[Dovecot] Compiling 1.0alpha5 on Mac OS X 10.4 Server

I am trying to compile the 1.0alpha5 on Mac OS X Server 10.4.3, and not having success. My configure flags are: ./configure --with-mysql We're thinking of migrating from courier. The configure processes okay, but I get this error a ways through the make: /usr/bin/ld: multiple definitions of symbol _sha1_result ../lib/liblib.a(sha1.o) definition of _sha1_result in section (__TEXT,__text) /usr/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.a(sha1.o) definition of _sha1_result in section (__TEXT,__text) collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[3]: *** [dovecot-auth] Error 1 make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 make: *** [all] Error 2 Has anyone seen this error compiling? [Dovecot] checkpassword authentication

Hi, does anyone already use the checkpassword authentication scheme? I have not found any description how I have to configure dovecot in order to work together with qmails checkpassword. Enabling passdb = checkpassword /bin/checkpassword in dovecot.conf starts /bin/checkpassword for every authentication request, but the result does not seem to matter for the authentication. Without enabling a userdb entry, dovecot claims not to be able to find out the uid, gid and home of the user, although checkpassword replies these values. Setting static values with "userdb = static uid=$fixed_mail_uid gid=$fixed_mail_gid home=/maildata/%d/%n" results in being every login successful, no matter if the checkpassword authentication is ok, or not. I'm using the latest dovecot nightly build from 22. Nov. 2005. - Florian

[Dovecot] inotify.h not found

Hi, dovecot (1.0.alpha5) won't compile with inotify support because inotify.h can't be found. I'm running Linux 2.6.15-rc5 with headers from 2.6.12 (like most vendors). I've noticed that beagle and other inotify-enabled applications ships with an inotify.h. Could this be scheduled for alpha6? :-)

One of the mbox files on my server causes dovecot to assert. I've caught the assert in gdb and have attached the backtrace. [Dovecot] "pipe() failed: Too many open files" - ??

[Dovecot] No "Ok Dovecot Ready " on fc3 with ssl on ports 993 and 995

hey friends, I am trying to secure my mail server on FC3.I have enabled TLS support in postfix(version postfix-2.1.5) and want to use ssl settings for dovecot( 0.99.13). Lines of ssl in /etc/dovecot.conf protocols = imaps pop3s imaps_listen = * pop3s_listen = * ssl_disable = no ssl_cert_file = /usr/share/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem ssl_key_file = /usr/share/ssl/private/dovecot.pem ssl_parameters_file = /var/run/dovecot/ssl-parameters.dat disable_plaintext_auth = yes If i do telnet localhost 993 or 995 I don't see any "Ok Dovecot Ready" message.If I enable pop3 and imap in dovecot.conf and then I telnet localhost 110 or 143 I can see "Ok Dovecot Ready" message. Any pointers what else I am missing for ssl in dovecot and I am also attaching the dovecot.conf file with this email. Thanks & Regards Ankush Grover

Hi, i never used dovecot so far, but i heard a couple good things about it .. for one the debian maintainer of the exim package recommended it :-) so i want to change our mailserver (currently using ipop3 and uw-imap) to dovecot ... now my boss seems to favour cyrus. i could use some good arguments for dovecot, also your experiences with it and with other mailservers so i can make a reasonable desicion and preset some good arguments :-) Florian

I'm trying to switch to imap from pop3, so I set up dovecot on my Slackware 10.2 mailserver. I'm very new to imap, so I figured my configuration was wrong. If our symptoms are the same, maybe our setup errors are as well. The problem... while Thunderbird and Outlook are OK, the Inbox doesn't show in Outlook Express. You can click on the Imap Folders button, select the Inbox, click on the "Go To" button and the Inbox will appear until you shut down Outlook Express. Next time you fire up OE, no Inbox. Other than that, it all works as expected. I haven't torture-tested the setup yet though, I wanted to set up one of each client and get the basics running before doing that. Are your symptoms similar?
