What syntax is needed to make this work? The 2.0 wiki recomendations don't work - I can see the inboxes or the folders but not both at once and there are lots of error messages about prefix clashes if I simply use the existing 2.0.20 conf file on 2.1.6 The layout I have is: Inboxes in mbox format - /var/spool/mail/%u Folders in maildir format - /var/spool/imap/%u/Maildir/ Control and index folders are under separate trees (/var/spool/control & /var/spool/indexes) There's also a mbox area mainly for moving oversized inboxes (/var/spool/imap/%u/mbox/ - prefixed as OLD) Presumably I'm not the only one who's had problems of this type? [Dovecot] Bug report - crash on group lookup

Hi I was doing some migration from a 1.2 installation to a 2.1. While testing my new installation dovecot crashed at two test-cases constantly with with a "Panic: Trying to allocate 0 bytes" message. Both times it was because I was using a wrong group (or none) in my config. The output I got by dovecot was not that helpful. I only figured it out, that it has something to do with the group by looking at the code, to figure out where the stacktrace I got could come from. Unfortunately, I don't remember one of the examples anymore that correctly (except that it was also a group configuration related issue). The other example, was that I was testing the quota warning scripts: Normal delivery worked fine, but as soon as dovecot should send a quota warning, after the mail got already delivered, I received said panic. For the MTA the mail delivery failed (-> bounce), although the LDA already delivered the mail, but failed in post processing (sending the quota warning). My fix was to add: unix_listener quota-warning { group = mail mode = 0660 } to the quota warning service. The LDA process has an own user per mailbox and the mail group. It looks to me as it would panic by looking up the user of the lda process, but that's pure guess. Attached is a debug output and the configuration that triggered the problem. I see two problems: 1. Don't panic while "looking" up a group 2. Give a meaningful error messages. Debian OS Dovecot upgraded from 1.2 to 2.0.18 RoundCubeMail Web Client which uses imap to make connection mysql-server-5.1 version = 5.1.61-0+squeeze1 RoundCubeMail = 0.7.2 As users delete mail in Roundcubemail the database timestamp not entered. The database is blank /var/log/dovecot.log shows no error Do you know where I can look to resolve this problem? If you need any further information/test feel free to ask. Hello everyone ! I'm trying to make a mail server with dovecot and postfix. Users will authenticate with Active Directory server. I've got an problem with Dovecot. BUT : To allow Dovecot to find users in my AD database, I must specify an OU in "base". If I only set "dc=domain,dc=lan" the research doesn't work. It seems that Dovecot is not capable to make a research without an OU specified in base. Am I wrong ? The root research works fine with postfix, samba+winbind, and I've an enterprise sized hardware firewall, and it works fine too. I'll be surprised if you tell me that Dovecot can't make a research without OU... That's why I'm posting here.. I've already post about this problem on the Iredmail forum, http://www.iredmail.org/forum/post15184.html#p15184 here , but no solution were found. Hi, I'm struggling with the proper quota displaying under roundcube webmail. I've tracked the problem to the different responses on GETQUOTAROOT command. Roundcube aquire quota usage using IMAP command: GETQUOTAROOT INBOX Example dump of the roundcube <-> dovecot communication: > GETQUOTAROOT inbox < QUOTAROOT "inbox" "User quota" < QUOTA "User quota" (STORAGE 1198415 10485760) < OK Getquotaroot completed. This is something Timo hacked up for me a few years ago and I realised should be on the list in case anyone else wants them. The following patches will limit maildir folders to 4000 messages on Dovecot 2.0.* and 2.1.* The Specfile patch is against the Cityfan Redhat EL5 SRPM but is likely to work on most build platforms Changing the message limit requires a recompile. It's brutal and ugly but it prevents users overloading FSes that can't cope with huge numbers of files (EG: GFS2)

Hey All, I'm developing a site on a VPS that comes stock with dovecot 1.2.17 and I'm trying to setup some functionality that is very specific to our business model. My question is this: How do I create (programatically) aliases for a forwarder? I have an address, email(a)domain.com that gets sent to a php script and I want users to be able to send to that script via any number of different names (could ultimately be 1000's). I'm thinking that I append/delete from the etc/aliases file and then run #newaliases So that email(a)domain.com will answer on dummy(a)domain.com or dothis(a)domain.com, once the email comes in, I can check the header, get who it was really sent to, do all my checks, perform the necessary action blah blah blah... and be able to do it all on one piece of code (my fantasy LOL). Am I on the right track here or is this simply not going to work? Thanks, Pete

