All, our dovecot installation provides a bundle of intermedia CA certificates using the ssl_ca option. 2.3.0 does not supply the bundle, resulting in various clients either complaining about an unverifiable server cert, or quietly not connecting. The log has Jan 5 17:01:46 Bounce dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (no auth attempts in 0 secs): user=<>, rip=XXX, lip=YYY, TLS handshaking: SSL_accept() failed: error:14094416:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert certificate unknown: SSL alert number 46, session=<uKK/kAlia+GCUyU5> We fixed the issue by downgrading to 2.2.33.2. Automatically subscribe to the INBOX folder

Hello, I am using the ‘auto = subscribe’ feature in the mailbox configuration section in the usual fashion (as shown in conf.d/15-mailboxes.conf): namespace inbox { inbox = yes mailbox Drafts { special_use = \Drafts auto = subscribe } ... } When I connect to an account with the Thunderbird mail client, those mailboxes/folders get autocreated and autosubscribed. Good! INBOX, however, does not get subscribed to automatically. When I look at the account’s subscriptions in Thunderbird, all folders are subscribed, except INBOX. How can I enable autosubscribe for the INBOX folder (like the other folders)? Is there an option for this? This is in Dovecot 2.2.22. Cheers, David

Does anyone know if the use of LMTP (or even the dovecot LDA) still loses the x-original-to header that the postfix vda adds and that I rely heavily on (since I use a lot of aliases), and if it does, is there any solution to get the original recipient added back in before final delivery? Everything I'm reading says that LMTP is better, but I really do need this header (or one like it) to be there so I know who the original recipient was (for filtering and other purposes). SELinux policy to allow Dovecot to connect to Mysql

As I have noted in previous messages, I been getting the following on my new mailserver: Apr 7 10:17:27 z9m9z dovecot: dict: Error: mysql(localhost): Connect failed to database (postfix): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (13) - waiting for 25 seconds before retry They go away when I setenforce 0. It is not a timing issue as I earlier thought. So I googled dovecot mysql selinux and the only worthwhile hit was: http://zszsit.blogspot.com/2012/12/dovecot-mysql-selinux-issue-on-centos6.h… that provides a /etc/selinux/dovecot2mysql.te and other selinux stuff. Is there a simpler way like a setsbool option? With all the howtos on dovecot with mysql, it is interesting that none of them seem to have this problem. Maybe because they connect to mysql through TCP port 3306 which has ITS set of problems (like MariaDB defaults to not listening on TCP). thanks!

Limit IMAP/IMAPS listening IPs

Hello list. I am running dovecot v2.2.13 on debian 8.8; I tried to add a "address =" statement for only localhost and one private IP, but then I got a complaint from system: dovecot[20515]: Error: systemd listens on port 143, but it's not configured in Dovecot. Closing. What is the proper way to resolve this? TIA & Regards, Dudi

Hello, how is the future of the automatically built nightly debian packages of dovecot? Has that project been ceased? The current auto-built version is still 2.2.28 from April 28, though 2.2.29 (with a security patch) of dovecot is out now for a while. Regards Christoph

auth_policy in a non-authenticating proxy chain

Hi, I was looking into the new Authentication Policy feature: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/Policy I had kinda hoped that I would be able to enfore this in a proxy running in front of several backends. This proxy does not authenticate. It use "nopassword". But I realize that the "succes" reported in the final authpolicy req. (command=report) is not what is actaully happening on the IMAP protocol level, but rather the result of the passdb chain in the proxy. (I should probably have predicted this, it's kinda reasonable). However... since the proxy use "nopassword", ALL passdb lookups result in "success", so the proxy will never report an authentication failure to the authpolicy server. This, of course, forces me to do the authpolicy check on the backend with a shared state, but It would still have been nice to have the proxy being able to do the first "command=allow" req. and reject attemps already there even though the backend does "command=report". /Peter

Dear list, We are encountering troubles with dovecot using LDAP userdbs on Debian stretch (but if I’m reading valgrind correctly, we can reproduce this with vanilla dovecot master). Minimal reproducer below. While testing an upgrade to Debian stretch (dovecot-core=1:2.2.27-3+deb9u1), auth-worker has stopped working. We are using two LDAP user databases; one which is iterable, and one which is not (for reasons; I think this is not relevant; if it is, we’re happy to elaborate). The issue seems to be present in any LDAP userdb iteration handling, but it only seems to cause a crash in certain conditions which seem to be reproducibly caused by our setup for some reason. We’re seeing one of two errors. We have attached mail.log contents for the respective valgrind runs. This seems to affect at least 2.2.27 onwards. We can reproduce the crash with our production data 100% of the time. The valgrind error is present even with very minimal setups (see below). Unfortunately, I haven’t been able so far to create an LDAP database which produces the crash as reliable as our production database does (which we cannot share for obvious reasons). Minimal Reproducer of Valgrind error: - Install dovecot 2.2.27 from debian stretch, or compile from master. - Install valgrind - In conf.d/10-auth.conf, disable auth-system.conf.ext - In conf.d/10-auth.conf, enable auth-ldap.conf.ext - Set contents of dovecot-ldap.conf.ext to: hosts = localhost base = dc=nodomain - In conf.d/10-master.conf, in section "service auth-worker", set executable = /usr/bin/valgrind /usr/lib/dovecot/auth -w (path may differ on your system) - Install an LDAP server with a database for dc=nodomain; this is trivial to do with debian: Simply install slapd and systemctl start slapd. - Start dovecot - Run doveadm user '*' - You should find the error in the mail.log. I hope this is somehow useful to fix our crash issue. We’ll be happy to provide more information as needed. kind regards, Jonas

Status of SMTPUTF8?

I was wondering whether there is a roadmap for adding SMTPUTF8 support to Dovecot? My delivery pattern is Postfix -> Dovecot LMTP and it is choking on utf8 messages. I might be able to volunteer some of my time as a developer.
