc/sieve/Junk ..... } And created a sieve file which is supposed to move all the Spam marked by dspam to users's Junk folder (listed as Junk in the subscriptions file) : require ["fileinto"]; # Move spam to Junk folder if header :contains ["X-DSPAM-Result:"] "Spam" { fileinto "Junk"; # Stop here so that we do not reply on spams stop; } I also set up postfix to use pipe mail through dovecot: mailbox_command = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver The problem is dovecot seems to be ignoring my sieve rule and delivers emails directly to INBOX. Any idea how to fix that? [Dovecot] Plugin development question

Hello, >From what I have read on the dovecot site, it's possible to create a plugin for a custom data store format. We have emails in a custom format in a database and would like to create a plugin for accessing these emails through dovecot. Is there any supporting documentation from creating a plugin like this? [Dovecot] RHEL 5.1 beta, Dovecot 1.0.3: error while loading shared libraries?

Hello, I try to run dovecot 1.0.3 on RHEL 5.1 beta. As soon as I start it I get the following output and it's impossible to IMAP-log in over network. I've been following the list for a while and it seems to ring a bell about setting the correct ulimit, but I can't find the thread anymore, so I need to ask. :( Here's the debug output I've put together. For example in src/lib/file-cache.c: if (cache->mmap_base == MAP_FAILED) { Should be fixed, probably like this: if ((int)cache->mmap_base == MAP_FAILED) { There are a lot of occurences for these in the source. GCC only warns because of this, but DEC C is known to consider this an error: Error: file-cache.c, line 79: In this statement, "new_base" and "(-1)" may not be compared for equality or inequality. if (new_base == MAP_FAILED) { And indeed, unsigned integers and -1 are rarely equal. -- Gabucino

[Dovecot] Calculate Index size for harddisk sizing

I need to get a hand on the 'usual size of an index' to do some hard disk sizing. Is that possible at all? I know their size depends a lot on what the clients index. Those clients will mostly be Outlook and Thunderbird and they will be doing more POP than IMAP if that helps to bring it down to some estimation.
