[Dovecot] Maildir format, "From " in the first line

Hello, Using Dovecot's deliver MDA, all mails are stored with the line "From <sender> <date>" appended. When forwarding these mails as attachements, the recipients get the source code. When Postfix delivers emails directly in the Maildirs, this first line is not appended, and there is no problem when forwarding the mails. Why is this line appended by deliver ? Is there a way to remove it ? Or is there something else I can do to avoid this forwarding problem. I'm using Dovecot 1.0.rc15 from Debian Etch. Forgive me, if this has been previously discussed. I researched as best I could. I couldn't find anyone mentioning it. Please treat me as a newbie. I've recently set up postfix, amavisd-new/SpamAssassin, and dovecot. All three utilize a user database in a MySQL db (on the same host). So far, so good. The problem: I wanted amavisd-new to deliver an e-mail above the "$sa_tag2_level_deflt" to the spam mailbox inside each user account. To accomplish this, I've instituted (best as I can tell) "plus addressing." The idea, if I have this correct, is that if a spam message is being sent to "<user>@<domain>.<tld>", amavisd-new will change the receiving address to "<user>+spam@<domain>.<tld>". The "+spam" will translate to the mailbox named "spam" within the structure of "<user>"'s mailbox. I think the important lines from the amavisd-new config are: @addr_extension_spam_maps = ('spam'); $recipient_delimiter = '+'; Long story short, (too late) the e-mails are being delivered, but to a completely new mailbox called "<user>+spam". For example, when I list the directory "<domain>.<tld>", I now see two mailboxes (as opposed to one): "<user>" and "<user>+spam". Is there something I need to configure within dovecot to have it recognize "plus addressing", or should it do so by default? I'm certain I've just missed something really simple. Hi, I'm testing a dovecot installation using thunderbird as imap client. The first user I configured has regolar folders: Drafts, Sent and Trash, and thunderbirs shows each one with its icon. The second user shows these folders with a standard icon, and I'm not able to save email in sent. I cann't understand why there is this difference, and how dovecot manage these folder. [Dovecot] MIME Decoding Problem

I am having a recurring problem with Dovecot 1.0.8 failing to MIME-decode certain messages. The client is Mulberry 4.0.8. The messages causing the problem seem to be MIME messages with "no parts". I.e. the message has some MIME encoding, but is just included as the message body. The kind of effect I will see is a proliferation of untranslated =xx codes, or in some cases an untranslated base64 block. I.e. I see the raw text from the message body with no MIME decoding at all. When this problem happens, if I close the folder, ditch the .imap directory on the server for this folder, and reopen the folder, the problem has gone away, I can view the message just fine. So, I don't believe it's a client problem. (And Mulberry is probably the most IMAP-knowledgeable client out there ...) We are setting up a Dovecot over a pair of NFS which mirrored with DRBD +Heartbeat, under Debian Etch AMD64 with Kernel 2.6.22-5. The problem was slow header downloading rate. We had tried to use postal to inject 500 emails which are under 5KB each, but when ever we start up Mail.app, Thunderbird or even OE6, the header download rate is terrible slow. Its look like a few sec for just 1 header download from the strace of the dovecot process, sometime, it maybe longer and this leading to the MUA hang. We had tried dove 1.0.rc15-2etch3, 1.1beta13... and the following configuration is for 1.1beta13. [Dovecot] Create IMAP folders on first login?

Hello list, I am currently playing around with a virtual domain/virtual user setup and thanks to the documentation on both the Dovecot and the Postfix websites things are going swimmingly (apart from an oddity I will post separately about). On trying things out with different newly created virtual users I wondered if it was possible for Dovecot to create certain IMAP folders on the first login of the user? So that folders such "Drafts", "Sent" and "Trash" are created automatically for each new user (upon login). Or is this a job for the mail client, or for the admin who creates the new users? TIA! Hi, sorry but I'm new to dovecot and this list and don't know how to proceed with my dovecot installation. I was trying to set up an Mailserver with Postfix, Dovecot and PostgreSQL. Everything was working fine till I wanted to integrate quota support. Hi, I've been working on configuring a new Postfix+Dovecot+Cyrus-SASL +Postgres server to perform multi-domain virtual hosting with non-unix accounts. I believe I have everything working correctly and have tested both the SASL portion and POP authentication through telnet and all works as expected, with one exception. When I authenticate using POP3: # telnet mail.host 110 Trying 192.168.XXX.XXX... Connected to mail.host. I'm not sure how I can configure Dovecot to use the vuser information. [Dovecot] Problem downloading mail with "large" attachment using Thunderbird....