Hello, we're trying to setup a platform with authenticated SMTP with exim and relying on dovecot as auth agent. We've read http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/EximAndDovecotSASL and so made the changes mentioned there, also setting auth_mechanisms = plain login in conf.d/10-auth.conf . With this setup, we're able to use AUTH LOGIN method on an SMTP session, but using AUTH PLAIN fails. [Dovecot] Released Pigeonhole v0.3.1 for Dovecot v2.1.6

Hello Dovecot users, It's been a few months since the last Pigeonhole release. The main reason is that I've introduced a few big new features. Although the new features themselves probably haven't seen much testing so far, I'm now pretty confident that existing configurations are not broken by these changes. The biggest change is the addition of dict support for Sieve script retrieval. It now possible to fetch Sieve scripts from an SQL database using the Dovecot dict facility. Read the INSTALL file and the referenced additional documentation for more information. Note that this feature currently is not usable with sieve_before/sieve_after and ManageSieve. Additionally, it is now possible to specify multiple sieve_before and sieve_after scripts. This for instance enables administrators to specify both global and user-specific scripts that are to be executed before and after the user's personal script. User-specific scripts configured in sieve_before and sieve_after can not be seen or changed through the ManageSieve protocol. Finally, as promised a while back, I've incorporated the vnd.dovecot.duplicate extension into the main Pigeonhole package. Using this Dovecot-specific extension it is possible to detect duplicate deliveries (such as for example caused by mailing list subscriptions). The detection is based on the message ID and uses the same database file (~/.dovecot.lda-dupes) as the vacation extension. Since the changes introduced in the release are rather large, I strongly advise you to experiment with it a bit before deployment. Changelog v0.3.1: * Added support for retrieving Sieve scripts from dict lookup. This means that Sieve scripts can now be downloaded from a database. Compiled script binaries are still put on disk somewhere if used. The INSTALL documentation is updated with information on this new feature and the (backwards-compatible) changes to the configuration. Note that his feature is currently not supported for sieve_before/sieve_after or script management through ManageSieve. + Incorporated the sieve_duplicate plugin into main Pigeonhole tree as a normal extension (vnd.dovecot.duplicate). This Dovecot-specific extension adds the ability to check for duplicate deliveries based on message ID. Specification can be found in: doc/rfc/spec-bosch-sieve-duplicate.txt + Added support for specifying multiple sieve_before and sieve_after paths. This adds much more flexibility to the multiscript configuration. A few years back I hacked up a perl chkpassldap.pl script to authenticate against ldap, and optionally authorize against groups and/or ldap attributes. This works with both qmail and Dovecot, and it also supports a somewhat generic method to alter the environment suitable to use for Dovecot as a prefetch userdb. Anyway, I have been running the script on a qmail-ldap and Dovecot 1.2 proxying cluster using the stock qmail-ldap attributes without any troubles, and figured I would finally release it in the thought someone might find it useful. http://fritz.potsdam.edu/projects/chkpassldap I tried to document the ins and outs of userdb configuration. If anyone finds anything that could use correction or clarification, please let me know. It has been awhile since I was in the middle of it all. Hi, in my dovecot setup the accounting database table shows wrong values which do not correspond with the actual disk space used. Hi, Due to some reasons I've to support both dovecot 1.2 and dovecot 2.x, and I just found that the -s parameter I used to autosubscribe to sieve folders doesn't exist anymore in dovecot 2.x The problem arises because (AFAIK) in postfix's master.cf you can only specify one configuration, and I used to have this: dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail argv=/usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -f ${sender} -d ${recipient} -s Is there any way to make the config compatible for both versions, achieving the autosubscribe and not crashing dovecot?

