[Dovecot] Using NFS - which OS would you chose

Hi, I'm still looking at a large (under 100,000) user deployment of Dovecot, with a NetApp NFS server as the back-end storage. I've read a few remarks about needing the latest NFS patches from Trond Myklebust to prevent lock-ups. My management would be happiest with a vendor-supported distribution (and especially Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 or 10). We will be running on an x86 platform. Under these circumstances, which operating system/distribution would you choose? And why? Suse SLES9 OpenSuse Debian RedHat FreeBSD Solaris_x86 Nexenta (www.nexenta.org) Many thanks for your thoughts/war stories. Jonathan.

[Dovecot] Cache fields

Hi, We are using Dovecot with maildir, and the mail client requests flags, internaldate, and uid for all messages on folder open, which on average takes 3 seconds, but for large folders is much longer. It seems like I want mail_cache_fields to include "flags", but which date corresponds to internaldate? date.received? Is UID always cached for messages, or does it have to read through the directory to get them? [Dovecot] Date Received question

I migrated from Courier to Dovecot, and today I notice that all my "date received" fields in my client (apple mail) show as the approx date/time of the migration rather than when the emails were received from the smtp server. Is this expected behavior? I normally sort by received date rather than sent -- since I don't care when someone sends something as much as when i get it. But those fields are totally bogus now. .tim

I have recently written a (minimal) Tru64 Unix SIA password module for Dovecot as part of testing a Dovecot installation. Has anyone else written a Tru64 Unix SIA module? Is anyone else interested in such a module? If so, how might I/we go about getting this/such a module into the main Dovecot source? [Dovecot] dovecot starts and then exit

I've just installed dovecot on FreeBSD 6.1. Running MySQL 5.0 on another server. Postfix version 2.3.3 Dovecot starts then exits with no error messages. I've run it as a daemon and on the command line with -F option How do I run it in debug mode so I can figure out why it does not stay running. [Dovecot] Outlook "IMAP server closed connection"

Hi All, Dovecot 1.0rc2. Currently having a problem with Outlook clients popping up with the error; "Your IMAP server has closed the connection. This may occur if you have left the connection idle for to long" I initially though this would be the imap_client_workarounds = outlook-idle option, but this is currently set and always has been. I dont think this is a known issue that has been fixed with newer releases, as we have rc2 on another server that does not have this problem. Any help thankfully recieved. Regards, Mark

[Dovecot] Add virtual users to the Dovecot configuration

Dear Dovecot Mail List, I have used Dovecot for quite a while to service remote users on my SOHO network. A local not-for-profit asked about getting their own dedicated domain name for mail. I followed: http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_postfix_virtual_hosting to set up a virtual, but the article leaves out system accounts and I have not been able to access both system and virtual users at the same time. I have the following lines: default_mail_env = maildir:/var/spool/vmail/%d/%n/ which, when commented out, works for system users default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u which, when commented out, which works for virtual users If both are uncommented, only system users work. Wiki-ing and Googling, I learned that namespace could be applied to the problem. Here is the namespace from the configuration file. #namespace private { # Hierarchy separator to use. You should use the same separator for all # namespaces or some clients get confused. '/' is usually a good one. # The default however depends on the underlying mail storage format. #separator = # Prefix required to access this namespace. This needs to be different for # all namespaces. For example "Public/". #prefix = # Physical location of the mailbox. This is in same format as # default_mail_env, which is also the default for it. #location = # There can be only one INBOX, and this setting defines which namespace # has it. #inbox = yes # If namespace is hidden, it's not advertised to clients via NAMESPACE # extension or shown in LIST replies.
