[Dovecot] dovecot-lda and sendmail.

I'm trying to use dovecot-lda with sieve support using RC6 and sendmail. I followed the instructions at http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA but could not get them to work with sendmail. Could anybody help? Anybody have an example sendmail macro(s) and/or working sendmail config?

At startup I get the following warning: "Warning: Fixing permissions of /var/dovecot to be world-readable." Q: Is this something that I can/should fix, or can it be safely ignored? Thnx, J

[Dovecot] Duplicate e-mails

Hi, I've got Postfix/Dovecot config mail server, POP3/mbox, and a few users are complaining about duplicate e-mails. User connects with Outlook 2003 to Dovecot to download mail. If you check the mail logs for that message ID, only one copy is delivered to his mailbox. Also, verified that the client is set-up to NOT leave a copy of the message on the server. He downloads a copy of the e-mail once, and then 2 minutes later when his client reconnects to check for mail, he gets another copy of that e-mail. It's not a consistent problem. I check the dovecot logs, and see his client connecting and disconnecting, and always deleting the same number of e-mails it downloads. Is this a network issue or a config issue? The only other thing to note is that it's usually an e-mail sent to a group list that he's a member of. And I've set-up the owner-list setting in the aliases file. So I don't think that's the problem. If anyone can shed some light on this issue, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

[Dovecot] Something other than dotlock for uidlist locking?

If I read the code correctly, only dotlocks are supported for locking of dovecot-uidlist. And I don't see any settings in the config file for it. As it turns out, dotlocks are very slow on my system, due to their implementation via hardlinks. Would it be possible to support other locking mechanisms for locking of the uidlist file? -jdb

[Dovecot] Newbie Questration

Actually, it is a frustration: The client does not work, have tried Opera mail and Outlook, to receive mail. the client can send, but not receive. I know the mail is sitting in the user account Maildir ready to be picked up. Dovecot "compiles" fine. What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me, I know it is something simple. I have racked the net trying to find a solution, but no 2 mail setups are the same. My setup is the simplest I can make it. I have Postfix and Dovecot installed on Linux. All recent versions. Plain text authentication off shadow passwords and login user accounts. Mail is configured as Maildir, IMAP. As you can see below, I have turned logs on and there is nothing in them that shows an error. I am on a real static IP behind a firewall. I have opened the SMTP and IMAP ports. BTW, Postfix can send and receive local and outside. IMAP does not work to/fro outside or locally. I have also logged into Dovecot like so: telnet localhost imap 1 login test testing 2 select INBOX It lets me login and I have tried it with root, which it rejects and with another account which works. It selects the INBOX and I hit the return key multiple times to exit because I don't know what else to type. So, it looks like it is authenticating. Postfix is working fine, it can send and receive mail both locally and the outside world. It puts the messages in the Maildir directories as it is supposed to. Hi to all. I upgraded my dovecot from rc5 to rc6. Prior to upgrading, it was working seamlessly. But now I couldn't start dovecot. Here's what the log says: Aug 10 10:39:17 proxy dovecot: Dovecot v1.0.rc6 starting up Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: Login process died too early - shutting down Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29033 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29034 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29035 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29036 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29037 (login) killed with signal 11 Aug 10 10:39:18 proxy dovecot: child 29038 (login) killed with signal 11 I tinkered with the login_* configuration options but to no avail. The only configuration option that I removed is the login_max_logging_users, which is now deprecated in the new version.