I have a friend who is preparing to set up a small Postfix/Dovecot mail system. There are only approximately 25 users. He wants to use Berkeley DB in a similar fashion to the way Postfix does. I told him I do not believe Dovecot supports that. I could not find any documentation relating to it. 1) Does Dovecot support Berkeley DB? 2) Are their any plans to incorporate that feature into Dovecot? It seems like it could potentially be a very useful feature. Hi everyone, I have a dovecot 2.1.6 setup with fts_lucene. The lucene indexes get created/updated fine when I do a manual search thru telnet. However, if I run a webapp that uses the php::imap_search function, the index never gets created/updated. I run indo the same problem with thunderbird and full-body search. But dovecot himself is not working properly. [Dovecot] Convert from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8?

The server I am running Dovecot on is still using locale = ISO-8859-1 but I am thinking it is time to convert to UTF-8... Can I just use convmv to convert all the files in the mailboxes to UTF-8 or is there anything else I need to do? Do I need to run iconv to convert the content also or does dovecot/MUA fix this by it self? I personally didn't mind a one-time notice from the dev's team that that are now offering paid commercial support. What if I WANTED it? I felt like it was a courtesy email from them to let me know that it's available. If those emails continue unsolicited, then it may start to feel like spam to me, but this did not. In general, I've actually been looking for ways to financially support good open source projects. I have worked with many & find that oftentimes, the ones with hood commercial support tend to be ones that have the manpower resources needed to quickly fix bugs, patch vulnerabilities, maintain a strong development schedule & give decent support through mailing lists & similar means. So when I received the email, immediately I thought: "Hmm. This may come in handy down the road, and would serve two purposes by giving me an easily justifiable means to support the project". Hi, right now my index directory is part of the users home directory: mail_home = /var/mail/%d/%n mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox I want the indexes to be stored in a different location: mail_home = /var/mail/%d/%n mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox:INDEX=/var/indexes/%d/%n If I just switch this setting and reload the configuration, no e-mails are shown to the user. After restoring the whole maildir I deleted all dovecot.index.*-files from that user and starting dovecot with the new index directory setting, I got the following error after connecting. [Dovecot] wrong search results with fts_solr

I am getting some very weird search results with fts_solr. 1) when I do a search for "testin" I get 0 results. 2) when I do a search for "testing" i get 44 results. The problem is that I am expecting only 1 result. I don't know the solr internal very much, but does anyone have any idea what is going on? [Dovecot] High level of pop3 popping causing server to become unresponsive

Hello all, We have put Dovecot 2.1.4 on several of our production servers (CentOS, on Dell R710, with 20GB memory, dual CPU Quad-core). We have a single instance of Dovecot running and currently have several instances of Popa3d. When there are significant amount of popping from 2 mailboxes that dovecot that is popping from (500+ msgs in the mailboxes), the popping of the messages causes the boxes to become unresponsive. We use another application that connects to the Dovecot, downloads 2-10 messages, then processes them, then sends the delete command to Dovecot. When this issue occurs we are unable to become Root, or login again if we close our ssh connection. This only occures when Dovecot is doing the popping. If we only run the older Popa3d, this doesn't occur. We believe it is caused by the way dovecot is authenticating. We are using auth_mechanisms = plain passdb drive = shadow usedb driver = passwd args = blocking=yes If anyone could suggest what could be causing the login issue, we would appreciate any incite to fix it! Hi everyone. I have a postfix working with sasl auth and dovecot, everything works fine. I just have 2 issues, the first is that if you add the IMAP mail accounts you can import all the mboxes on the /var/spool/mail/ which we don't want. The second issue is that there's no sent, trash and draft folder, so if we have imap we are not able to store those emails. Basically I would like to know how to fix both but the first one is the most urgent. I thought it was a postfix issue, but it seems not to be. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help. Hi, I'm attempting to implement Dovecot 2.1.3 built on a FreeBSD 8.2 64 bit system from ports. I had the servicve up and running on a local vbox demo which did a very simple Maildir format sytem which was situated in ~/Maildir. I would now like to expand the system and tie it to a Windows domain. What is the best way to go about doing this? Can Dovecot be directly tied in or do I need to tie the server in to the domain? Hi there, We're running dovecot 1.1 on one set of servers with a courier-imap-like namespace configuration: namespace private { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } We're now migrating customers onto a dovecot-2 platform, switching from Maildir to sdbox (using dsync mirror) & changing the namespace at the same time. New namespace configuration looks like (as taken from http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Namespaces) # This is for courier-imap namespace compatability namespace { type = private separator = / prefix = inbox = yes } namespace { type = private prefix = INBOX. separator = . inbox = no hidden = yes list = no alias_for = } For 99% of clients this works fine eg thunderbird on first login after migration notices the folder structure has changed & automagically redownloads folders & emails. However I have noticed some really strange messages in the logs which seems to be related to customers running outlook on macos. Hi all, I followed the instructions here: http://library.linode.com/email/postfix/dovecot-mysql-centos-5 to configure Postfix to work with MySQL and Dovecot before discovering PostfixAdmin (I was searching for a visual tool for creating users). Since I had created MySQL database already for virtual domains and user mailboxes (following the instructions I linked to earlier) and PostFix admin's db too does the same. Question #1: is there anyway to make all these work with together for the creationg and use of virtual users/mailboxes? or is there another visual tool for creating virtual users/mailboxes? I had also installed Roundcube following the instructions on Roundcube's page: http://trac.roundcube.net/wiki/Howto_Install The questions now is: . #2. Roundcube came with its own database, which also stores user information. Is there a way to ensure that the user information is picked from the database created to work with Postfix (and not Roundcube's)? Thanks.

