[Dovecot] Does Dovecot 2 need more ressources than 1 ?

Hello Switching for Dovecot 1 to 2, I noticed the machine respond slower to users requests , of course it works but response times are a bit longer. Does Dovecot 2 need more system ressources ? ( the machine is the same ) Thanks

[Dovecot] Segmentation fault with vpopmail auth

Hi. I am new in the list. First, excuse my english. I am not native speaker. A few hours ago I had a problem with process dovecot-auth and vpopmail. Versions I had using, working, were: vpopmail 5.4.28 dovecot-1.1.12 I tried to compile dovecot-1.2.16. Compilation was well but in execution system said: kernel: dovecot-auth[2842]: segfault at 645f20 ip 0000000000645f20 sp 00007fff69bd3708 error 15 in dovecot-auth[645000+1000] and so. Then, I tried to recompile dovecot-1.1.12 (original version I had working) but system said the same. After investigation, I saw I had mixed of vpopmail versions. Problem was I had /home/vpopmail/lib/libvpopmail.so in my system. When this file is present, compilation of dovecot link dovocot-auth to dynamic library libvpopmail.so, but it is not necessary since I had my system working using vpopmail without this .so. What I recommend is to compile a fresh vpopmail. Now I am using vpopmail-5.4.32 (at now, stable version) and dovecot-1.2.16. First, compile vpopmail and make sure you purge /home/vpopmail/lib/ of libvpopmail.so. Fresh installations of vpopmail, from tar.gz (not from SVN) _doesn't_ build libvpopmail.so, so make sure this file doesn't exist before you compile dovecot. For me, library dependencies are: mymachine:/usr/local/src/dovecot-1.2.16# ldd src/auth/dovecot-auth linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x00007fff63df5000) libpam.so.0 => /lib/libpam.so.0 (0x00007f9f925e1000) libcrypt.so.1 => /lib/libcrypt.so.1 (0x00007f9f923aa000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00007f9f921a5000) librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0x00007f9f91f9d000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00007f9f91c3c000) /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00007f9f927f7000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00007f9f91a1f000) I hope this helps. I wonder if somebody could help me. [Dovecot] Maildir

I noticed in Cyrus they seem to address maildir++ recognised by IMAP. I need to know does Dovecot recognise this format? Procmail has an ability to deliver mails to different folders which if unrecognised renders the whole process useless. Does Dovecot have a similar deliver method? Thanks. -Walt

[Dovecot] inotify and network/cluster filesystems

(dovecot v1.2.16) I've notice the log notices about increasing /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances on my servers, and started wondering if inotify works for network/cluster filesystems.. I found this: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=311194 which says that there's no mechanism for one node to tell another node that a directory changed for GPFS.. And I would assume the same applies for NFS and other network filesystems. (Yes I know, we should use director to make users sticky to one host -- but we're not yet ready for that for lmtp). So, are there any recommendations for what settings one should use for for filesystems where inotify woun't work ? Are there settings for disabling it (without recompiling)? And does mailbox_idle_check_interval happen in addition to inotify, so that clients will be notified even with a broken inotify ? -jf

Hello, I've upgraded from dovecot 1.2.x with sieve to dovecot 2.0.11 with sieve. I've noticed that folders are no more created at delivery time now. I've read that I have to do two things: lda_mailbox_autocreate = yes in dovecot.conf and fileinto :create in the sieve script.
