[Dovecot] no bookeeping using public folders

Using dovecot 1.0.10. In the config: namespace public { separator = / hidden = no prefix = Flock/ location = maildir:/home/baratin/PublicMaildir:CONTROL=~/Maildir/control/Flock:INDEX=/var/dovecot/index/%u/Flock } This should be a public mail folder owned by "baratin", "read only" for all other users. Every user has his/her own control and index area related to this public folder. I have verified, they are owner and "group" of the respective control and index area. The problem, while using Thunderbird: The "read only" user can delete messages or mark then read. But after a new session, all the messages are still "new". Of course, only "baratin" is the owner. The problem, while using mutt and IMAP: mutt refuse to change any flag because the folder is "read only". Of course, this is correct. My question: Why is no bookkeeping maintained for "other" users, although every one has his/her own control and index structure ? Thanks a lot ! Claude

[Dovecot] Compile error with 1.1rc6

I'm trying a very basic ./configure; make of v1.1rc6 under Mac OS X 10.5.3. I have previously installed v1.1rc5 with no problems (although I was running OS X 10.5.2 at the time). Machine is an Intel based Mac Mini running on an Journaled HFS+ partition. [Dovecot] Upgrading from 1.0x to 1.1x

OK - about to jump to the new version of dovecot. Is there anything I need to change in the config files or things I should know? I'm using maildir format running under Fedora 8.

[Dovecot] Problem deleting folders with Thunderbird?

I am running Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 on Windows XP. When I try to delete one of the folders I get a dialog with the following "The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Target mailbox doesn't allow inferior mailboxes." I am running dovecot version 1.0.13-6.fc8 under Fedora 8. [Dovecot] dovecot's deliver and SELinux

Hello, I am the new maintainer of dovecot for Fedora and Red Hat and so I am trying to cleanup some old reported bugs. One of them is a problem when "deliver" writes of temporary files into /tmp are blocked by SELinux policy (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=424091) From the SELinux's point of view it is bad when system services try to write into /tmp (for detail see http://danwalsh.livejournal.com/11467.html) The solution looks simple - just to switch from /tmp to PKG_RUNDIR (line 472 in deliver.c for dovecot 1.0) for writing the temp files. But this raises two questions - will it really work and when yes, is it acceptable for the author? Thanks, Dan -- Fedora and Red Hat package maintainer

Thank you Tomasz! The quota per user worked fine now... The problem was that in dovecot.conf I had these lines: userdb static { args = uid=5000 gid=5000 home=/home/vmail/%d/%n allow_all_users=yes } And I just changed to: userdb sql { args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf } Now it's working... bye! What is this error message actually trying to tell me? May 28 13:47:24 yyy dovecot: POP3(aaa@bbb): Disconnected: Storage error during logout. top=0/0, retr=2/73195, del=0/435, size=13509375 This user is accessing his mailbox using both POP3 and IMAP, I don't know if that's relevant. [Dovecot] Trim trailing whitespace from username

Recently we changed Postfix to use Dovecot for our SASL authentication and we ran into trouble with some of our clients having extraneous spaces at the end of their usernames. The quick fix was to add a space to username_chars. The slightly longer fix was a pretty simple patch to Dovecot. I put the trimming in auth_request_fix_username. I didn't think it warranted a full strfuncs function. If there is a better way to do this I'm all ears. [Dovecot] Sieve/Vacation

hi, i'm using 1.1.rc5 but the same error occured with 1.0.13. the dovecot package was installed on centos 5 with rpm's from atrpms. exim 4.69. everything works fine except the vacation's from sieve. don't get me wrong, sieve works for everything, including mailforwards, or sorting in subfolders. but when i have a vacation, the script is compiled, but it produces the following output: sieve_execute_bytecode(/var/virtuser/test@<adomain>.sievec) failed (the "<adomain>" is replaced with the real domain of the user). i use virtual users in different domains. the sieve-scripts are generated by horde/ingo and stored via ftp in the "/var/virtuser" directory with the pattern "%u.sieve". the "sievec" files are up-to-date, because: a) i can delete the "sievec" files and they are regenerated b) i can "sieved" them and get an disassembled output with the vacation rule inside but when executing the script (when a mail arrives) the upper error is logged and no vacation is processed. the same error occured with 1.0.13 thank you </usc>