Hi all, I've run into an issue we have with dovecot versions 2.0.12 through 2.0.14 on latest CentOS 6.2 when dealing with Maildirs located on NFS partitions. Although I saw Mr. Egbert's thread, his resolution does not work on our end. When dealing with users with over 500 messages in any of their Maildir folders, they occasionally receive an error from the server: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. Running readdir.c that Timo provided always returns errno == 0 on {cur,new} of all the directories reported in the logs. It does not occur consistently in production, but it does tend to occur to a fuzzy set of the same users on different partitions. We can replicate it every time in testing. The file count in these directories are all over the place, from less than a thousand to multiple thousands. However, it's hard to calculate what may have been in new prior to the clients processing/sorting that mail. It may have been more on the higher side than lower. The error tends to favor new over cur, but there are exceptions. The tests we have been trying: Create a new folder using alpine, save anywhere from 1000 to 10000 identical emails to the new folder. Change to that new folder, thus prompting the move from new to cur. The client receives the message and aborts the opening. Anywhere from 400-520 files are successfully moved each time. It takes numerous attempts to finally move all the files over--which I suspect some IMAP clients do, hence the inconsistent errors in production. We then create a brand new folder with the same amount of files and verify that the error is reproduceable--which it is. I'm leaning towards some sort of bug on the NFS client level, as Timo mentioned, but the odd thing is we were running this setup since early April and did not begin seeing these errors until early May--with user load being relatively consistent during that time. I would think the bug would have been evident before then. I'm also curious as to why dovecot is getting an ELOOP error code from it. Hello I am struggling with Dovecot 2 (coming from Dovecot 1.0.10) with mysql Authentification for Postfix. I get errors when using it: dovecot: auth: Fatal: Unknown database driver 'mysql' dovecot: master: Error: service(auth): command startup failed, throttling But a first thing would be to log the real errors, if there are any, so I set in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-logging.conf auth_verbose, auth_verbose_passwords, auth_debug, auth_debug_passwords, mail_debug, verbose_ssl all to yes and I set: debug_log_path = /var/log/dovecot-debug.log but there is no logfile after restarting dovecot. How can I enable a (verbous) own Logfile in Dovecot? frank

[Dovecot] plugin: Don't allow deleting the last instance of a mail

Before beginning to code it, does anyone have any related ideas that could be useful before starting it? Mainly what I'm intending to do is to write a plugin for mdbox storage that allows users to expunge mails in a specific namespace only if there are other instances for the mail. So basically: * Users can't accidentally delete mails (in shared mailboxes) * Users can still move mails within folders For v2.1 this can be implemented only to a specific storage backend, so at least for now only mdbox will support it. Maildir and sdbox support would also be possible by looking at hard link counts. Race conditions would allow deleting the mails, but that's unlikely to be an issue since the main point is to avoid accidental deletions that shouldn't be attempted in the first place anyway.

