[Dovecot] Blocked
by Jos Chrispijn 08 Dec '06

I have blocked some pop3 user sessions: Dec 8 00:03:38 xxxxxx pop3-login: Disconnected: user=<johndoe> Is there a way of sending a message to a user that constantly tries to establish a block pop3 session? Example: From: noreply(a)mysite.com Subject: Your POP3 session Message: Hello, Your POP3 session is blocked; please contact systemmanagement --

Example: I am blocking johndoe's pop3 session. In Postfix I forward all mail for johndoe to johndoe(a)another.email.adress.com So johndoe can still receive mail. > Also, what if it's a brute force bot or something trying to access a > random blocked account via POP3? [Dovecot] specifying INBOX with maildir for mail_location
by Post Master 08 Dec '06

08 Dec '06

I'd like to store all of my mail in maildir, but I want to store the inbox and indices on fast storage and everything else on deep storage. Does the following configuration value for mail_location accomplish this? mail_location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln:INBOX=/data/fast/%Ld/mail/%Ln:INDEX=/data/fast/%Ld/indices/%Ln ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If not, does the following configuration accomplish this with namespaces? mail_location = maildir:/data/fast/%Ld/mail/%Ln:INDEX=/data/fast/%Ld/indices/%Ln namespace private { separator = / inbox = yes hidden = yes prefix = location = } namespace private { separator = / hidden = yes prefix = ??? location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln/??? } ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Actually, I can't quite finish the namespace configuration. I'd like to set something like: prefix = * location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln But I suspect the '*' won't actually match everything, and even if it did, I suppose it would also match the inbox. I began with listing any and every typical folder in its own namespace like: namespace private { separator = / hidden = yes prefix = drafts location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln/drafts } namespace private { separator = / hidden = yes prefix = templates location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln/templates } namespace private { separator = / hidden = yes prefix = sent location = maildir:/data/deep/%Ld/mail/%Ln/sent } and so on, but that doesn't seem very elegant. Also, namespaces scare me for client compatibility. Am I missing something obvious?

[Dovecot] Extra inbox problem
by Stephen Allen 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

One of my users (who uses Outlook) has lost all her folders that were inside her INBOX. She collects her mail by IMAP. I have confirmed that she has no folders in her INBOX. However, if I use Pine, I can see a couple of extra folders, "INBOX." and "Junk Email." that I don't think should be there. There already folders by that name but without the dot on the end. If I look in "INBOX." I can see the folders she's missing and the folder that they contain etc. I backed up and moved the files listed under .maildir, and Dovecot recreated them, but it made no difference to the problem. I don't understand why those extra folders appear in Pine, but not Outlook. Kind regards, Steve

[Dovecot] rc15 dumped core
by Hans Morten Kind 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

We have been running rc15 since Sunday experiencing no trouble, but today one user crashed. rc15 on Solaris-5.9, the server had app 6GB free memory at the time of the crash, app 70% idle running with an avg.load at 4 of 8 processors available. The USER's INBOX was quite smooth, app 13MB containing 320 messages. The core dump was accompanied with these log-entries: Nov 23 2006 12:27:00 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): Corrupted index cache file imapindex/USER/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index.cache: invalid field header size 12:28:23 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): mremap_anon(1164206080) failed: Not enough space 12:28:23 [local3.error] IMAP(USER): mremap_anon(8192) failed: Invalid argument 12:28:24 [local3.error] child 17510 (imap) killed with signal 10 12:28:25 [local3.info] imap-login: Login: user=<USER>, method=PLAIN, rip=000.177.00.21, pid=19178 We have been observing a few of the 'invalid field header size' messages while running rc15. But as this USER, others seem to recover after the message has been logged. The messages from 'mremap_anon' have never been seen before. Actually '1164206080' looks very much like a timestamp, differing 75223 seconds from the time of the crash ... spooky I will start running the supplied code for memory debugging on this user and I enclose a back trace from the crash. The interessting stuff from the back trace is probably that hdr (and so cache->hdr) is 0xffffffff so that hdr->continued_record_count gives no sense (Cannot access memory at address 0xb) but cache->index->map->records_count is 320 Still on this and another server running rc15 (Sol5.8), we have thousands of happy users beeing served very fast by Dovecot. hmk

[Dovecot] rc15 sort bug
by Cor Bosman 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

