[Dovecot] UID confusion
by Andrew Hutchings 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

Hi, 2 or 3 customers have reported that they are having problems downloading their mail via. POP3. I have attached the rawlogs of their transactions and the UID list at the time. Is this because I am using an incompatible UID format or is something else at fault? Deleting the UID list and indexes fixes the problem. I am using Test72. [Dovecot] getpeername() and SSL
by Andreas Goertz 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

Hi Timo, first of all: i'm using 0.99.14. You helped me to raw-log the client-IP using something like this in rawlog.c: if (net_getpeername(0, &ip, NULL) == 0) { str = t_strdup_printf("IP: %s\n", net_ip2addr(&ip)); write_full(log_out, str, strlen(str)); } Now i got the problem, that this doesn't work when the client is connected using SSL. After some testing i think, the problem is, that after calling net_getpeername() the ip-family is AF_UNIX, not AF_INET, so net_ip2addr() returns null, but i'm not sure ;-) And i have no clue, how to solve this and find out the ip... Do you have another hint for me? Thanks in advance. Regards, Andreas.

[Dovecot] Blank messages and problems starting Dovecot
by Lars Karset Grimsrud 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

When I use Evolution for viewing my e-mail and display full headers, no content is shown. The number of messages indicated in Evolution is however correct. Logging into webmail (Squirrelmail) doesn't work either, saying "Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost. 13 : Permission denied". I have verified that ~/Maildir/new actually contains valid e-mails. Does anyone have suggestions on how to debug this problem? A connection is established if I telnet. I use Fedora Core 4. Another problem I have, is changing log_path and info_log_path to something useful. If I change either to i.e. /tmp/dovecot.log, dovecot refuses to start (service dovcot restart) with noe error message. If it helps, my /etc/dovecot.conf is here: http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~grimsrud/info/dovecot.conf.txt -- Lars Karset Grimsrud <grimsrud(a)stud.ntnu.no>

[Dovecot] password scheme
by Nathalie Boulos 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

Hi, I have dovecot-0.99.11-1.FC3.4 running on fedora core 3, and authenticating with openLDAP on a remote server. When i try to authenticate, i get the error "Unknown password scheme SSHA". I read that earlier on this mailing list, SSHA was not suported by dovecot. Is it supported now? what should i do to make my password authentication work? The users in the openLDAP database have userPassword {SHA} already used by other services, so i cannot change them. Any suggestions? I'm using Dovecot 0.99.13 on a fedora core 3 server. I keep getting these errors from time to time. There user ends up retrieving no mail (but no error in their client, be it web mail or pop3 client) What usually fixes it is this procedure: Cp mbox file to mbox_ Remove original mbox Send a test message to recreate mbox. [Dovecot] possible bug with incoming mail
by Luke Ehresman 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

I've been using Dovecot for a couple months now and am very impressed. Thanks for a great package. However, I have noticed a problem that I haven't been able to solve. When a new message comes into my inbox, the last message that was received is marked as new as well as the new one. I originally thought this was a bug in my client (mutt) but I have verified that the same thing happens with Thunderbird, Sylpheed, mutt, and pine. My configuration is as follows: ------------------------------- using mbox: default_mail_env = mbox:/var/spool/vfolders/%d/%n:INBOX=/var/spool/vmail/%d/%n using imaps Linux version 2.6.11-hardened-r1 (root@gondor) (gcc version 3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, pie-8.7.7.1)) #2 Thu May 5 13:14:52 EDT 2005 Thanks for any help you can give, Luke

[Dovecot] Dovecot + MySQL no auth
by Dylan Baxter 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

I haven't been able to login to my mail server using MySQL authentication and I believe I've found the issue. My POP log says: dovecot: Jun 07 09:58:56 Error: auth(default): sql(dylan(a)domain.com,127.0.0.1): Password query must return a field named "password" dovecot: Jun 07 09:58:56 Info: pop3-login: Disconnected [127.0.0.1] The password field in MySQL is called "passwd". Am I to understand that there is no way around this? I must rename the field to "password"? My config files all check out. I'm pretty sure I'm at a road block here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, aren't there anough Dovecot users to warrant a forum and/or IRC channel? I cant seem to find either (but thank you for the mailing list!). Thanks all for any help! Dylan

[Dovecot] Restrictions on User Basis
by Net Cerebrum 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

Hi, I am running dovecot on Fedora Linux in our organization and use IMAP as well as POP3 protocols for mail retrieval. I want to impose the following user based restrictions: (a) I want to permit only selective users to access either POP3 or IMAP server or both. (b) The server can be accessed from LAN as well as WAN. However I want to allow only selective users to be able to access POP3 or IMAP server from the WAN side (or on the basis of IP addresses). What do I need to do to impose these restrictions ? Thanks,

[Dovecot] APPEND issue with Thunderbird
by Todd Burroughs 28 Jun '05

28 Jun '05

I'm getting a strange problem with APPEND and Thunderbird 0.8. This was working fine in the CVS version from June 8 and is not so fine as of June 20. It works fine using Pine. It appears that imap is hanging when trying to append to a folder. Right now, an imap process has the file open for about 1/2 hour. It wrote the headers out, but not the body. When Thunderbird disconnects from it, it closes the file, but does not finish writing the email. Here's the difference in the commands sent by Pine and Thunderbird from rawlogs. These are different accounts. (Thunderbird) (.in file) 2 append "Sent" (\Seen) {520+} Message-ID: <42BAC447.7050901(a)hostopia.com> (rest of headers and message follows) The .out file is empty --------------------------------------- (Pine) (.in file) 00000003 CAPABILITY 03000004 APPEND Sent {392} Date: Wed, 22 Jun 2005 19:35:42 -0400 (EDT) (rest of headers and message follows) 03000005 LOGOUT (.out file) * OK [RAWLOG TIMESTAMP] 2005-06-22 19:36:20 * CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MULTIAPPEND UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN NAMESPACE LOGIN-REFERRALS 00000003 OK Capability completed. + OK 03000004 OK Append completed. * BYE Logging out 03000005 OK Logout completed. ----------------------------------------- Todd