Based on http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Services#indexer-worker it seems like this is because the indexer-worker process is created as root but at the time of indexing the indexer-worker drops privs to the mail user. In /proc/<indexer-worker pid>/, io is mode 0400 and owned by root, so it makes sense that the mail user would be unable to read that file. [Dovecot] [Plugin dev] First-time-only cache lock failure

Hi This is a question related to plugin developement on Dovecot 2.1.4. I'm currently implementing a dovecot plugin that retrieves mails from a corporate server through an internal protocol. The plugin is very similar to the pop3c storage (lib-storage/index/pop3c). The plugin has to map original server UIDs to IMAP UIDs, using MAIL_CACHE_POP3_UIDL cache field the same way pop3c does. So, I've got a function similar to pop3c_sync_messages(), performing several mail_index_append() and mail_cache_add() calls. The problem is that on the first sync, when the index and cache files don't exist yet, there's a failure writing data in cache. The call to mail_index_sync_commit()\mail_cache_transaction_commit() fails because of mail_cache_transaction_lock(). The index and cache files are properly created, but the cache doesn't contain the MAIL_CACHE_POP3_UIDL values. It works properly on the second sync, the MAIL_CACHE_POP3_UIDL field being properly saved. Would you have some ideas on what could be wrong here? Thanks, John

I've had this working for over a month now with no problems. Then I suffered a power outage today, and now dovecot/auth dies as soon as I start dovecot. I've spent the past three hours searching google, but can't find even a hint at what's wrong with my server. As far as I can tell, this is the only thing that has failed after bringing the server back up when power was restored. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong? Hello, using dovecot 2.1 and per user mail quota via ldap is there a way to have a default quota which gets used, if the "quota" field in ldap is not set? I tried with: plugin { quota = maildir:User quota quota_rule = *:storage=3G } userdb { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf driver = ldap } and in dovecot-ldap.conf: user_attrs = dcMailQuota=quota_rule=*:storage=%$ but with this configuration the mail quota /allways/ gets loaded from ldap resulting in users without dcMailQuota attribute having no quota at all. Hi, I know I must have done some misconfiguration, but I do not know where to start searching for. All began when looking at my weekly cron message, where doveadm purge -A is run. That fails. So I tried doveadm quota -A as well, which several weeks ago was working perfectly. I guess that "some" user (but which?) tries to read the certs but is disallowed. Can somebody help me please to fix my permissions on that (private used) mail server? Is my "vmail" user required? [Dovecot] Log files

Hi, I just started using Dovecot and was trying to create separate logs instead of using syslog. Is there a way to get the file permission to be something other then root? I have tried the below configuration and it does not seem to change anything. The log process does change to a new user, but it still creates and writes as root. Whenever I test a new setting I delete all the current logs so they will have to be recreated to make sure it does not just keep the previous permissions. I also dont see much documentation on the service log. according to dovecot -a there are a good number of options, but I dont see any information about them. Yesterday Dovecot.log report: Warning: Fixed a duplicate: /opt/*/cur/<time>.M*.<domain>,S=*,W=*:2,S -> <time>.M*.<domain> Now Dovecot.log report: Error: FETCH [ ] for mailbox INBOX UID 10546 got too little data: 79850 vs 81231 Error: Maildir filename has wrong W value: /opt/DIR/DOMAIN/USER/cur/1281317869.M*.*,S=79569,W=81231:2,S~ Error: Corrupted index cache file /opt/DIR/DOMAIN/USER/dovecot.index.cache: Broken virtual size for mail UID 10546 A few days ago, we used a new machine for mail server (and we used maildir format with dovecot-1.2.0).In fact ,we used iRedmail on CentOS5. And last week, I copy some mail data from old machine to new one through SCP and CP command. It worked well. Yesterday, I copy the mail data from old machine to new one through RSYNC. I guess maybe the errors have a relationship with rsync, because the new machine open SELinux and the rsync data error. Although the files were copyed to /cur directory , it seemed to appear the same mail file. Now,I receive some BLANK mails by pop3 of OutLook2007 . There are not any Header and any Body( Totally BLANK). Outlook show they are 760B size. I am confusing for this problem. Please help me. Thank you.

