[Dovecot] Extra inbox problem

One of my users (who uses Outlook) has lost all her folders that were inside her INBOX. She collects her mail by IMAP. I have confirmed that she has no folders in her INBOX. However, if I use Pine, I can see a couple of extra folders, "INBOX." and "Junk Email." that I don't think should be there. There already folders by that name but without the dot on the end. If I look in "INBOX." I can see the folders she's missing and the folder that they contain etc. I backed up and moved the files listed under .maildir, and Dovecot recreated them, but it made no difference to the problem. I don't understand why those extra folders appear in Pine, but not Outlook. Kind regards, Steve

[Dovecot] rc15 dumped core

We have been running rc15 since Sunday experiencing no trouble, but today one user crashed. rc15 on Solaris-5.9, the server had app 6GB free memory at the time of the crash, app 70% idle running with an avg.load at 4 of 8 processors available. The USER's INBOX was quite smooth, app 13MB containing 320 messages. The core dump was accompanied with these log-entries: Nov 23 2006 12:27:00 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): Corrupted index cache file imapindex/USER/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index.cache: invalid field header size 12:28:23 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): mremap_anon(1164206080) failed: Not enough space 12:28:23 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): mremap_anon(8192) failed: Invalid argument 12:28:24 [local3.error] child 17510 (imap) killed with signal 10 12:28:25 [local3.info] imap-login: Login: user=<USER>, method=PLAIN, rip=000.177.00.21, pid=19178 We have been observing a few of the 'invalid field header size' messages while running rc15. But as this USER, others seem to recover after the message has been logged. The messages from 'mremap_anon' have never been seen before. Actually '1164206080' looks very much like a timestamp, differing 75223 seconds from the time of the crash ... spooky I will start running the supplied code for memory debugging on this user and I enclose a back trace from the crash. The interessting stuff from the back trace is probably that hdr (and so cache->hdr) is 0xffffffff so that hdr->continued_record_count gives no sense (Cannot access memory at address 0xb) but cache->index->map->records_count is 320 Still on this and another server running rc15 (Sol5.8), we have thousands of happy users beeing served very fast by Dovecot. hmk

Hi, ive come across what looks like a bug in how dovecot sorts the mail when sorting on subject. We noticed this on our current beta8 version, and I can also reproduce it in rc15. One of our customers has hundreds of emails with subjects like this: Subject: 20060823 Kanglaonline-NSCN(IM) cadres violating Tml truce: NSCN(K) Subject: 20060824 LSE - Shell jv denies 3.2 bln usd fraud claims by Nigerian parliament Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?20060824_Ibinda_-_Onze_militares_angolanos_mortos_em_comba?= Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?20060824_Gingaocultural=2C_VoA_-_Deputados_constatam_clima?= Some of the Subject lines are encoded, some arent. All the encoded Subject lines end up being sorted wrong. [Dovecot] Quota Display with Horde and LDAP

Hi All, I am using dovecot-1.0.rc15 wth LDAP authentication configured. My webmail is Horde/IMP. While logging in, Horde gives `Unable to retrieve quota' message, instead of the usage report. capability string is: OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SASL-IR SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MULTIAPPEND UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN NAMESPACE LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=PLAIN] Dovecot ready. There is no QUOTA shown as part of capability, whereas courier-imap used to show it. I have uncommented the quota = maildir line in dovecot.conf. What about adding some compatibility for pre-rev1 IMAP4 clients which are still around (e.g., CDE dtmail, even in Solaris 10)? Especially, the understanding of command FETCH message (... RFC822.HEADER.LINES (parameters)) instead of FETCH message (... BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (parameters)]) (with correspondingly changed replies) would be desirable and shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

i'm building dovecot-1.0.rc15 on osx. when i, ./configure --with-ssl=openssl --with-ssldir=/etc/ssl_certs --disable-static --enable-shared --disable-maintainer-mode --disable-ipv6 --with-mysql --with-sql-drivers=mysql --with-deliver --with-pop3d --with-storages=maildir,mbox --disable-debug it fails at, ... checking how to hardcode library paths into programs... immediate appending configuration tag "F77" to libtool ./configure: line 20184: AM_ICONV: command not found checking for strings.h... (cached) yes checking for stdint.h... (cached) yes ... checking whether va_lists can be copied by value... yes ./configure: line 26434: syntax error near unexpected token `SSL,' ./configure: line 26434: ` PKG_CHECK_MODULES(SSL, openssl)' i've checked the cvs co of the 1.0-branch, and the same problem exists. any help? thanks.

[Dovecot] quota question

I'm afraid I'm being a little confused by the whole quota setup with dovecot. I see references to quotas about, but I'm not certain how many of them apply to 1.0rc15. I currently have the conf setup as indicated on http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota So, in my setup, I'm using Postfix, Maildrop and Dovecot. Mailstore is on NFS. Dovecot is handling the pop3 and imap connects. There seems to be some trouble in the quotas because Courier counts quota one way and Dovecot in a different way. Quotas are stored on a per user basis in the MySQL DB. The trouble I'm getting is that very frequently the quota being reported is quite different from reality. This leads to erroneous over quota delivery errors. So what is necessary to make sure the quotas work as they are supposed to in my environment? Hi, Did dovecot ever implement quota's in MB's or has it always used quota's in KB's? I have RC15 using quota's in KB and beta8 somehow using quota's in MB's. Am I going mad? Regards Richard

Ok, I found my problem, I run a backend IMAP/POP3 Server (DoveCot) with a front end IMAP/POP3 Proxy Server (DoveCot). I found that the proxy server was not advertising the fact that it supported QUOTA's. Once I enabled mail_plugins with quota support for the 2 protocols it all worked. Is this correct for a proxy server config. [Dovecot] checking during authentification if imap or pop3 connection

Hello. I'd like to know if there is a way to differ between imap and pop3 during mysql-auth. I would need the possibility to allow some users imap and only allow pop3 to the rest.
