[Dovecot] separate pop and imap server keys?

Hi there, is there any way to get the imap and pop client to use separate keys? My Thunderbird client complains when I am popping from popss.domain.com that the certificate is owned by imapss.domain.com Any clues here? Cheers, Noah

[Dovecot] Problems with subfolders in Thunderbird

Dear All Server: dovecot-1.0.beta8 (compiled from source) centos 4.3 Client: thunderbird 1.0.8 on Fedora Core 4 on port 993 Using maildir Normally (with the current UW-IMAP) I can create a folder which may contain only messages or only folders. If I create a folder which will contain only folders, it is listed in thunderbird in light-grey italics. Subsequently I can create message folders within this folder. When doing the same thing using dovecot as the server, the same options are available, but any attempt to create a folder containing only folders is silently ignored and nothing happens (nothing is created anywhere on the server filesystem). Is this a known problem ? I do not want to use the setting which allows you to create folders which may contain both messages and folders. It`s something related to the #define IOLOOP_NOTIFY_DNOTIFY in config.h, but disbling it resulted in errors in compilation. [Dovecot] imap proxy and passwd-like passdb/userdb

Hi, I'm testing/using dovecot as imap proxy, passdb/userdb as passwd-like-file. It seems to function as expected (1). This setup is described in the wiki in AuthSpecials. But I also noticed in the documentation (ImapProxy / FeatLoginProxy pages) that the proxy feature only works with a sql passdb. Maybe I did something strange, but passwd-like-passdb does work..... So I have some questions: Is the documentation wrong? Is the documentation right? ;-) Are there reasons not to use dovecot this way (other than scalability / maintainability)? Are there bugs I've not yet seen? (am I the only one using dovecot this way?) thanks-in-advance, HenkJan 1) i'm proxying to a courier backend, had to modify dovecots capability_string, because the emailclient gets the capabilities from dovecot, while it uses the proxied server (=courier). Had some strange errors with append, as courier doesn't support Literal+, modifying dovecot so that it stopped advertising Literal+ solved the problem....

[Dovecot] Out of Quota Causing "BYE Too many invalid IMAP commands."

Doing some testing in Squirrelmail, with quotas, and basically opening a message, and saving it as a draft, over and over until I run at of quota. This is what I get when I try and save a message that is larger than the size left May 30 19:36:36 mafeking dovecot: IMAP(joeblogs): Disconnected: Too many invalid IMAP commands. and in SM ERROR: IMAP server closed the connection. Server responded:* BYE Too many invalid IMAP commands. I would expect something a little more user friendly in that situation. I haven't worked out how to debug the IMAP session in SM, or how to run an IMAP session with logging. I may get around to setting up debug in dovecot to see what happens. I'm running dovecot beta8. Any suggestions as to how to make it 'die' nicer? Thanks Tim -- Linux Counter user #273956

[Dovecot] Leave copy on server problem.

Hello, I am using Dovecot 0.99.14-r1 with mbox format. I have a problem with the option "Leave copy on server", the messages are duplicated. I tried many options but I can´t find the solution. The last test was: I modified in src/pop3/commands.c (function list_uids()) the folowing things: "... client_send_line(client, message == 0 ? "%u %u.%u" : "+OK %u %u.%u", mail->seq, client->uidvalidity, mail->uid); ..." by "... client_send_line(client, message == 0 ? "%u %08x%08x" : "+OK %u %08x%08x", mail->seq, mail->uid, client->uidvalidity); ..." then, I removed all index files so this were regenerated, I deleted popstate.dat, after with Mozilla Thunderbird I got the messages. popstate.dat was regenerated too, with the following information: this is the last lines: "... k 000000b14062ffdb 1148496134 k 000000b24062ffdb 1148496135 " After I send a new email and get messages, the last lines in popstate.dat was: "... k 000000b14062ffdb 1148496134 <-- no duplicated k 000000b34062ffdb 1148496827 <-- duplicated of k "000000b24062ffdb 1148496135" k 000000b44062ffdb 1148496828 <-- new " the new messaged arrived and the previous message was duplicated. Hi all... I'm running Dovecot 0.99.14 on Debian Sarge and I'm now trying to configure a mysql-based authentication. I made all the nessary setup accordinf to dovecot.conf and dovecot-mysql-conf but when i try to login I get the follwing error: pop3-login: Internal login failure: username(a)mydomain.tld [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] Any ideias on what may be happening? [Dovecot] Migration problems from Courier-Imap

Hi, I'm migrating from Courier-Imap to Dovecot-Imapd and I have some problems.. I don't want to change the IMAP folders, so I wish to have Dovecot's compatibility with Courier's IMAP folders. In the Dovecot configuration I configured this: namespace private { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } Dovecot correctly shows me the INBOX folder, but doesn't show me the subfolders anymore... [Dovecot] Effect of "login_process_per_connection = no"?

Using dovecot version v1.0.beta8 on FreeBSD 6.1_RELEASE with login_process_per_connection = no in the dovecot.conf file, I still get a new imap process for each IMAP login. That is, if a single user logs in five times, five imap processes are created. The difference appears to be that with a "yes" setting each user login causes a new copy of the imap-login processes to be forked, which then creates the imap process for the connection and exits. With a "no" setting, one of the existing imap-login processes creates the imap process directly (and does not exit). I am understanding the effect of this control setting correctly? Are there other actions or implications? Pete

[Dovecot] Security hole with mboxes

Unfortunately we have our first problem that could really be counted as security hole. Giving "1 LIST .. *" IMAP command allows the user to see all files and directories under the mbox root's parent directory, so potentially you could see other users' mailbox names. Nothing can be done with them though, so it's not possible to read or modify them. There are also some other less than wanted behaviors that can be done with "." and ".." directories, such as "DELETE .." command can give errors. Also with maildir if you store indexes in different directory than mails this command can be used to delete the index files. Anyway I don't see any of these as security issues. Hopefully most people have their mail directory under user's home directory, so this would only list the home directory's contents. But if you do have users' mails stored in eg. under /var/mail/%u/ directory, giving that command would list everything under /var/mail, assuming that the process has permissions to do that (that's why you should be using different UIDs for users if possible). This affects 1.0 beta and 1.0 stable releases, but not 0.99.x. Fix is in http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot-cvs/2006-May/005563.html I'll also release 1.0 beta8 now. Thanks for Bill Boebel for noticing "DELETE .." doing weird things with maildir.