Hi! Since upgrading to 2.1.6, setting namespaces via environment variables using a imap-postlogin-script *sometimes* doesn't work. Sometimes, the prefix of a namespace isn't set correctly, but is set to an empty string, which leads to the following error: namespace configuration error: Duplicate namespace prefix: "" However, the environment is set correctly, the error seems to occur when parsing the environment. See the attached log: The postlogin-script sets the environment variables attached as dovecot-postlogin-environment.txt. (dumped from postlogin script via env) However, the variable "NAMESPACE/S-GSD/PREFIX=Shared/GSD/" gets parsed as: plugin/namespace/s-gsd/prefix=Shared/GSD/ See the error message: Unknown userdb setting: plugin/namespace/s-gsd/prefix=Shared/GSD/ After restarting dovecot, the same configuration sometimes works correctly. I'd greatly appreciate your help! Unfortunately I have done the upgrade on a production system, so the issue is quite serious for me.. Will downgrading to 2.0 work? (Index-files, etc?) [Dovecot] dovecot wants to access my music directory

I am getting an SELinux error every time dovecot starts, because it is trying to access my music directory (/srv/music). I've read the doveadm-mount man page, and tried: doveadm mount add /srv/music ignore but it didn't make any difference. Now, I certainly didn't tell dovecot to access this directory, so how can I tell it *not* to do so. This is dovecot-2.1.6-2.fc17.x86_64 on Fedora 17 Beta, BTW. Hey all, we're in the process of checking out alternatives to our index storage. We're currently storing indexes on a NetApp Metrocluster which works fine, but is very expensive. We're planning a few different setups and doing some actual performance tests on them. Does anyone know some of the IO patterns of the indexes? For instance: - mostly random reads or linear reads/writes? - average size of reads and writes? - how many read/writes on average for a specific mailbox size? Anyone do any measurements of this kind? Alternatively, does anyone have any experience with other redundant storage options? Im thinking things like MooseFS, DRBD, etc? regards, Cor

Hi After rebooting my server connections to the mail system set up there failed - on closer inspection no dovecot process was running or got started. When running as root /usr/share/sbin/dovecot -c /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf got error on console /var/run/dovecot/auth-master could not be opened and found no /var/run/dovecot folder!. Is there better script to place in /etc/init.c/ to start dovecot (which will not fail silently?) Any idea what would remove the folder on ubuntu 10.10, running dovecot 2.1.5 and postfix 2.1.7? I've sorted out Postfix to correctly identify this and pass on to Dovecot for delivery but Dovecot doesn't seem to deliver where I want it to. Greetings, I have CentOS 6.2 running on our server with a VPS provider (Linode.com) I need to configure Postfix, dovecot, MySQL to work for virtual domains (multiple domains on our server). The only instructions for setting up Email with Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL my host provides is for the configuration on CentOS 5 which is here: http://library.linode.com/email/postfix/dovecot-mysql-centos-5 , I followed it for the installation/configuration of Email with Postfix, Dovecot and MySQL on our CentOS 6.2 Everything seemed to work fine until I got to the editing of the dovecot.conf file. The guide on the Linode Library provides instructions for Dovecot 1.x, while the newer versions of CentOS (CentOS 6) , apparently use Dovecot 2.x. The config file format has changed, so the one in the guide is no longer applicable, and as a result, I got a errors.. I would therefore appreciate it greatly if someone with a copy of the Dovecot 2.x dovecot.conf file configured to work with MySQL and Postfix (for handling mails for multiple domains) could share it with me. Hi I use dovecot 2.1.5 with postfix, amavis, spamassasin, mysql, virtual domains only. Dovecot being used for SASL authentication, and delivery. When I connect via telnet to port 25 or with smtp and try to do auth plain with mmencode connection string authentication works fine. I can send and recieve messages, and relay works as well. Trying to set up thunderbird to connect to this server I get problems - seems as if the password is resolved proper from the database (use postfixadmin), but then compares an upper case version of my password in the MD5-CRYPT() call to the password string obtained from the database. I do see the base64 encoded connection string in dovecot log though. Hi! I've found a bug in Content-Type parsing. It's old instance of dovecot 1.1. Maybe fixed in newer versions. Hello, I have been looking at enforcing quotas for users of my mail system (postfix and Dovecot v1.2). Have tried to follow a few tuts on the web but its not having the desired effect. Essentially I can still send and receive mail on an account that I believe has had its quota exceeded. In my main.cf, I have: userdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/mysql/dovecot-mysql.conf } passdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/mysql/dovecot-mysql.conf } and... protocol lda { mail_plugins = quota } protocol imap { mail_plugins = quota imap_quota } plugin { quota_exceeded_message = You have exceeded the maximum quota for your mailbox } the dovecot sql (mysql) file has the following query for pulling out user ids and quotas etc: user_query = SELECT maildir, mymailuser as uid, mymailgroup as gid,concat('maildir:storage=',quota) as quota FROM virtual_mailbox WHERE username = '%u' I have set one of my users to have a quota of 1 (so one byte I believe) so it should be over the limit pretty much immediately. Looking at the logs I can see that the system is picking up on the quota limit but doesn't seem to enforce it. Hello, the error is still present: May 8 19:47:18 opsys dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts): rip=82.113.119.140, lip=78.46.216.126 Whenever I start a session with openssl to STARTTTL (Server: mail.opsys.de) the handshake is successfull. Also I am able to login to my account via 1 login. In Thunderbird port 993 for SSL/TLS works correct, only STARTTLS on port 143 isn't working properly. The cert is Class 1 and signed by StartCom Ltd.. Dovecot 2.1.6, with lmtp_save_to_detail_mailbox=yes recipient_delimiter=+ messages addressed to "user+detail@domain" are always delivered to INBOX regardless if "detail" mailbox already exists or lda_mailbox_autocreate=yes. [Dovecot] dovecot and systemd

