[Dovecot] sessions accounting and monitoring

Hi, we would have some accounting/monitoring of pop and imap sessions in our dovecot servers, which are the 'best' and fair way to do it? using some post-login scripts, parsing the log file, using netstat ... I know in the 2.0 version exists the doveadm who, but only relates to imap sessions... some recommendations? thanks Xavier

[Dovecot] Thunderbird IMAP woes

Hi, I'm a new dovecot user. We've actually just migrated our email system from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot (2.0 rc5) cause we were choking on IO and resources, and dovecot's cache and indexing really seems to help, not to mention the awesome amount of options, tweaks, and extra features, so far, I'm lovin' it. However, we're having a few issues with Thunderbird and I wonder if anyone could help. I know it's probably not dovecot's fault (some issues we already had with Courier...) but maybe some tweaks or settings could help. So here it goes: We have about 40 users, with their own mailboxes. About half of them have access to a HUGE public folder with many many subfolders (think 60 GB of email in Maildir format), it's organized into divisions and clients and projects (and subprojects and whatnot). We have ACLs controlling the public folder's access (courier-acl file). It goes like this, for a typical user that has access to the public part: - Inbox - Drafts - Trash - Sent - Some important folter - Some other important folder + SHARED |-- Finances |--|-- PriceWaterhouseCooper |--|-- ErnestandYoung |--|--|-- First project |--|--|-- Second project |--|-- Deloitte |--|--|-- Some project |--|--|-- Super important project |-- Health Care |-- Automotive |-- IT |--|-- Microsoft |--|--|-- That Windows 8 project |--|-- IBM |--|--|-- Reviving OS/2 project |--|--|-- What's eComStation project |--|-- HP (not the actual structure, but a very close analogy to what we have here) So yeah, a public folder with lots of subfolders, sub-subfolders, sub-sub-sub-subfolders, sub-sub-sub-sub-subfolders... Now, the problem is that to a lesser extent, Thunderbird 2, and to a larger extent Thunderbird 3 is having serious issues when I go (want to go) deeper than two levels of nesting. Like, in the Subscribe dialog sometimes I see the third level subfolders, sometimes I dont. If is subscribe to a second-level folder, then create a subfolder in it, the other subfolders suddenly appear. It's all very random, unfortunatelly, then only way I can use the system right now is to uncheck 'Show subscribed folders only' in Account Settings, and even then, sometimes folders disappear or reappear that are highly nested. Other clients seem to work fine, but we like Thunderbird cause of the add-ons, for example. I've setup Apache 2.2.9 for SOGo 1.3.2 on Debian 5.0.5. I know that the developers of Debian 5.0.5 are sometimes making choices which are not handy. Which modules in Apache do I have to enable to make SOGo 1.3.2 working? That's what I understand from the error message here under. [Dovecot] Subscription to folders and subscription file

Hello, I'm using dovecot 1.0.7 and have a problem with subscription files. The documentation says that this file ("subscriptions" or ".subscriptions" in the root of the maildir, I've tried both) holds the informations about the subscribed folders. I've created such a file with these lines: Trash Sent Drafts INBOX.prova INBOX.prova4 And configured a client (Thunderbird) with INBOX.prova and INBOX.prova3 subscribed. So, I have 2 different configurations: one for the client and one for the server. Then, I turned off the first PC and configured with default options a second client in a second PC. I expected that - it subscribed with the entries in the subscriptions file or - it subscribed with a default option, that is All Folders or None But it subscribed exactly the entries subscribed by the first client in the first PC. So, since I grepped "prova3" on all the directory structure and I found nothing, I think that dovecot is saving these informations in a binary format somewhere. Is it right? And, if it is right, how can I configure it to use the "subscriptions" file (or any other text file) as said in the documentation? Maybe I have to upgrade dovecot to do this? thank you in advance Fabio Ferrari

Hi, next problem with outlook 2003 On the IMAP Server (dovecot.x86_64 1.0.7-7.el5) I created a certificate with "mkcert_dovecot.sh". Some entries as be written to "/etc/pki/dovecot/dovecot-openssl.cnf". plaintext paswords are disables. IMAP Serverport: 993 Server needs SSL Now the outlook 2003 clients meens "the server uses a security certificate, which could not be verified" I can only click on "yes" or "no" On the thunderbird clients, I can use "use this certificate temporary " OR "use this certificate permanent" thats going on with this §@#! outlook 2003 clients. many thank Richard

Hi all, is it possible to install/activate a "out of office" messages for each user in dovecot? I've read about the Sieve scripts, but can't find a howto to install it on your dovecot 1.0.7 installation. http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve ... With v1.1 it's possible to include other Sieve scripts in your script ... I know, its an old release, so don't treat me like a dog ;-). Upgrade to the newest version will be done at the next maintenance windows. many thanks Richard

[Dovecot] Outlook 2003 Client

Hi all, my dovecot IMAP Server (1.0.7-7.el5) is now up and running ;-) Now I want that all clients have to save there sent messages in the IMAP folder on the server. no problem with the thunderbird clients. BUT, I can't configure the office 2003 clients to save there send messages to the imap folder. Some people told me, that outlook 2003 isn't able to do that. The send messages folder have to be a "local" folder and not a folder on the IMAP server. I can't believe. The only way on outlook 2003 is to create a messages filter .... very strange .... many thanks Richard

[Dovecot] dot-containing foldernames \HasNoChildren bug ?

Hello, we experience problems with dovecot configuration using the listescape plugin to allow dots in foldernames. In some mail clients, dot-containing folders won't show any subfolders. This seems to be related to the fact that the \HasNoChildren flag is set on such folders even if subfolders do exits.
