[Dovecot] Custom mail directory with LDAP

For certain users, I have their mail boxes under /srv/mpop/<username>/Maildir. For the rest, I have their mail boxes under /srv/vmail/<username>/Maildir. mpop/ users are stored in LDAP, vmail/ users are local users so I discard the idea of set a fixed mail_location. In dovecot-ldap.conf I can't get the picture to set /srv/mpop/<username>/Maildir as mail. I'd tried user_attrs = /srv/mpop/uid/Maildir=mail but watching the logs I saw that a '/srv/mpop/uid/Maildir' is queried to the LDAP Server. Would be nice to have a user_global_mail equivalent to user_global_uid for LDAP user lookups. Regards, maykel

Hi, I'm working on "avelsieve" SqurrelMail plug-in to implement SIEVE "file" back end for dovecot. 1. My be someone my explain me, how to use client auth socket to authenticate against dovecot-auth unix socket. [Dovecot] Multiple Mailbox Location

Hi, I' m using dovecot v1.0.rc17 on a Centos 4.4 linux box with maildir format. Linux box mounts two LUNs of our Storage Area Network. LUN(a) has been mounted on /home with linux quota enable (small in size , but faster than LUN(b)) LUN(b) has been mounted on /archive with linux quota enable (big in size, but slower than LUN(a) ) I want to create two different private namespaces for our users. The first namespace is used for users' current mail (INBOX,Trash,Sent ....) and is located on faster disk (LUN(a)) The second namespace is used as mail archive. User drags his mail from first namespace to the folders located on the second namespace. This is my namespace definition in dovecot.conf default_mail_env = maildir:/%h/MailDir namespace private { separator = / prefix = inbox = yes hidden = yes } namespace private { separator = / prefix = "#Archive/" location = maildir:/archive/%u/MailDir #hidden = yes } This is the output to NAMESPACE command : 02 namespace * NAMESPACE (("#Archive/" "/")) NIL NIL We have a lot of types of client: Outlook >= 2000, Thunderbird, Eudora 7, Squirrellmail 1.4.8 with different behavior regarding namespace. These are my questions: 1) Is my namespace configuration right? Am I missing something? It is a bit different from that at http://wiki.dovecot.org/Namespaces 2) If I create a folder under the default namespace (i.e. .test under user MailDir) and add the folder name in namespace's subscription , Outlook and Eudora show me the folder and if I open the subscribe menu' they show me the two namespaces with their folders. With Thunderbird I can't see the created folder under default namespace and if I open the subscribe window I can see only the second namespace "#Archive" (That one not hidden). Is it a Thunderbird problem? Thank you

[Dovecot] Corrupt Transaction Log?

Got most of my install woes sorted out. Have Dovecot running on two servers, one for my standard imap deployment, and one for my webmail server. I'm getting a lot of messages like this when my palm Treo syncs. Anyone have any idea what I have set wrong? [Dovecot] dovecot-auth file descriptor usage

In dovecot-auth (rc15) we experienced problems when the file descriptors reached 256 (due to a Solaris fdopen() call described previously). The issue was that there was one file descriptor being used for every imap-login and pop3-login process (in our environment of SSL-only that means one for every active IMAP and POP connection). Mods were made (and appear in rc16) to close out the descriptor in question after using it during authentication (as I understand it). However, I am still seeing plenty of file descriptors left open in rc16 (one per session). [Dovecot] Dovecot cannot find passwd-file

Posted this once before, but am still having problems. I have dovecot 1.0 rc15 running with postfix 2.3 on a SLES 10 server. With local user and /etc/passwd /pam authentication my local user can retrieve mail. I am now adding a virtual domain and have postifx relaying correctly. I want to have dovecot pull passwd and userdb from two files. When setting passwd-file to /etc/dovecot/passwd the system states that the file does not exist but it does. It does not appear to be a permissions issue; is this a path issue relative to chroot? Would appreciate some input; I have found others with the same issues but have not seen a solution posted. [Dovecot] Dovecot deliver and procmail

Hi, I have site w. around 7000 users, most of which have some procmail rules (theres even .procmailrc in /etc/skel with rule to put spam into spam folder). Afaik dovecot's deliver doesnt understand procmail rules, so i'd like to ask if its possible to configure procmail so it saves mail using deliver, without modifying users .procmailrc Thanks for any pointers, Vaclav Hula

[Dovecot] Index corruption causes child process to die

My recent migration from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot has been marred by these errors: Oct 24 12:12:40 server dovecot: IMAP(juha): Fixed index file ~user/Maildir/.Geekzone/dovecot.index: first_recent_uid_lowwater 431 -> 430 Oct 24 12:12:40 server dovecot: IMAP(juha): Corrupted index file ~user/Maildir/.Geekzone/dovecot.index: Duplicate header extension keywords Oct 24 12:12:40 server dovecot: child 5786 (imap) killed with signal 11 They happen with Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 and I'm using Dovecot 1.0RC7 from the FreeBSD ports. I think the index corruption may be caused by Tbird's message filtering - I'm asking it to filter certain messages from INBOX to subfolders. When the error occurs, Tbird pops up an error message saying it can't connect to the mail server, but I don't lose any messages it seems. Instead, I get duplicates and even triplicates when I restart Tbird. Any work around for this? -- Juha http://www.geekzone.co.nz/juha

[Dovecot] segfault in RC15

Hi all, ive seen a few segfaults in RC15. It's hard for me to reproduce but I was able to get a core when it happened with one of our customers. RC15 FreeBSD 4.10 X86 NFS/NetApp It's squirrelmail/webmail client. Can't reproduce it, cant turn on dovecot.rawlog because I dont know in advance which customer will hit this. [Dovecot] imap over ssh won't work

Hi, Using version 1.0.rc15 I'm trying to let Evolution connect with IMAP over SSH. When run from the command line, this is what I get: ssh host dovecot --exec-mail imap * BAD [ALERT] imap binary must not be started from inetd, use imap-login instead. ssh host MAIL=/root/Maildir/ /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap * BAD [ALERT] imap binary must not be started from inetd, use imap-login instead. When I run the same commands directly on "host", I do get a PREAUTH prompt (Logged in as root) and when I look around I find exactly the same syntaxis. Does anybody have a clue why it doesn't work?
