Hi all. My clients have got problem accessing dovecot by "Windows live mail (Windows 7)" client. The problem is that users can't delete two or more folders one-by-one. There is no errors deleting first folder (new dir /storage/vol1/mail/domain/user/Maildir/..DOVECOT-TRASHED appeared and wasn't deleted). I am new to imap "Command Line" and trying to write a script doing the following on a dovecot imap server: - APPEND a message (e.g. to Drafts) - get the ID to reopen the message for reading In short: How do i get the ID back from the APPEND command or which command has to be invoked to get the uid of the newly added message? [Dovecot] mysql log entry

I'm sure this is a really newbie question, but I notice in /var/log/mail.log that there are between 3 and 15 of the following log entries every day for the last five days, which is far back as my logs go--what do they mean? Apr xx hh:mm:ss mail dovecot[109]: auth-worker(default): mysql: Connected to localhost (postfix) Is it dovecot connecting to mysql for password or user info? If so, wouldn't it be more frequent? I've got 20 users with some connecting from outside many times per day. Thanks, -Terry

Hi Paschal You do not understand what I want. I developed a plugin based on the zlib plugin, but want to port it to dovecot 2.0. There are some differences in the 2.0 plugin, which I did not quite understand how it works for me to readjust it in my plugin. As in the source code there are not many comments, I do not quite know what each function does, if they are all necessary in my adaptation. In developing the plugin in version 1.4, Timo helped me a lot. What I need to know is how the hooks on write emails do this, and what the differences in the read function, since the code is different from version 1.4 to 2.0.

Have a look at the attached dialog. It shows the folder "shared/a(a)db.org/Archive" not being SELECT-able until after it's been mentioned in a LIST response. This can't possibly be right, can it? Bob

[Dovecot] flags, keywords in a shared mailbox setup

Hello Timo, I'm trying to get a clear understanding of dovecot's (1.2.x) flags and keywords sharing possibilities or impossibilities in a shared-mailboxes setup. By definition, a shared mailbox is a mailbox from a personal namespace which has been made available to someone else who sees it in a shared namespace. There can be some combinatorics according to the fact that INDEX and CONTROL files location can either be user-dependent or user-independent and this in either the private or the shared namespace. Besides, it's not clear to me if the 'dovecot-shared' file is still relevant in 1.2x and shared-namespaces to store flags only in indexes. So what combination is to be avoided because it would break things ? More specifically : . is, in 1.2x, the method for having private flags of a shared mailbox still to have the 'dovecot-shared' file (in order to store flags in indexes) ? . how can shared keywords in a shared mailbox even work ? If they're shared (how ? by pointing CONTROL to the same user-independent location ?), keywords known by a client (user1) won't necessary be known or have the same meaning for another client (user2), will they ? [Note : isn't it the same event with no shared mailboxes but with one user using several clients ?] But, if they're private, they have to be stored outside the filename : how can we do that ? Apr 5 09:13:23 gauss.math.purdue.edu dovecot-auth[14359]: [ID 293258 user.error] libsldap: Status: 49 Mesg: openConnection: simple bind failed - Invalid credentials I would like to try and find out what user connection is causing this message. I have turned on most of the verbose logging but I cannot see anything in any logs that might give me the information. Can someone give me guidance on how I can track this down. [Dovecot] dovecot 1.2.11 + virtual plugin + deliver

Hello List and Timo, I configured the virtual mailboxes which are really nice. To create the virtual-folder, I made a postlogin-script as described in the wiki. However, as my mail is delivered by dovecot's deliver ... I'm getting errors for people not yet logged in... Namespace 'virtual.': virtual : Root mail directory doesn't exist: /var/vmail/domain.org/username/virtual I tried removing the virtual-plugin from the protocol lda-section; and putting the namespace only in the protocol imap-section; but then the error becomes Namespace 'virtual.': Unknown mail storage driver virtual After an IMAP login (thanks to the postlogin-script) the virtual folder is created. However, I would prefer that mails to existing users and new users works even before they logged-in (and before the postlogin-script creates the virtual folder). Any help? Greetings, -- Stef Simoens

[Dovecot] Per-user flags for shared folders

As I see in 2.0 there willn't be ability to control which flags should be shared, and which should be per-user. But may be there is some plans to implement settings to control that? It'll be great if you can write in dovecot-shared file which flags should be per-user. It's very usefull for group mailboxes, when each user should work with such mailbox like with their own. Now I can't add permission for delete on group mailbox for anybody, because if somebody delete a message, it dissapear for other users of group mailbox. So my group mailboxes look like a big scrapyard[?] I can compile from sources and add also \Deleted flag to private flags, but it's not an elegant solution[?] And my idea is easy to implement :) Only add here: 305 shared_path = t_strconcat(box->path, "/dovecot-shared", NULL); 306 if (stat(shared_path, &st) == 0) 307 box->private_flags_mask = MAIL_SEEN; in maildir-storage.c some code for reading a mask from dovecot-shared file.
