Timo, Thank you for an amazing imap/pop server. I'm using Dovecot 2.0 beta 4 and mbox storage, and have encountered a couple of errors worth reporting: ------ 1. When I delete a parent folder that contains sub folders, I get this error message pop up in Thunderbird 3.04: > "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: > [CANNOT] Mailbox GUIDs are not permanent without index files." But, the folders are deleted properly, and no error is logged on the server. [Dovecot] 2.0.beta4 "OK Still here" not flushed?

Hello, everybody! I've noticed that my installation of K-9 Mail on Android has been consuming a lot of battery power recently. I've been running it connecting to 2.0.beta3 for the past few weeks and just upgraded to 2.0.beta4 while debugging this issue. There is a conspicuous lack of "OK Still here" messages in my IDLE connections. The lack of these "OK Still here" messages means that the idling connections get dropped very frequently, which causes K-9 Mail to expend much more effort than just receiving the periodic "OK Still here" and going back to sleep. The "OK Still here" messages sometimes arrive, however, just before an untagged FETCH, however. I do not know anything about dovecot internals, but I suspected that the "OK Still here" messages were not being flushed, so I modified line 270 of src/imap/imap-client.c to be: if (1 || o_stream_get_buffer_used_size(client->output) >= which I am sure is the wrong solution, since it forces a flush for every output line and would be quite inefficient. However, with that modification, the "OK Still here" messages appear reliably. Hopefully, there is a way to specifically flush just the "OK Still here" messages appropriately. I'd be happy to test any real solutions to this issue. Sincerely, Dan.

[Dovecot] Dovecot 2.0b4 configuration issue, listen config option?

Hi, In my 1.2 setup I have pop3 running on ip x.x.x.2 and imap on x.x.x.7 In 2.0 how do I say listen x.x.x.2:110 x.x.x.7:143 so that pop3 is not listening on the .7 ip? I tried putting a listen = ip in the listener section but it complained. I cant figure it out and cant seem to find any 2.0 specific documentation, trying to search in the wiki directory of /usr/local/share/doc/dovecot/wiki but so far no help. I realize I can firewall that off but I dont want to rely on that. Is this no longer possible?

[Dovecot] Thunderbird subscription bug ?

Hello Timo, I'm having a hard time trying to understand why Thunderbird 3.0.3 doesn't allow me to subscribe to a shared mailbox which I can subscribe to via Kmail for instance. I'm running dovecot-1.2.11/Maildir. So TB doesn't seem to ask for what's behind #shared/doveimap/folder although the server tells him it has children... Hello Timo, I'm running dovecot-1.2.11/Maildir and plan to migrate to single UID mailboxes some day, but for now, I've got "system" users and I'm testing permissions handling in order to set up shared mailboxes. The private namespace mailboxes location is location = maildir:/courriel/boites/%u:CONTROL=/courriel/meta/%u:INDEX=/var/dovecot-test/indexes/%1u/%u I've . created a 'doveshared' unix group . added 'mail_access_groups = doveshared' . chmod/chgrp the maildir and control dirs like this : drwxrws--- 7 doveimap doveshared 4096 Mar 31 18:47 /courriel/boites/doveimap drwxrws--- 5 doveimap doveshared 4096 Mar 31 18:47 /courriel/meta/doveimap [which were empty] . added 'acl_shared_dict = file:/var/dovecot-test/dict/shared-mailboxes' with drwxrwxs-- 2 root doveshared 512 Mar 31 18:44 /var/dovecot-test/dict [which were empty] Everything gets created with the permission I was expecting, except : -rw------- 1 doveimap doveshared 8 Mar 31 18:47 /courriel/meta/doveimap/dovecot-uidvalidity -rw------- 1 doveimap doveshared 0 Mar 31 18:44 /courriel/meta/doveimap/dovecot-uidvalidity.4bb37be4 and -rw------- 1 doveimap doveshared 0 Mar 31 18:44 /var/dovecot-test/dict/shared-mailboxes I can't see the explanation in http://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Permissions and the 'dovecot-shared' file doesn't help (besides, my understanding is that in 1.2x, it's for backward compatibility reason). I'm getting a lot of entries like this in my log: Apr 16 10:10:18 postamt dovecot: auth(default): shadow(doxxxris,141.42.206.38): CRYPT(wrongpassword) != '$1$qSe71xxx$09MoMqNyll.wPLCdSaFuA0', try MD5-CRYPT scheme instead It seems that changing the password via SquirrelMail (poppasswd) breaks the authentication scheme somewhat. [Dovecot] Error in SimpleVirtualInstall

Hi, i still got a little Problem (Thunderbird cant copy my mail to "Gesendet") but besides that i can send and receive mail. ive used: http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/SimpleVirtualInstall there it says that /etc/dovecot/passwd should look like: test:{PLAIN}pass bill:{PLAIN}secret timo@example.com:{PLAIN}hello123 dave@example.com:{PLAIN}world234 joe@elsewhere.org:{PLAIN}whee jane@elsewhere.org:{PLAIN}mypass but the syntax used for test and bill didnt work here, i had to add the virtual domain to get it working. or else deliver wasnt able to recognize the user (unknown user). Can anybody please confirm this? Also i would like to suggest to explicitely say that protocol lda { } is needed even if it contains nothing. or better change the example so that it contains the postmaster address. but the one in the howto just contains .. dovecot probably wont even start with that example. this is dovecot 1.2.11 -- GRATIS für alle GMX-Mitglieder: Die maxdome Movie-FLAT! Hello, setting auth_cache_size to nonzero enables caching of authentication data. The cache hitrate may be logged by sending SIGUSR2 to dovecot/auth process. Is it possible that dovecot logs statistics on regular intervals ? [Dovecot] manipulating mails

Hi all, sorry for my inexperience. I am still learning. I searched for a while but found nothing useful. I am looking for the best way to manipulate headers, bodies, attachments, locations, folders and/or flags while using deliver and e.g. perl. In other words manipulating the whole mail in respect of the requirements of the LDA, MUA and User. I see two diffent ways. As i understand I can work via IMAP and pre-auth sessions, which keeps track of the index files from dovecot and handles complications with users already logged in. Can I use e.g. some perl imap module -> download the mail -> change it -> upload it again with all other parameters unchanged and no confusions on the user's side? This way I think its complex to rewrite the mail header/body/attachments as desired and keep everything else, eg times, flags, headers. the goal should be close to invisibility for a user. This maybe leads to open pre-authed sockets/ports and a lot of work. The other way would be to directly modify the file system. This keeps everything (i think), but changes mtime and needs some index file and MUA cache update. For performance reasons I would like to not use the index-automatism of dovecot but do it manualy at runtime of some script. How does the index update gets initialized from the outside? Same for the client cache. Is there some command available or is a IMAP login my workaround? This maybe leads to password problems or open pre-authed sockets/ports. Last question: Is it possible to add some received-tag to a mail-header when appending mails via imap to the mailbox? Can anyone turn my head in the desired direction? Thanks in advance Sven
