[Dovecot] IMAP/POP3 proxying and capability
by Laurent Papier 09 Aug '06

09 Aug '06

Hi, I setup a rather large POP3/IMAP configuration and want to use dovecot proxying feature. I have noted that the capability announce when connecting via the proxies are not the same before you are authenticated and after. Before you are authenticated the proxy announce is own capability and after it announce the final server capability. The problem is that some (most ? all ?) mail client ask for capability before authenticate to the server. So if the proxy capability are not the same as the final server capability the client gets wrong information. I use the QUOTA extension and it doesn't make sens to activate the quota feature on the proxy. Any other suggestion ? Perdition can hardcode the capability string the his configuration file. This is not perfect as the capability can change but it's an acceptable workaround for me. -- Laurent Papier - 03 88 75 80 50 Admin. système - SdV Plurimedia - <http://www.sdv.fr/>

[Dovecot] SSL hangs? Try this
by Timo Sirainen 09 Aug '06

09 Aug '06

Since apparently 1.0 RC5 didn't fix the SSL hangs for everyone, could you try if replacing src/login-common/ssl-proxy-openssl.c with this helps: http://dovecot.org/tmp/ssl-proxy-openssl.c It's basically the old proxying but with some new changes, plus hopefully also fixing the original rarely occurring hang which my rewrite was intended to fix.

[Dovecot] When auth_process_size is reached
by Bill Boebel 09 Aug '06

What does Dovecot do when dovecot-auth reaches the max size defined by auth_process_size? Does it just prevent it from growing further, or does it cause any problems? Thanks, Bill

Any other suggestion ? You can modify the "capability" variable around line 31096 of the "configure" file before you compile dovecot. Bill

[Dovecot] Issue building rc6 on Mac OS X (quota)
by James Berry 09 Aug '06

09 Aug '06

I haven't had time to put together a patch, but quota-fs.c fails to compile on Mac OS X. Any chance we could get a configuration switch that says "--without- quota"? I've resolved the problem temporarily by forcing HAVE_FS_QUOTA to undef in quota-fs.h. James

Re: [Dovecot] Dovecot imap with Postfix and using Thunderbird as client
by Shawn Needham 08 Aug '06

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew of the mysterious fix to this problem that Curtis describes in his followup: "I vaguely remember something like this, but I don't recall the fix" I recently installed dovecot on a server running RHEL4-AS-U2 and have updated to RHEL latest dovecot package, dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1. Seeing as this is close to the version Curtis is running (dovecot-0.99.14) I was wondering if anyone had some insights. There seems to be a Thunderbird specific problem when trying to retrieve messages from the server. Other imap clients (Mac OSX Mail, squirrelmail, etc) don't experience this problem, however Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 experiences it on Linux, Mac OSX and Windows boxes. In thunderbird, new messages don't reliably appear and the retrieval button doesn't work when new mail is present. Clicking on an email which isn't cached retrieves new ones as well as waiting around an hour to retrieve messages. Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. [Dovecot] Can't move messages
by Paul van Erk 08 Aug '06

08 Aug '06

Hi, I use dovecot with IMAP over SSL and with Plain Text authentication. I've been using that for quite a while, but now (with my new PC), it's not working like it should (I tried several 1.0* releases, including 1.0-rc6. The problem is that I can't move messages from one IMAP folder to another, no matter which mail client. When I use KMail, I get: "The connection to the server parena was unexpectedly closed or timed out. It will be re-established automatically if possible." But everything still works. The messages hasn't moved (deleting (so send to Trash folder) also doesn't work), it stays where it is. With Thunderbird, it just goes nuts in the status bar saying "Connecting..." and some other messages: clearly it tries to move, loses the connection and tries again and again... An extra weird thing is when I move a message from my IMAP account to a local folder, it works. And then I can move that message from the local folder to my IMAP account. It only doesn't work when moving messages within the IMAP account. I use: openssh 4.3_p2-r1 openssl 0.9.7j I hope someone can help me, 'coz my wife will soon start to find it just as annoying as I already do. ;) Paul van Erk

[Dovecot] rc6 compilation problems (obsd 3.9 stable)
by Michal Soltys 08 Aug '06

08 Aug '06

Starting with rc6, there seem to be problem with compilation on openbsd 3.9, (possibly due to autoconf 2.60 switch mentioned in other thread ?). Either way, this is what configure reports at some point (further compilation fails of course): checking for crypt... yes checking for dlopen... yes checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... no ./configure: echo $(top_builddir)/src/lib-storage/index/maildir/libstorage_maildir.a: not found ./configure: echo $(top_builddir)/src/lib-storage/index/mbox/libstorage_mbox.a: not found ./configure: echo $(top_builddir)/src/lib-storage/index/dbox/libstorage_dbox.a: not found checking zlib.h usability... yes checking zlib.h presence... yes checking for zlib.h... yes
