[Dovecot] Upgrading from 0.99 to 1.0alpha

Since FreeBSD has decided to drop Dovecot 0.99 and only provide a port for 1.0alpha4, what are the considerations for upgrading from 0.99.14 to 1.0a4? I think it uses MTAto mbox how can I check this to confirm? If it's not a Dovecot issue is it an issue with Postfix? [Dovecot] Sorting messages by date

I've recovered a load of messages from a different mail server without it's index file (it was corrupted). I now have thousands of messages which display in Outlook Express (yes, you may puke at this), all as today's date. However when I read them in Pine, the date of each message is displayed correctly, but they're in no particular order whatsoever. There are several questions here, some of which aren't suitable for this list, but for completeness... 1. Does Dovecot store what it thinks is the date the message arrived, in it's index file? 2. Can I fake Dovecot into thinking the messages arrived on a different date by including something in the message headers, or changing the date/time stamp of each file (but I don't know how to do this)? 3. Pine correctly picks out a date from the message (although it doesn't sort by this order), and Outlook Express just displays everything as the date which it (or Dovecot) first saw the message. Does Outlook rely on Dovecot's sorting/date information or does it do it's own? Many thanks, Steve :)

Dear all, I have compilled and installed Dovecot from sources on Suse 10 using the instruction available on dovecot.org. Unfortunately the instructions to start Dovecot are to obtuse for me! How do I get Dovecot to start at boot up? Thanks in advance for your help, Sander.

[Dovecot] Can Dovecot work with an RDBMS for mail/attachment storage?

This may seem off the wall, but can dovecot be configured to support a connection to a database server and use the database server to store the e-mail message and its attachments? While you can use Postgres and MySQL for storing and authenticating users, there is a possibility to use an RDBMs to control the mail itself. Thoughts? -- Michael Segel Principal MSCC

Hi, i have a problem with dovecot and quotas, when a user has over-quota he can't access the mail account to download mails and solve the quota problem. I'm using debian sarge (stable) and quota v1 (vfsold), i have installed dovecot in debian way apt-get install dovecot dovecot-common dovecot-pop3d users only can access via pop3 to their mails. Hi FC3 and dovecot1.0 stable using mbox files under /var/spool/mail/username where username is the mbox file. I have 1 user who has a lock file username.lock Why does this happen and how do i remove the lock so the mails held in the queue get delivered to the mbox Mark

[Dovecot] Retention Policy Feature(?)

I am currently using dovecot 0.99.14p1 on OpenBSD 3.8, mbox format, procmail+sendmail MTA. I subscribe to quite a few mailing lists and currently have procmail sorting mail into the proper mboxes. I was hoping there would be some sort of retention policy feature built in to dovecot. I want to delete mail more than X days old from X folders. I have combed the documentation, list archives, and google. Is this a feature? If so, where can I find more information on it. If this isn't a feature, is it in the works or is it left out to keep things "slim line"? Ted Strzalkowski
