[Dovecot] OS X Mail Administration

I'd like to request some feed back from any OS X Mail Admins on the list, please. Currently running 10.4.9 here using postfix / dovecot and I'm about to take the plunge from mbox to maildir. I just migrated from uw-imap to dovecot. As you're aware, users inbox's are customarily stored in /var/mail/% username and personal folders under /Users/%username/Library/Mail/IMAP. I'd appreciate if you'd share with me the directory structure that you use, or would use in my situation. All mail storage will be on the server so disk space is not an issue. I'm a bit confused whether or not to keep the inbox separate from the other imap structure as is the OS X default: should all mailboxes be under inbox, etc. Your input would be appreciated. dovecot 1.0.0; Free BSD 6.2; x86; UFS; no NFS IMAP not uses at all, POP3 only Problem description: POP3 client can't fetch second e-mail message from Maildir if first POP3 connect occurs before any message placed in Maildir. Details: 1. POP3-client first time tries to receive mail: May 14 16:17:36 host dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=<user(a)mydomain.ru>, method=PLAIN, rip=192.168.0.100, lip=192.168.0.3 May 14 16:17:36 host dovecot: POP3(user(a)mydomain.ru): Disconnected: Logged out top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/0, size=0 dovecot creates Maildir for that user: /var/mail/virtual/mydomain.ru/user/Maildir/ /cur /new /tmp dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log 2. Postfix MTA receives message for that user and places it at /var/mail/virtual/mydomain.ru/user/Maildir/new/1179145269.V43I3f5a4M116738.host.mydomain.local 3. [Dovecot] Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname

Some of our users use to login as firstname.lastname or firstname.lastname(a)charite.de instead of using the "correct" "flastname" login name. In order to get this behaviour a long-gone co-worker wrote an authdaemon.pl, which speaks the courier-authdaemon protocol. How can I emulate this behaviour with dovecot? Looks like in Cyrus, sorting by Received date is faster than sorting by the Sent header date because of the way they use the index and cache files... http://www.emaildiscussions.com/showpost.php?p=419246 Is this the case in Dovecot as well? Bill

[Dovecot] deleted Messages don't go into Trash Folder always

Hi all, most of the time deleted messages aren't moved into trash folder but go into nirwana. Sometimes it works correctly. But a restart does not guarantee this function. This effect exists with different imap clients. Can anybody help please. [Dovecot] Deliver sending bounces from 'MAILER-DAEMON@'

Hello, I'm having a problem with postfix and/or dovecots "deliver". I'm getting these lines in the mail log: | Apr 24 11:42:08 smtp2 postfix/qmgr[6176]: 05BAE3B67E: from=<>, size=3055, nrcpt=1 (queue active) | Apr 24 11:42:08 smtp2 postfix/qmgr[6176]: 05BAE3B67E: to=<MAILER-DAEMON@>, relay=none, delay=0.01, delays=0.01/0.01/0/0, dsn=5.1.3, status=bounced (bad address syntax) After some debugging, it seems that those lines in the log appear if I send mail to an account which is over quota. (I'm using the Maildir++ quota) This is from my dovecot.conf: | protocol lda { | postmaster_address = MAILER-DAEMON(a)my.domain.tld | mail_plugins = quota | auth_socket_path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master | hostname = my.mail.server | sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail | } It seems to me that dovecot is sending bounce messages from 'MAILER-DAEMON@' .. Does anyone know why this is happening, or how I can specify the address to be used? I'm using dovecot 1.0.0. -- Erland Nylend

Hi, i've installed dovecot on a new mailserverand try to set up some shared mailboxes. I have everiting up an runnig so far. I have 3 mboxes to be shared.
