[Dovecot] Dovecot dying when deliver is called

Hello, I run a debian etch server with the mail services configured like their: http://workaround.org/articles/ispmail-etch/ It worked during month but of the last upgrade it doesn't work anymore when postfix calls deliver. dovecot version is 1.0.rc15. I don't remember which was the previous version. There is no error accessing dovecot in any other way. [Dovecot] moving folders bug - rc4

I am fairly new to dovecot... I had a user who in outlook tried to move one of the folders into another folder but it crapped out. User tried to move "Djans*" folders into Koi folder. The subscription seems to show the folder move but the actual data is still under ".ClickEats.Clients.Djans" instead of ".ClickEats.Clients.Koi.Djans*. How do I fix this? [Dovecot] Automounted home dirs not working

I'm testing Dovecot as a possible replacement for UW. In my environment the home directories are automounted via NFS from a NetApp. In general this works fine, but Dovecot isn't picking up the automounted directories. It's amazing how some people are quick to ramble about someone else's administrative incompetence without taking time to read the situation. (One person even suggested hacking the dovecot startup script to run ntpdate -- useless as ntpd already occupies the ports). Fact is, ntpd can take unpredictable delay before the initial time-step. Delay that can't be controlled, and it would be unreasonable to delay starting mail services until it is guaranteed to complete. Then, dovecot dies, and admin (who is not always immediately available) has to start it manually anyway (especially as it is not clear what to do with possibly unsynced timestamps) -- only after the unnecessary downtime. So, the question is: why on earth can't we add a single line of code to dovecot to restart itself after terminating? Kind of reminds me of the "fsck_y_enable=YES" option in rc.conf. Without it, if fsck does not like someting during reboot, the server would just sit there in single-user prompt, waiting for (expensive) console operations. Best wishes Eugene

[Dovecot] Allow_nets + MySQL failing when using range notation

Hello all, I am testing my dovecot installation in order to restrict access via POP3 for IPs outside my network. I have read and understood the instructions in the wiki and I have reached a configuration that works ONLY when single IPs are listed in allow_nets but not when ranges in the notation x.x.x.x/y are listed. Some examples should be more explanatory. I am using 1.0.rc15 patched as for last week as distributed in Debian etch. First of all, everything related to this is stored in a MySQL database, here is my password query: password_query = SELECT u.password as password, t.allow_nets as allow_nets FROM users u, access_type t WHERE u.ID_access_type = t.ID_access and ( t.%Ls = 1 ) and u.mail = '%u' This one should validate all mail addresses when the protocol used is marked as 1 in table access_type and when the allow_nets value in this same table contains the IP used for the access request. The, if access_type looks like: ID_access pop3 imap allow_nets 3 0 1 10.34.128.0/23, 10.34.133.0/24, 192.168.0.0/24 users with ID_access=3 fail to login by either pop3 (normal, value is 0) or imap. Hello, i tried to implement a mixed structure of mbox for spams and spam backscatters and maildir for the rest at dovecot 1.0.13. I used the information at the dovecot wiki: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces (Multiple Mailbox Locations) But if i try this (complete config is attached with this part) namespace: type: private separator: / prefix: "#md/" location: maildir:/srv/imapd/user/%u/maildir inbox: yes hidden: yes namespace: type: private separator: / location: mbox:/srv/imapd/user/%u/Spam thunderbird can't open a maildir folder:-( The msg is " Mailbox doesn't exist: XXXX" If i use this version: namespace: type: private separator: / location: maildir:/srv/imapd/user/%u/maildir inbox: yes namespace: type: private separator: / prefix: "#mb/" location: mbox:/srv/imapd/user/%u/Spam hidden: yes Thunderbird can open maildir folder but no mbox folder.. I configured namespaces without hidden like a charme... with hidden i run against a wall :-( Other question... has anybody a script to delete messages older then XY days in a mbox file? Hello, i installed my Dovecot with authetification in MS AD throught WINBIND and PAM. Works fine. So I have virtual users with UID, GID from MS AD. I set maildir path as mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/mail/%n/ Then i want to make some vacation system. I install sieve and use dovecot LDA. In postfix main.cf I have mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver Setup of lda in dovecot.conf protocol lda { postmaster_address = postmaster(a)mail-server.cz log_path = /var/log/dovecot-deliver.log info_log_path = /var/log/dovecot-deliver.log mail_plugins = cmusieve } Sieve user-scripts doesn't work without this: plugin { sieve = /var/spool/mail/%n/.dovecot.sieve } With this settings, LDA and sieve works OK. I can use user-scrips to forward mail by subject or something like this. Vacation rules works too. But it isn't create .dovecot.lda-dupes in user home directory that contains e-mail addresses that was replied. So vacation is sent always. I have this error in dovecot-deliver.log deliver(mkoudelka): May 14 12:24:19 Error: open(/home/MALL/mkoudelka/.temp.cz-dc1-s-018.mall.cz.11302.7e2cc05a1e1df1a7) failed: No such file or directory I tried to override home directory by set this: userdb passwd { args = home=/var/spool/mail/%n } But there isnt't any change. Hello, I'm seeing some messages from dovecot in my logs such as: May 8 11:43:41 snowdrift dovecot: IMAP(username): Disconnected: BUG: Unknown internal error I did some searching, and discovered a similar report last month, to which there was a request for more information that didn't seem to get followed up, so I have collected this information too. Dovecot version: 1.0.10 (from Ubuntu hardy package, which includes some patches; details of the patches can be found here: http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/deb-maint/dovecot/trunk/debian/patc… ) OS: Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) CPU: x86 Filesystem: ext3 IMAP client: Thunderbird. What was happening with it is not too clear, unfortunately it only seems to occur for one user, and that's not me. [Dovecot] unix style mbox and vmain maildir on the same server

Hi, I'm new to dovecott. Using version 1.0.rc15. I have a mail server that has both the old style unix mbox in /var/mail/%u, and virtual mail maildir in /var/vmail/%d/%n. Debian Linux Etch stable. I'm trying to get dovecot to deliver to /var/mail/%u using mbox format, and to deliver to /var/vmail/%d/%n using maildir format. I can't get it do work. I can get it to access both directories, but not use the two formats.