Hi, ive come across what looks like a bug in how dovecot sorts the mail when sorting on subject. We noticed this on our current beta8 version, and I can also reproduce it in rc15. One of our customers has hundreds of emails with subjects like this: Subject: 20060823 Kanglaonline-NSCN(IM) cadres violating Tml truce: NSCN(K) Subject: 20060824 LSE - Shell jv denies 3.2 bln usd fraud claims by Nigerian parliament Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?20060824_Ibinda_-_Onze_militares_angolanos_mortos_em_comba?= Subject: =?iso-8859-1?Q?20060824_Gingaocultural=2C_VoA_-_Deputados_constatam_clima?= Some of the Subject lines are encoded, some arent. All the encoded Subject lines end up being sorted wrong. Here is a UID SORT output: * SORT 3 4 5 10 20 26 27 28 29 30 33 35 36 37 39 43 44 46 47 58 59 60 83 85 87 8 8 89 90 93 112 113 115 116 118 124 126 127 130 131 132 134 135 137 139 140 141 1 79 205 206 208 209 210 211 212 215 217 226 237 238 240 241 250 282 283 285 291 2 92 293 314 315 316 317 318 319 320 321 328 329 330 337 355 377 378 379 380 381 3 82 383 384 385 407 411 413 423 427 398 409 367 374 376 371 348 372 353 369 400 3 66 352 396 50 370 354 402 347 404 412 415 356 419 408 414 420 388 243 251 21 386 31 1 2 7 6 9 8 349 13 11 12 32 15 34 14 16 22 23 18 17 25 24 19 45 38 48 397 40 3 49 41 40 42 421 56 82 54 53 51 55 52 57 86 63 64 61 62 65 67 71 66 77 76 72 74 75 68 70 84 69 73 80 81 78 79 91 92 128 133 94 97 98 95 96 242 100 102 99 101 1 03 249 114 105 104 247 108 106 107 109 111 375 110 117 387 322 129 125 136 122 1 21 123 144 143 120 233 119 138 142 166 214 149 156 153 155 152 158 159 165 162 1 51 157 154 148 150 160 145 146 147 161 410 418 417 163 164 172 168 173 171 170 1 69 167 178 174 175 176 177 180 184 181 182 186 183 185 213 389 230 232 207 231 2 29 246 216 234 248 225 390 189 275 277 187 340 204 200 197 195 194 192 193 191 1 99 198 196 416 188 190 391 350 201 218 202 245 203 361 228 279 239 220 224 221 2 23 222 235 244 219 280 236 281 278 252 254 304 351 256 257 253 255 274 276 273 2 64 265 263 261 262 258 272 260 259 294 357 227 290 269 286 358 266 270 271 268 2 87 267 288 284 289 359 310 309 307 303 305 306 373 295 300 297 298 296 299 311 3 12 302 308 301 313 332 325 326 324 323 333 346 327 331 362 334 339 335 336 360 3 41 344 338 345 342 343 401 365 392 363 368 399 394 405 395 406 422 424 425 426 4 29 428 393 For instance, UID 112 is an encoded subject and should appear after UID 111 later on in the output. [Dovecot] Quota Display with Horde and LDAP
by Raja T Nair 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

Hi All, I am using dovecot-1.0.rc15 wth LDAP authentication configured. My webmail is Horde/IMP. While logging in, Horde gives `Unable to retrieve quota' message, instead of the usage report. capability string is: OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SASL-IR SORT THREAD=REFERENCES MULTIAPPEND UNSELECT LITERAL+ IDLE CHILDREN NAMESPACE LOGIN-REFERRALS AUTH=PLAIN] Dovecot ready. There is no QUOTA shown as part of capability, whereas courier-imap used to show it. I have uncommented the quota = maildir line in dovecot.conf. Do I need to do something extra to enable quota query from LDAP and proper reporting? regards, raja. -- +91 944 715 5548(Cell)

[Dovecot] Pre-rev1 compatibility
by Hans Werner Strube 07 Dec '06

07 Dec '06

What about adding some compatibility for pre-rev1 IMAP4 clients which are still around (e.g., CDE dtmail, even in Solaris 10)? Especially, the understanding of command FETCH message (... RFC822.HEADER.LINES (parameters)) instead of FETCH message (... BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (parameters)]) (with correspondingly changed replies) would be desirable and shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

[Dovecot] quota question
by Kenny Dail 05 Dec '06

05 Dec '06

I'm afraid I'm being a little confused by the whole quota setup with dovecot. I see references to quotas about, but I'm not certain how many of them apply to 1.0rc15. I currently have the conf setup as indicated on http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota So, in my setup, I'm using Postfix, Maildrop and Dovecot. Mailstore is on NFS. Dovecot is handling the pop3 and imap connects. There seems to be some trouble in the quotas because Courier counts quota one way and Dovecot in a different way. Quotas are stored on a per user basis in the MySQL DB. The trouble I'm getting is that very frequently the quota being reported is quite different from reality. This leads to erroneous over quota delivery errors. So what is necessary to make sure the quotas work as they are supposed to in my environment? Once again thank you very much for your help. -- Kenny Dail <kend(a)amigo.net>