Hi all, dovecot supports systemd socket activation. Together with standard unit activation (like old sysv init script), there are two ways how to configure dovecot(only interface:port, not whole configuration). This can result in situation where those configurations does not say the same. Question is what should happen then? For example, lets have dovecot configured to listen for imap(s) and lets have systemd dovecot socket configured to listen for all protocols - pop3(s) and imap(s). When dovecot is configured to start on boot, systemd will start it and dovecot will listen on imap(s) ports. But when dovecot.socket is enabled, it'll listen on pop3(s) too and when new pop3 connection comes, it'll pass it to dovecot and dovecot will serve it. The question is: Should this happen? What exactly should happen when dovecot.conf does not match dovecot.socket configuration? Michal

Using brand new dovecot 2.1.5 I still have a problem with the inheritance of acls. Setting: - maildir with private INBOX and public folders. - users maildir directory (/home/mail/user/ahelmcke) contains dovecot-acl file - public folders root directory (/home/mail/Fax) contains dovecot-acl file When creating a subfolder of the public folder the dovecot-acl files gets copied to the subfolders directory as expected. When creating a subfolder of the users INBOX the dovecot-acl files does /not/ get copied to the subfolders directory. Hi, I built a mail server with qmail + vpopmail + dovecot , the qmail and vpopmail worked well, until the dovecot was installed. Client always get empty email, I have try some solutions from google, neither of then can solve the problem. Dovecot is installed but actually I just use auth module (for postfix authentication). In your dovecot.conf example, I don't see the "proxy" command ? Could you give me a few more details on the "proxy" command usage (ExtraFields/Proxy is not clear for me)? Dear All, I know there were many threads on this topic. I was searching the archive and the net also, but did not find a solution on my problem. I hope you can help me. I am migrating from an old server using courier to a new server with dovecot and i can not manage to have the same uids after the migration. After copying the message files from the old server to the new, and executing the script from the wiki page the messages are still re-downloaded by the mail clients. After telnet and logging in to the old server port 110, I got the following on the command *uidl*: 1 UID377-1278276092 2 UID387-1278276092 3 UID394-1278276092 4 UID498-1278276092 5 UID499-1278276092 6 UID564-1278276092 On the new server i set up the *pop3_uidl_format = UID%u-%v* because it seems for me that the old server is using the same uidl format. Either if i execute the /./courier-dovecot-migrate.pl --to-dovecot --recursive --convert /command or i don't the uidls on the new server won't be the same. Both the %u and %v numbers are differ. Please give me any hints how to continue the investigation to have a successful migration. Yes, that's possible. The IMAP/POP3 servers behind Dovecot director wouldn't even need to be Dovecots at all. Although you really want to use v2.1 director since it has a lot of fixes compared to v2.0. Hi, with dovecot-1.2.17 (yes i know it's old) i'm getting the folowing error after doing a system upgrade. May 7 22:04:26 mail dovecot: deliver(elon): Panic: file index-sync.c: line 25 (index_mailbox_set_recent_uid): assertion failed: (seq_range_exists(&ibox->recent_flags, uid)) May 7 22:04:27 mail kernel: pid 79989 (deliver), uid 4873: exited on signal 6 (core dumped) this only happens to one user and only with mail from one mailinglist (this one). Mails do get filtered by sieve. After some delivery attempts the mail finaly gets stored alright in the maildir. May 7 22:23:27 mail dovecot: deliver(elon): sieve: msgid=<assp.047487a390.4FA82AA5.60907 09(a)amfes.com>: stored mail into mailbox 'dovecot' May 7 22:23:27 mail postfix/local[82289]: 7DED511402: to=<elon(a)physik.tu-berlin.de>, orig_to=<l.messner(a)physik.tu-berlin.de>, relay=local, delay=1141, delays=1141/0.01/0/0.26, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to command: /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver) May 7 22:23:27 mail postfix/qmgr[1303]: 7DED511402: removed After that a new mail does the same dance (perhaps until the next one to this ML arrives). [Dovecot] Proxying for some users and having the rest local?

