[Dovecot] Permission Denied - cannot create inbox

I cant figure out permissions with Dovecot. I am new with this program and have tried setting the mail group to "mail" which is the group of my mailboxes which are located in /var/spool/mail. [Dovecot] Change/add mail header via IMAP

Hello. I create RoundCube plugin and I have question. I want add mail header and I see 2 way: 1) change file via filesystem (mailbox in maildir format); 2) change header via dovecot. I think 1) bad way. But I do not know dovecot support change head information or not? My by via IMAP commant? same programm (LDA?)? May be it impossible via dovecot?

Hello, I am using postfix and virtual accounts. So far, I have been able to get postfix to deliver to the correct location, but I don't know how to get dovecot to pick up the mail. My mails are at /srv/vmail/domain/user, below is my dovecot -n output and the relevant error. Can you help me please? Hello, I have been searching all day for help on an issue I am having after installing and just having begun to configure dovecot. Whenever I try to start the dovecot daemon I receive the following errors in the syslog: Apr 4 13:15:03 ***** dovecot: auth(default): Can't open configuration file /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf: Permission denied Apr 4 13:15:03 *****dovecot: dovecot: Fatal: Auth process died too early - shutting down Now, I have gone through the config file (see below) trying various settings for auth including running it as root and as vmail. I have tried a number of permutations for the permissions and ownership on the file specified above from 600 root -> 777 vmail and everything in between, yet always the same issue. If I rename the file and try to start dovecot it notices that the file is missing and gives an appropriate error. I cannot figure out how the permissions can be wrong on the file, I am starting to assume it is a problem elsewhere. [Dovecot] squirrelmail doesn't display share

Hello list, I have dovecot 2.0.11 installed on a client's server and Squirrelmail as the webmail client. I created the share below in dovecot.conf and it appears in Thunderbird and Outlook but not in Squirrelmail. What setting do I need to adjust in order for the share to appear in squirrelmail? My dovecot directors (v2.0.8) had 3 instances of these yesterday: imap-login: Panic: file ioloop.c: line 35 (io_add): assertion failed: (fd >= 0) master: Error: service(imap-login): child 17374 killed with signal 6 (core dumps disabled) imap-login: Panic: file ioloop.c: line 35 (io_add): assertion failed: (fd >= 0) master: Error: service(imap-login): child 1780 killed with signal 6 (core dumps disabled) imap-login: Panic: file ioloop.c: line 35 (io_add): assertion failed: (fd >= 0) master: Error: service(imap-login): child 10349 killed with signal 6 (core dumps disabled) dovecot "assertion failed" normally scares me quite a bit, but I don't think this can be very bad, since it's only on the directors and we're not doing lmtp here yet.. More of a FYI, and please let me know if I should enable something to get better debug data if/when it happens again. -jf

Is there a method for using master credentials for sieve only? We sometimes need to install/edit sieve script for some of our users. Currently, we just edit the files on the file server, but that doesn't appear the most sensible way for me

Hi, i'm in the process of evaluating dovecot. I have a rather big testing environment with four dovecot director frontend instances and four dovecot backend instances. Mailboxes are all in mdbox format and stored on nfs. Indexes are stored locally. dovecot nfs setup for high performance is used (mmap_disable = no, dotlock_use_excl = yes, mail_nfs_storage = yes, mail_nfs_index = no). The remaining problem is, if i disable a backend server and the backend server which took over the connection already has some old index files, this index files aren't updated. If there aren't any index files all is fine and the index files are created anew. I can solve this by regularly deleting old index files via a cronjob. But i'm not sure if i made a configuration mistake and dovecot somehow can detect old index files automatically and invalidate them? Thanks in advance Reinhard

Hello. I'm migrating from cyrus to dovecot and now after i converted mailboxes to Maildir. Some users already has imap folders with cyrillic chars. How could i autocreate folders with cyrillic chars? When i type something like: ... autocreate = utf8_chars autosubscribe = utf8_chars ... In logs i see that dovecot complains: Apr 05 16:21:43 imap(pavelkor): Debug: autocreate: Failed to create mailbox utf8_chars: Invalid mailbox name It is even possible to achieve?
