[Dovecot] Problem with mysql authentication

Hi, I'm trying to set up dovecot-stable (http://www.dovecot.org/nightly/stable/dovecot-stable-20051124.tar.gz) All seems to be prepared correctly, but... my dovecot can not access the mysql database :( Connection string goes like this (i tried changing the order of parameters, that's why password is the first in the line): connect = password=***** host=/var/lib/mysql/system/mysql.sock dbname=vmail user=vmail But - in dovecot log I see: dovecot: Nov 24 23:53:05 Error: auth(default): mysql: Connect failed to vmail: Access denied for user 'vmail'@'localhost' (using password: TAK) Same in mysql log: 051124 23:53:05 171 Connect Access denied for user 'vmail'@'localhost' (using password: TAK) All settings in connection string are 100% correct - I have pasted them from dovecot-sql.conf to command-line mysql client and it worked, I have logged in. My copy of dovecot has been compiled recently, so all libraries are correct. Mysql version is 5.0.15 - but I doubt it is the reason... Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! [Dovecot] Newbie question: shared folders means..?

Hi, The website says "Shared mailboxes aren't yet supported". Does that mean that one shouldn't have two mail clients (same username) accessing the same IMAP account simultaneously? Or that Dovecot doesn't support distinct users accessing the same 'shared' Maildir box? Cheers, Jeff

[Dovecot] Silly question...

I'm trying to build a new 1.0+ copy of dovecot. I'm trying to build it so I can use SSL. I tried the ./configure --with_ssl= option, did a make clean, then a make and a make install. Still get the same error saying that even though I set the SSL use flag, it was not compiled with SSL. Thoughts? TIA! -- Michael Segel Principal MSCC 312 952- 8175 [M]

Here's an assertion failure that just happened. Unfortunately, I don't have a core file so this may be useless... This is with CVS version from 2005-11-03. [Dovecot] What's the best way to do this?

Hi, Got a situation where I have a couple of mailing list subscriptions as well as system generated e-mails from my clients' computers sending me warning messages. (Along with my normal load of personal e-mail). Does it make sense to set up virtual mailboxes (maildirs) one for each mailing list or group? Then using an IMAP client to subscribed only to the lists that I *want* to read? My biggest problem is that I have a blackberry and I don't want to get interrupted for non-critical e-mail. [Dovecot] How to add the footer to multipart emails

I recently lerned that Mailman adds its footer to MIME multipart messages by putting the original message in the first part of a new multipart/mixed entity and the footer in the second part, with Content-Disposition: inline. It works well in Thunderbird at least, i.e. the footer is visible; the glitch is that the footer shows up as an attachment as well, as does my PGP/MIME signature. Would this be something for EoC to adopt? It would allow non-ASCII characters as well (but not in text/plain messages). -- Magnus Holmgren Linköping, Sweden

Hi Everyone, I found that I could "fix" the problem by moving all my messages from Maildir/cur/ to a temporary location and then try and load the inbox using Thunderbird which then saw no messages, and then moving them all back into Maildir/cur/ and then Thunderbird loaded them fine. I have had this funny business with messages_count to large happen twice tonight now. Both times after I deleted dovecot* in the Maildir/ folder. Time for a positive message. As a (very) part time administrator of a small network running on an ecclectic bunch of machines I'd like to thank the dovecot team for developing such an easy to use and faultlessly functional product. Having been forced into finally replacing my UW IMAP server, I'm glad to have hit on Dovecot after struggling with mailbox transfer issues with cyrus and almost tearing my hair out. On my Fedora4 server, Dovecot was running withing a minute and reading all my folders in five further minutes, thanks Guys, Will.
