I need some help. I have compiled dovecot (1.0-rc15) with --with-mysql option, when I execute the binary with --build-options I get this: Build options: ioloop=poll notify=dnotify ipv6 openssl SQL drivers: Passdb: checkpassword passwd passwd-file shadow Userdb: checkpassword passwd prefetch passwd-file static In this case, when I execute dovecot I get this error: dovecot: Jan 03 03:48:47 Error: auth(default): Unknown userdb driver 'sql' (typo, or Dovecot was built without support for it? We are running Dovecot 1.0-rc15 on Solaris 10 and are starting to ramp up our user count and ran into a file descriptor limit: Jan 1 19:38:54 <hostname> dovecot: IMAP(username): Newly created index file is corrupted: /home/username/.imap/foldername/dovecot.index.tmp Jan 1 19:38:54 <hostname> dovecot: IMAP(username): file mail-index.c: line 1806 (mail_index_move_to_memory): assertion failed: (index->fd == -1) Jan 1 19:38:54 <hostname> dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files Jan 1 19:38:54 <hostname> dovecot: Temporary failure in creating login processes, slowing down for now We got around this by calling "ulimit -n 512" and restarting Dovecot. This got us further (upwards of 300 concurrent users), but we are now running into what appears to be a full listen queue (connections are not rejected, but rather slow in being established). What I would like to know is if anyone else out there runs with large numbers of concurrent IMAP sessions via Dovecot and has run into problems. If so, did you have to up your fd limit w/ulimit? Hi All, I have dovecot working wonderfully on a qmail/vpopmail, but I've noticed my 'lastauth' is never filled in.. If I use vpopmail's pop, and auth to that, then 'lastauth' is updated. Hi, I have just started using Dovecot (1.0.10) SASL behind my Postfix (2.3.3). Everything works fine, as long as I send the SMTP AUTH command manually. When using M$ Outlook (2000 and 2003) and Outlook Express 6, authentification always fails. Turning on the Dovecot auth debug on reveals the reason: Dovecot SASL expects, in accordance with the standards, the following format of the SMTP AUTH command (using the PLAIN auth mechanism): AUTH PLAIN base64_encode("username\0username\0password") whereas the M$ clients send as the second argument only base64_encode("username\0password"), which naturally leads to authentification failure. Postfix apparently does not play any role in this game, as it simply passes the received command arguments to dovecot. Before I start hacking the source myself, I just wanted to ask if somebody has a patch for this M$ shortcoming - as the damned M$ clients are very much spread, I would assume this should be the case... From its interface I can only see Sent, Trash and Drafts. Is this a folder naming problem, a configuration issue or what? How must I name those inboxes and/or reconfigure dovecot to have those folders accessible in squirrelmail? TIA, Marco

I have the problem that configure can't run the binaries, due to crosscompiling. How can you solve these issues with ./configure? checking whether size_t is signed... configure: error: cannot run test program while cross compiling See `config.log' for more details. [Dovecot] Correct naming scheme for dovecot / squirrelmail subfolders?

Hello, I am running dovecot 1.0-0_34.rc15 and squirrelmail 1.4.8-2 on a Centos 4 server. Right now all messages are delivered to maildir /var/mail/vhosts/virtual_mail_root/, which has its cur, tmp, new subdirectories. I need to (re) configure postfix, dovecot and squirrelmail so that email is filtered and dovecot serves different boxes to squirrelmail, that is when I log in in squirrelmail I see: Inbox work (5) friends (6) lists (35) Sent Trash Spam that is every subfolder listed under Inbox with the number of unread messages. Now, I do know how to filter incoming email in different folders with postfix. The part still missing, in spite of several online searches, is the correct _naming_ and nesting of all the new mailboxes. In other words, if now everything goes into /var/mail/vhosts/virtual_mail_root/ : 1) what is the currect _name_ to give to the future "work" inbox ?? /var/mail/vhosts/virtual_mail_root/work/ /var/mail/vhosts/virtual_mail_root/INBOX.work/ what else? 2) which parameters must be changed and how in dovecot and/or squirrelmail (or any IMAP client in my home PC) so that folders are recognized and displayed as I wish? [Dovecot] Dovecot + Outlook express + permission denied

Hello, I have an account (called awesome) that does not have access to some public shared folders. I can use this account from Mozilla Thunderbird, but I cannot use it from Outlook. I opened /var/log/maillog. When I try to list all folders, I get this in the log: Dec 28 09:57:38 designaproduct dovecot: IMAP(awesome): opendir(/var/mail/public) failed: Permission denied However, outlook displays three folders: Inbox, Public and Trash. It says "One or more problems occured downloading your list of folder from your account." That is fine, except that not all folders are listed. (There are others: "Contact", "Calendar" and "ShopzeusArchive".) Then I subscribe to "Inbox" and "Trash". I DO NOT subscribe to "Public", because the account has no access to "Public". Why outlook wants to open these folders? I only clicked on "Inbox", it should only open "Inbox", am I right? Outlook says "Could not select 'Inbox' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your folders list to synchronize with the IMAP server." But this is a lie. It tried to open many other folders, not just "INBOX". I think that my dovecot configuration is okay. I have different public and private folders. Some users can access all of them, others cannot. Using different groups of users, I can distribute permissions without problems. But I cannot make dovecot "hide" shared folders. Nor can I force all of my users to use Thunderbird.