I'm migrating a load of mailboxes from cyrus to a new dovecot server. What I'd like to do is to switch the DNS to dovecot, and set things up so that all old imap mailboxes are accessed through the dovecot proxy. That way I can migrate them one at a time independent of DNS issues. I've got a load of users specified in mysql, and that configuration works well for local mailboxes. How do I configure things so that I can switch proxy access on and off? What's I've got so far is: password_query = SELECT user, domain, password, "masteruser" as master, "masterpass" as pass, proxy, "remoteimap.server" as host FROM mailboxes \ WHERE user = '%n' AND isMailbox AND active AND domain = '%d' I imagined that I could switch the proxy per user by setting proxy='n' or proxy=null for any users that want to be local, and proxy='y' for any users that I want to forward on to the original server. It doesn't appear to work that way though. Irrespective of the proxy value dovecot appears to try and proxy all users. What am I doing wrong? I can't work it out from the docs, and the source will take quite a bit of studying to get to the bottom of it all. Thanks :), Joe

Im sorry to ask another basic question, but Ive tried to find this answer for several hours now and it eludes me. [Dovecot] Shared namespace

I'm not sure what's triggered it - I THINK it has something to do with a force-resync, but not sure. I'm no longer viewing my full list of shared mailboxes. I used to have a number of users shown - they had all had their ACL's set individually and were shown in the list. "doveadm acl debug" shows they SHOULD be shown - at least I think so, as the output for the mailboxes that DO appear is identical for those that don't. Where should I look for breakage? -- Daniel

Hi, We're using dovecot to provide pop3 for a number of mailboxes. The setup is pretty simple: Each user / domain has a mailstore in /data/mailstore/<domain>/<user>/Maildir (backed by NFS). Passwords are in simple passwd-file format in the top level domain directory eg: # cat /data/mailstore/foo.com/.passwd user:{plain}password The passdb setup looks like this. passdb { args = username_format=%n /data/mailstore/%d/.passwd driver = passwd-file } The problem we're having is that when we want to remove a domain from the system and we go to rm -rf /data/mailstore/<domain>/ we are unable to because the auth process is still holding onto the file handles for the password file. Can somebody suggest an alternative pattern that I could use for storing password files? Ideally, we'd avoid one large file to prevent locking issues and would also keep the passwd-file setup since it's simple. It would be possible to have the password files in a separate dir, but over time I'm guessing that would lead to nfs turds? Easy to clean up I suppose, but maybe there's a simpler solution I'm missing? George

Hello, I have this problem: May 5 21:02:35 opsys dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts): rip=84.150.52.31, lip=78.46.216.126 Connecting via Thunderbird to STARTTLS won't work, but with a website from the same server it works for tls://opsys.de. So why is the port closed for external ip's? IPTABLES entry for imap is this: fail2ban-dovecot-pop3imap tcp -- anywhere anywhere multiport dports pop3,pop3s,imap2,imaps Key files are correct TLS is working from localhost.
