[Dovecot] dovecot IMAPS + kmail
by Timothy Murphy 27 Sep '07

27 Sep '07

I notice that kmail does not allow an IMAP sub-folder to be created (from an IMAPS client). When I try, kmail says this cannot be done for one of the following reasons: Your access permissions may be inadequate to perform the requested operation on this resource. The location where the folder was to be created may not exist. A protocol error or incompatibility may have occurred. Is there any simple way of getting round this? KMail has no problem creating top-level IMAP folders.

[Dovecot] filtering when mail is moved to IMAP Inbox
by Rahul Amaram 27 Sep '07

27 Sep '07

Hi, I have been looking for a solution to this problem for quite sometime but just haven't got any. This is how my current set up is. I have a IMAP Server installed on my home server. It has various folders. I have configured Thunderbird in my laptop to connect to the IMAP Server and access mails. I have also configured Thunderbird to download mails from my GMail account using POP3. I have set up a filter in Thunderbird to move all my mails which come to my Local Folders "Inbox" to my IMAP Server's Inbox. Now here is my question - Is it possible to set up some rules in the IMAP Server (maybe sieve) so that I can filter the messages coming to its Inbox and move them to another folder? The whole idea is that I have control over when I want to fetch mails from my GMail account but at the same time the filtering rules for moving to custom folders should be stored on the server so that i do not replicate this in every client. [Dovecot] blackberry with imap idle and concurrent connections
by Chris Tirpak 26 Sep '07

26 Sep '07

Hello - I've combed the wiki and archives a bit and can't seem to find what I am lookng for. It seems that BlackBerry Internet server has an issue with IMAP accounts along with IDLE and concurrent connections. Please see the following link (sorry it's fairly long): http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalI… It appears as though IDLE can be implemented without "concurrent connections". Courier appears to do this although they have an option to turn it on. At first blush it seems obvious that any mail server will permit concurrent connections but as I read the docs for Courier and BlackBerry it appears to be a subtle thing whereby IDLE allows more than one connection to IDLE against the same IMAP folder when using maildir. Does Dovecot support his? Also, if anyone on the list has experience running a BlackBerry against Dovecot, are you currently getting instant (or near instant) notifications? If so what service are you using? T-Mobile? I am considering upgrading and using Dovecot but BlackBerry support has become critical. Thanks in advance. Chris

[Dovecot] Moving email from a folder to another using IMAP is very slow (sometimes)
by Stefano Scalise 26 Sep '07

26 Sep '07

Hi to all, I am using the new beta release 1.1. I am experiencing, after the upgrade to the 1.1beta some problems regarding the following scenario: I am conneted with Outlook to dovecot server using IMAP. I have many folders and I want to move an email from a folder to another using drag and drop. I see that when I move the email, the IMAP process goes to 90-95% for about 5 seconds and after, the mail is finally moved. I noticed that this operation sometimes (20% about) is again fast. There is no problem of overload of the server because this mail server, at the moment, manage just 1 email address. Before the upgrade to 1.1beta, this operation was very very fast. Is there a way to try to debug the IMAP process for understanding what is happening? Thank you for your help. Stefano.

Hi all, I'm using dovecot since a few months and it works great. But a few days ago some coworkers mentioned that they got errormessages in their Mailapp. I searched in the logfiles and found this: Sep 14 12:07:35 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(eckhard-ma-domain-com): fsync(/home/eckhard-ma-domain-com/mails/.INBOX.0002-Druckangebote von Druckereien.0002-schmerk zwei_E-Mailverkehr/tmp/1189764455.P15962Q0M486676.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error Sep 14 12:07:46 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(eckhard-ma-domain-com): fsync(/home/eckhard-ma-domain-com/mails/.INBOX.0002-Druckangebote von Druckereien.0002-schmerk zwei_E-Mailverkehr/tmp/1189764466.P15962Q1.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error Mailserv:~# cat /var/log/mail.log.* | grep fsync Sep 20 16:08:40 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(aicher-fre-domain-com): fsync(/home/aicher-fre-domain-com/mails/.Sent/tmp/1190297319.P5290Q0M979653.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error Sep 20 16:08:48 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(aicher-fre-domain-com): fsync(/home/aicher-fre-domain-com/mails/.Sent/tmp/1190297328.P5290Q1.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error Sep 20 16:18:24 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(aicher-fre-domain-com): fsync(/home/aicher-fre-domain-com/mails/.Sent/tmp/1190297904.P5290Q3.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error Sep 20 16:23:20 Mailserv dovecot: IMAP(aicher-fre-domain-com): fsync(/home/aicher-fre-domain-com/mails/.Sent/tmp/1190298200.P5290Q6.Mailserv) failed: Input/output error The /home/ dirs are at a simple RAID 1 System, ext2 filesystem. [Dovecot] deliver net_connect auth-master failed: Permission denied
by Rich Winkel 26 Sep '07

Ok, I've ALMOST got this working ... I can run deliver as a user, but when I try using it as the default delivery agent from sendmail, I get deliver(userid): net_connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: Permission denied Does deliver run as root, as the recipient's ID, sendmail's ID or sendmail's GID? (I'm running freebsd) Or am I totally clueless ?? [Dovecot] Password auth with Postfixadmin & MySQL
by James Dehnert 25 Sep '07

25 Sep '07

I am trying to get Postfix, Dovecot, Postfixadmin, and MySQP all working together. I'm using 1.0.5 atm. I've hit a point where I can't seem top get dovecot to auth to the MySQL password database It seems to see the user OK, but I can't seem to get a password match. MySQL has password stored as MD5, as per Postfixadmin. When I add plain-md5 to the auth mechanisms dovecot seems to use plain and fails. Hi list, I want to test performance of dovecot-1.0.5 on OpenBSD and FreeBSD. I want to implement a small pop3s/imaps server with ~3000 users. [Dovecot] user_global_uid and user_global_gid
by Stefano Scalise 25 Sep '07

25 Sep '07

Hi to all, I am using the new beta release 1.1. I see that parameters user_global_uid and user_global_gid are no more used in dovecot-ldap.conf. That means that, as I use LDAP as backend I am obliged to se t these two fileds in LDAP for each user even if they are always the same, as I use virtual domains. I see that I can set the in dovecot.conf the parameters mail_uid and mail_gid, but even if I set these parameters, when I do the query in LDAP (for retrieving other useful parameters) I have the error: userdb(<email address>) didn't return uid but... I don't want to take uid parameter from LDAP, I want to set it globally but I still want to do an LDAP query. Is there a way to do this in the new evrsion or I cannot do anymore this? Thank you, Stefano.
