Hi, I want to set-up two dovecot imap servers, with active-active replicated maildirs. The goal is to have a hosted public server on Internet, and a private server on my LAN to speed-up local connections. So I compiled dovecot 2.0 beta 1 in order to use dsync utility... [Dovecot] Adding support for a new storage format - plugin?

Hi, I've spent a little bit of time looking at the dovecot source (from the unstable 2.0 development tree), and I think I'm starting to get it together... Background: I'm interested in dovecot to provide IMAP access to an existing database backed server store (http://www.openchange.org for more details). The goal is to provide parallel access using either IMAP or the exchange RPC protocol. If I understand this stuff: * I can potentially provide access to the store using a plugin. It looks like the virtual mailbox plugin is a potential example here. * I may need to also provide an authentication plugin (not sure whether I can just re-use the existing ldap backend - quite possibly a useful option in my scenario) * I probably can't use the existing SQL code, since it uses its own schema. * I may need to provide some locking to ensure things are always in a consistent state for both IMAP and exchange RPC. Comments? Suggestions? Brad

I need to listen on both 993 (for some stupid clients I have to support that can't do START TLS) and 80 (to get past L3/L4 firewalls). I'd like to do it in dovecot rather than use nc, ipfilter or whatever. -frank

[Dovecot] handling filename of compressed messages

i'm running dovecot 1.2.9 and, among other things, i have the zlib plugin enabled. A shell script runs once a day to compresses all not still compressed files on the users maildirs. so far so good, it works fine, there's no problem on that. what i think is not happening 100% correctly is the following: 1) user receives a message 2) BEFORE the compress routine runs, filename is: new/1263436052.V6814I43300b4M146002.correio.domain.com.br,S=238207 3) AFTER the compress routine, filename is now: new/1263436052.V6814I43300b4M146002.correio.domain.com.br,S=238207.gz 4) user check his mail .... and now the filename is cur/1263436052.V6814I43300b4M146002.correio.domain.com.br,S=238207.gz:2,S 5) user replies that mail .... and now the filename is cur/1263436052.V6814I43300b4M146002.correio.domain.com.br,S=238207.gz:2,RS i'm aware that dovecot doesnt need the '.gz' extension on the file to recognize that as a gzipped file. Even without the .gz extension, dovecot is correctly reading the file. the '.gz' is not even necessary on the filename and still dovecot can handle it fine. anyway, i would like to suggest dovecot to handle the filename to keep the .gz extension, if that exists. [Dovecot] shared namespace bug?

Hi, finally i got shared namespace up and running. But for example if user peter.griffin shares his inbox to another user, the LIST "" "*" output on telnet looks like: a02 LIST "" "*" * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "Trash" * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "INBOX" * LIST (\Noselect) "/" "shared/peter.griffi" * LIST (\HasChildren) "/" "shared/peter.griffin" * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "shared/peter.griffinINBOX" a02 OK List completed. To share the inbox I previously run as logged in user peter.griffin a02 SETACL inbox peter.griffin lwxrk If I look in thunderbird, i can see under "share" two folders: peter.griffi and peter.griffin. Have i made something wrong, or is this a bug? [Dovecot] uw-imap compatability hack?

Hi all Apologies if this question has already been asked before... I'm migrating from a uw-imap setup where the mail folders were in a subdir mail/ in the users' home directories. All of the clients are configured with 'IMAP server directory' set to mail/ (Thunderbird) and it would be difficult to change this on the clients (there are 1000s of them) I want to use maildir and I have converted the original mbox files in ~mail/ to maildir format. So in ~Maildir/ I now have: cur dovecot.index dovecot.index.cache dovecot.index.log dovecot-uidlist .Drafts new .Sent-Items .Spam subscriptions tmp .Trash if I remove the mail/ setting from 'IMAP server directory' in the client, then everything works as expected and all the folders are visible. With this setting in however, only the inbox is visible and attempts to click on another folder, say Trash result in the client error: Mailbox doesn't exist .mail.Trash I've tried various namespace configurations I found in the namespaces wiki example but none seem to work. What I would really like to happen is for dovecot to ignore this setting supplied by the client and not to prepend .mail onto the folders it is looking for. Is there a clever namespace that will do this for me, or some other setting or symlink trickery? Ultimately I want to support clients that might have both mail/ and nothing set in this box. Is there any way to tell dovecot to listen for imap/imaps requests on all interfaces on multiple separate ports? For example, can I do this: protocol imap { listen = *:10143 listen = *:143 ssl_listen = *:10993 ssl_listen = *:993 ... } Thanks! Rick
