[Dovecot] Problem to start Dovecot 2.0.9

Hello! I did run Dovecot 1.2 and now would like to run Dovecot 2.0.9 at my server. The server runs a Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64 GNU/Linux with OpenSuSE 11.4 RC2. [Dovecot] How do I use a username/password plain text file as authentication backend?

I only have a single user (with multiple mail addresses) and I don't want to expose local users (no pam or /etc/passwd). Using a SQL database seems like overkill to me. So why not just a plain text file? Well, I've read http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/Static and related wiki pages, but I just can't find a clear answer. I certainly don't want to allow "any user" or "any password". Dovecot 2.0.9. Any hints for me?

[Dovecot] mail from root rejected

I have dovecot mailserver running well. Everything is fine except that mails from root are rejected (some system processes are sending messages by mail using root as sender). In the logfile i get: Feb 25 10:05:51 Beethoven postfix/qmgr[5228]: 0C7A8652489: from=<root@mydomain>, size=893, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Feb 25 10:05:51 Beethoven postfix/smtp[5662]: 0C7A8652489: to=<hnat@mydomain>, relay=smtp.inode.at[62.99.194.14]:25, delay=0.08, delays=0.04/0/0.02/0.01, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host smtp.inode.at[62.99.194.14] said: 550-Verification failed for <root@mydomain> 550-Unrouteable address 550 Sender verify failed (in reply to MAIL FROM command)) What can i do to have these mails forwarded? [Dovecot] LDAP and GSSAPI problems

This is a continuation of a problem I have been having. Samba 4 has recently changed to require binds. I need LDAP to verify users exist. I am using Kerberos (GSSAPI) as the passdb. Samba can handle GSSAPI/Kerberos SASL binds. I have the following in my dovecot-ldap setup for userdb: dn = smtp/mailhost.example.org(a)EXAMPLE.ORG sasl_bind = yes sasl_mech = GSSAPI sasl_realm = EXAMPLE.ORG sasl_authz_id = smtp/mailhost.example.org(a)EXAMPLE.ORG Which gives me the following error. Debug: ldap(trever): user search: base=dc=example,dc=org scope=subtree filter=(&(objectClass=person)(|(mail=trever)(sAMAccountName=trever)(userPrincipalName=trever))) fields=userPrincipalName dovecot: auth: Error: LDAP: binding failed (dn smtp/mailhost.example.org(a)EXAMPLE.ORG) Local error, SASL(-1): generic failure: GSSAPI Error: Unspecified GSS failure. Minor code may provide more information (Credentials cache file '/tmp/krb5cc_97' not found) Additionally, I have "auth_krb5_keytab = /etc/dovecot/krb5.keytab" setup for the GSSAPI user login. The credential cache should be that file should it not? If not, how do I go about setting that up so that it will work. [Dovecot] Sendmail and Dovecot deliver (dovecot-lda)

Hi, I have a Centos 5 system with sendmail running as my MTA. Normally I note from sendmail logs that mails get delivered using the 'local' mailer. I have therefore entered the following into my sendmail.mc file, from an earlier post on this list: define(`LOCAL_MAILER_PATH',`/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver') define(`LOCAL_MAILER_FLAGS',`DFMPhfnu9') define(`LOCAL_MAILER_ARGS',`deliver -d $u') However, when sendmail tries to use deliver I just get this message: Feb 13 15:37:23 gate sendmail[1399]: p1DEWtc2021995: to=<user(a)example.org>, delay=00:04:28, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=local, pri=121665, dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: local mailer (/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver) exited with EX_TEMPFAIL I've tried to get better logging by putting the following in 15-lda.conf in /etc/dovecot/conf.d: protocol lda { postmaster_address = postmaster(a)example.org auth_socket_path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mail_plugins = sieve mail_location = maildir:~/.maildir log_path = /var/log/dovecot-deliver.log info_log_path = /var/log/dovecot-deliver.log } I find nothing gets written to the log file, even if I make it a world writable file. Does anyone have any ideas? [Dovecot] Running dovecot on embedded device?

Hi, I'm considering buying a QNAP TS-212 NAS and I wonder if this device is powerful enough to run dovecot too (there is a pre-built dovecot package available from QNAP)? The main goal would be that my mail is stored centralized on the NAS, where I can access it from multiple systems without ending up with mail scattered over each system (which is exactly what is happening now due to the fact that my isp offers only POP3). There will only be a few users (e.g. family members), and incomming mail will be fetched from the isp mailbox. The specs of the QNAP TS-212 are: * ARM Marvell Kirkwood 1.2GHz CPU * 256MB DDRII RAM Is this sufficient to run dovecot, and will the performance be acceptable? I'm not expecting something lightning fast, but something that is acceptable. Jef

Hi all! I have been reading http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Quota/Configuration over and over for the last two days, but something totally escapes my brain right now: How does user_attrs = homeDirectory=home,quotaBytes=quota_rule=*:bytes=%$ get the quota from LDAP into dovecot? What are the LDAP attributes used and what does %$ mean? It is not in the variable list at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Variables I am feeling very stupid and dense right now, as I am absolutely sure I am missing something very obvious and totally simple. Hi, We set up a new mail server and moved users' "cur,new and tmp" folders only into new mail server from old server.In other words we did not copy and paste dovecot.index,dovecot-uidlist,etc into new server from old server because they were created automatically.After bringing the new server up,users(microsoft office outlook) complained their imap folders are missing.I investigated and found below information; I can see those missing imap folders in old server under 'dovecot-uidlist' as follows; [root@mail ~]# vi /var/vmail/abc.com.au/kerrie/ .Deleted Items/ dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log dovecot.index.log.2 dovecot-uidlist .INBOX.Air &- Gas/ .INBOX.Amex/ .INBOX.Caltex Starcard/ .INBOX.Creditors NSW/ .INBOX.Creditors NSW.Statements and Invoices/ .INBOX.Creditors QLD/ .INBOX.Creditors QLD.Invoices and Statements/ .INBOX.Debtors/ .INBOX.Export/ .INBOX.Followmont Transport/ .INBOX.Gameco New Zealand/.Junk E-mail/ But in new server,'dovecot-uidlist' is not containing those folders.
