[Dovecot] Pop3 migration (was Status of commercial support?)
by Francisco Reyes 03 Dec '06

03 Dec '06

Odhiambo WASHINGTON writes: > | Courier 4 POP migration to dovecot. > > This should be very easy, I think. > Once you know the uidl format used by Courier 4 POP. The migration is Courier 4 to Dovecot using Maildir format. I used some scripts I found on the net and adapted them. I got everything to come over (ie imap subscriptions), except POP3 UIDs. My Courier POP3-uid files look like: /2 19 1164413643 <message file name>,S=28985:2,S 29648 10:1164413643 <message file name>,S=5913:2,S 6042 11:1164413643 <message file name>,S=5121:2, 5236 12:1164413643 <message file name>,S=5257:2, 5373 13:1164413643 <message file name>,S=5106:2, 5215 14:1164413643 <message file name>,S=5618:2, 5745 15:1164413643 <message file name>,S=30619:2, 31353 16:1164413643 <message file name>,S=34785:2, 35609 17:1164413643 <message file name>,S=6695:2, 6852 18:1164413643 My pop3_uidl_format is pop3_uidl_format = %08Xu%08Xv Looking at what Dovecot generates on a brand new pop account the files look like: 1 1164413643 29 10 <message file name> 11 <message file name> 12 <message file name> 13 <message file name> ... and more with the same format... So I write an AWK script which creates the proper first line and gets for each line the message ID and message file name. Yet after I do the conversion and run a pop3 client against the migrated pop account, old mails are re-downloaded.

[Dovecot] cache_key assertion error 1.0.beta8
by Frank Cusack 03 Dec '06

03 Dec '06

I just added auth caching with pam, and I'm getting this error: dovecot: [ID 107833 mail.error] auth(default): file passdb.c: line 178 (passdb_init): assertion failed: (passdb->passdb->default_pass_scheme != NULL || passdb->passdb->cache_key == NULL) A google search turns up <http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot-cvs/2005-March/004117.html> which looks approx like this except the assertion above is in passdb.c. Anyway, is this a known problem in 1.0.beta8? I've been reluctant to upgrade to the rc's due to all the problems. -frank

[Dovecot] Indexing transfered mails?
by Francisco Reyes 03 Dec '06

Going to be transfering a number of domains from a Courier setup to Dovecot. Is there a way to get Dovecot to index the files before the users access their accounts?

[Dovecot] Status of commercial support?
by Francisco Reyes 03 Dec '06

03 Dec '06

Was going over the archives looking for any info on commercial support. Only found some emails back from 2005. Is there commercial support available? If not, any consultants that could help with an installation. In particular Courier 4 POP migration to dovecot.

[Dovecot] [IDEA] Shared Folders via LDAP Lookups
by Gavin Henry 03 Dec '06

03 Dec '06

Hi All, We've been thinking a lot about the 2 different ways dovecot implements shares; namespaces and symlinks. We currently use the symlink version for our clients and they use the create_dovecot_shares.pl tool we did at: http://dovecot.org/tools/ Our idea is either in the namespace declaration or if a folder has a dovecot-shared file/symlink, have a ldap lookup defined in say, dovecot-ldap-shares.conf or dovecot-ldap.conf, that queries a dn and looks for memberUID or a group dn, then those uids/groups can get into the IMAP maildir. Obviously the original folder would need to be owned by some predefined user, e.g dovecot etc. Then it's just a simple matter of adding a new memberUID/group to the share listing. We can do a custom dovecot.schema if needed (for say a dovecotShare attribute etc.), as long as we get dovecot a Private Enterprise Number from: http://www.iana.org/cgi-bin/enterprise.pl If Timo hasn't already got one, but I can't see one in: http://www.iana.org/assignments/enterprise-numbers Thoughts? -- Kind Regards, Gavin Henry. Saw some messages before that Time wrote that the problem might be in the Dovecot.conf. What I changes was this: -- cut -- auth default { mechanisms = plain passdb passwd-file { args = /letc/deny.%Ls deny = yes } passdb pam { } userdb passwd { } user = root } -- cut -- Did I forget a '{' somewhere? [Dovecot] POP3 protection
by Jos Chrispijn 03 Dec '06

03 Dec '06

I have some users that I will not allow to use POP3 thru my system, but force them to use webmail. Would it be possible to put an extra option in dovecot.conf to force this: # ----------------------------------------------------------------- # Logon processes # user = <username>,<password> # ----------------------------------------------------------------- user = johndoe,another_secret_password user = mike,trouble_in_paradise If unix user johndoe logs on, he cannot fetch mail thru POP3 for he has a differect password from his logon password. thanx for listening, Jos

Odhiambo WASHINGTON: > Okay, Jos is just starting up administering e-mail services. One server, > 79 users max ;) Oke, i got the message; I am a simple home user with an _out_of_hand hobby and no commercial squils @ all :-) > SQL>update users set pop3 = '0' where username = 'jos(a)domain.tld'; > > That is faster than > cd /some/directory/path > vi somefilename > add entries > restart daemon (perhaps) You are quite right. But I still have some bad feelings about an extra sql database cause if this server is offline, my whole mailsystem is down. I fixed my problem with: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Authentication/RestrictAccess It works (thanks Jack and Timo) but now I have another little problem to solve (chaos theory lives!) > Over to you, Jos. I hope that my stupid questions still make sense after all <grin> Jos