We have a user that is using Thunderbird on Windows to read mail over IMAP and it works ok, except for downloading mail with "large" attachment.. When opening a mail with a attachment with a size of 14-15MB, TB downloads the attachment seemingly ok, but TB stops when reaching 99%. After TB has stopped, if the user tries to select another mail, TB just hangs and it has to be closed and started again to work again... I have checked the dovecot log, but I can't find anything there... We have also tried to create a log in TB but everything looks ok there also... Is there a known problem with TB and "large" attachment or does anyone know how to fix this, if possible? [Dovecot] Maildrop script to sieve

Hi, I'm working on a system that have about 350K e-mail users and 100k users that uses maildrop scripts to make filters on their delivery. So, changing scripts by hand can't be a choice. I "googled" so much and I wasn't able to find any script that converts maildrop scripts to sieve. Does anyone knows where can I find it? Hello, When I use pop3 and the option "leave messages on server" it marks all emails read. [Dovecot] Exim Dovecot Authentication Problem

Having a hard time figuring out something that is supposed to be easy. Tryiong to configure Dovecot so that it provides authentication to Exim for outgoing smtp. [Dovecot] Squirrel Mail (unknown date) in subject and zero size of messages shown

Hello, I'm having the following problems with a Squirrelmail and Dovecot. with option SERVER SIDE SORTING in Squirrel, only the first page with e-mails is shown in user's inbox, the mails in all the next pages are listed with subject: "(unknown date)" and size 0. The other similar problem, independent from that option (SERVER SIDE SORTING) is: when THREAD VIEW is chosen, we have the same behavior, normal first page and damaged all the others. with option SERVER SIDE SORTING = FASE, and UNTHREADED, everything is OK Has anyone seen this behavior, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance :) P.S. Squirrel's version is 1.4.7 and Dovecot is 1.0-stable

[Dovecot] Using deliver from Getmail?

Hello list, a quick question: can I use Dovecot's LDA "deliver" as a destination in Getmail? I.e.: [destination] type = MDA_external path = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver arguments = ("-d", "username",) Or is deliver not supposed to be called this way? What I'd like to do is use deliver in the same way I would have used procmail ages ago. Getmail retrieves the mail messages, filters them according to the filter sections set up and then puts them in the final destination as noted above. Of course I would like to have deliver honour my .dovecot.sieve sieve script. My first tries have not been very successful, all messages retrieved in this way are put in the top level INBOX, not being sieved. I also got this error message, but I am not sure how it is related: Jan 14 16:08:04 localhost deliver(username): net_connect(/usr/local/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: Permission denied Does my user need any special permissions to use the LDA? My interest in algorithms has also grown a bit recently. I'm thinking about majoring in CS / algorithmics (as well as biochemistry / possibly bioinformatics). This should only be good for Dovecot's performance in future. :) Pretty much the same things are in TODO for v1.1.rc1 as there were in beta13. But there are quite a lot of other changes: - Added proxy_maybe setting. If the returned IP/port/user points to ourself, log in normally. Otherwise proxy to the IP. - Added quota_exceeded_message setting for quota plugin. Add it to plugin {} for global, or protocol lda {} for deliver-only. - mysql: default_file and default_group settings (by Luca Longinotti) - Timeout handling rewritten using a priority queue (heap). Dovecot should now be able to handle lots of timeouts quite fast. - Using the new timeout changes several places in code have been changed from iterate-through-objects-in-one-timeout to timeout-per-object. This means that there are no longer timeouts triggering every couple of seconds for no reason. dovecot master and dovecot-auth processes haven't been changed yet. - deliver without -d parameter: if $USER and $HOME exists, don't do getpwuid() lookup. - Maildir locking fix - Index file performance fixes - Don't allow RENAME box box/child. It breaks some clients (which do it themselves..) and there's really no reason to allow it. - Quota warnings were broken - Maildir quota didn't use limits from maildirsize if no quota rules were specified I'm also thinking about getting rid of the "time moved backwards" error and change it to a warning. First I'd just need to fix the timeout handling code to handle time jumps and then verify that all timestamp comparisons can handle it correctly. Also besides warning about "time moved backwards" it should warn about "time moved forwards a lot" where "lot" is probably something like a minute. That could cause problems with dotlocks just the same as time moving backwards.

[Dovecot] [Sieve] Sendmail problem

Hi All, it's my first post in this list. I'm running dovecot 1.0.rc15 on my Debian Etch box. It's working very well but I faced a problem with Vacation using Sieve. :-( In fact, after well configuring the system I dont't receive the vacation message, and in the log I found: deliver(my(a)address.test): "2008-01-19 12:05:32 "Info: cmusieve: Using sieve path: /home/path/to/my/homedir/.dovecot.sieve deliver(my(a)address.test): "2008-01-19 12:05:32 "Error: Sendmail process terminated abnormally, exit status 75 deliver(my(a)address.test): "2008-01-19 12:05:32 "Info: sieve runtim error: Vacation: Error sending mail. Any idea about the reason this happen and how to solve? Thank a lot for your help Roger

[Dovecot] Error with 1.1 Beta

I am running the latest version of the 1.1 beta and just got the following error: Jan 17 06:20:13 apple dovecot: IMAP(jeff): rename(/home/jeff/Maildir/.Sent Items/dovecot.index.cache.lock, /home/jeff/Maildir/.Sent Items/dovecot.index.cache) failed: No such file or directory Jan 17 06:20:13 apple dovecot: IMAP(jeff): file_dotlock_replace() failed with index cache file /home/jeff/Maildir/.Sent Items/dovecot.index.cache: No such file or directory Is it something I should be concerned about? I had just sent an e-mail about 30 seconds before that one which did not give the error. I will see if I get the error again when I send this one. Jeff
