[Dovecot] 1 week after full migration to 1.1v

Ehlo all, I've been working on a migration of about 240K users from one server with qmail, courier imap, maildrop and ldap to postfix, dovecot, lda +sieve. Before the migration the server and the storage were always on high load. Before migration: Storage IOPs = 4600 Read average = 2800 Write average = 1800 Storage CPU (Raid5) Crl0 = 50% Crl1 = 50% Server Load = 120 %user = 35 %system = 60 %iowait = 5 %idle = 0 After migration: Storage IOPs = 3000 Read average = 1200 Write average = 1800 Storage CPU (Raid5) Crl0 = 40% Crl1 = 40% Server Load = 25 %user = 10 %system = 27 %iowait = 40 %idle = 23 And now the server responds so quickly to any imap command. [Dovecot] Maildir and Invalid data in file

Hello, I'm using dovecot version 1.0.13 on reiserfs on hardware RAID-0, but I'm getting the following error in the logs every time one user tries to access his old mails in the .Sent directory: dovecot: 2008-06-23 15:09:46 Error: IMAP(marek.chajecki): Invalid data in file /var/mail/Maildir/marek.chajecki/.Sent/dovecot-uidlist As a result he fails to get access to the emails in this folder. I've googled a bit and read that deleting the uidlist makes dovecot recreate it, but after some time the same thing happens. It's a new hard drive, so I don't think this is a hard drive fault. Some additional info: this server is being used by about 200 users who get about 100 emails daily each one of them. [Dovecot] v1.0.13: maildirfolder not being created

Hi, I'm using version 1.0.13 of dovecot. I know it's somewhat dated, but that's the latest that Debian etch offers, and I would like to avoid compiling by myself if possible. dovecot is not creating the 'maildirfolder' in folders that are created via IMAP. Looking at the NEWS file, this was implemented in v1.0.rc7, so my version should have that working already. Is there anything else that needs to be done? [Dovecot] Testing using namespaces

Hey there, I'm interested in testing out using different storage formats for different folder hierarchies. I *think* this can be achieved using namespaces, but I'm not sure. For example, is it possible to, say, make all directories under INBOX.Archive be stored as mboxes, while everything else is stored as Maildirs? ~Kyle -- May your glass be ever full. Hi Timo, Thanks for the info. You are exactly right ,,after I done some researching. by default the Fedora and El distros setups up mail folders in mbox format. My Bad. I was always under the impression default was maildir.I have used sendmail>Procmail>dovecot>squirrelmail for my new setup same as the last email server setup.I found that sendmail seems to be much less CPU intensive than postfix,or I did not have the config correctly as postfix was easy to setup but really choked our email server when a secretary " bulk emailed" everyone in the school district. I have learned a lot about this in the last couple days. I thought I knew a little bit about this,but obviously I didn't know a thing. I am going to go with the default dovecot rpm that ships with EL5 1.0.1x as this does what all I need to have done. My main concern is the check_quota plugin available for Squirrelmail works,and with the dirsize quota directive put into dovecot.conf this is working very slick, and appears to be reporting very accurately.Now hopefully some teachers will not end up with 1GB mail folders!! and complaining the mail server is so slow when they check their email via Squirrelmail at home! Hi all. I'm trying to install Dovecot 1.1.rc13 on Cygwin. I've read the related posts, and I realize that maybe there's no solution at present; since I'm having a different error, though, I'm posting it here. Compilation succeeds. Starting dovecot from command line results in: Warning: fd limit 256 is lower than what Dovecot can use under full load (more than 640). Either grow the limit or change login_max_processes_count and max_mail_processes settings Warning: Last died with error (see error log for more information): Auth process died too early - shutting down Trying to run just dovecot-auth outputs: dovecot-auth: Fatal: MECHANISMS environment is unset Now, if I try to set an environment variable called MECHANISMS (say, export MECHANISMS=plain) I get a different error: dovecot-auth: Fatal: No passdbs specified in configuration file.
