And all I can is drag & drop messages for example from pop3 inbox to the imap inbox. But I can't drag & drop any folder from pop3 to imap account. [Dovecot] Bug: ThunderBird and dovecot 1rc1

Hello! It seems to me that correct deletion of message in thunderbird still doesn't work with ThanderBird and dovectot 1rc1. As I've said before messages are not removed phisically from filesystem, just marked for deletetion. Though I'm not sure that this is dovecot bug and not ThunderBird. Anyone to clarify this issue ?

I realise it is very easy server-side but we have some Outlook users who are use to creating PST backups of their mail. What is a good open source alternative to the MS PST file? Does it just come down to what the Mail client supports? Keen to hear recommendations and thoughts on the topic... Gavin

Timo, My setup: Solaris 9, 1.0rc1, built like so: CC=gcc CFLAGS="-g -O" CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/openssl/include \ LDFLAGS=-L/opt/openssl/lib ./configure --prefix=/opt/dovecot.1.0rc1 \ --with-ssl=openssl --with-ssldir=/opt/openssl/ssl \ --with-sql-drivers=no --disable-ipv6 using gcc 4.1.0. Protocols are imap and imaps. My system paniced and crashed in the middle of the night, and after it came up the ssl-parameters.dat file was messed up. >From syslog: child 1965 (login) returned error 89 imap-login: Can't open SSL parameter file ssl-parameters.dat: Permission denied Nobody was getting their email via imap. So I removed the directories /opt/dovecot/var and /var/run/dovecot to get dovecot to rebuild the ssl-parameters.dat file. Questions: 1) Why on Earth does ssl-build-param take so long??!! (> 12 minutes on my E220R) What is it doing? How to speed this process up, and/or tune it? 2) Where does ssl-parameters.dat get written to? I found one copy in the /opt/dovecot/var/lib/dovecot directory, and one copy in /var/run/dovecot/login. Which copy gets used? 3) What are the permissions supposed to be for ssl-parameters.dat? The copy in /var/run was chown root:other and chmod 640. I could not get rid of the syslog "permission denied" until I made it chmod 644. 4) Likewise the directories /opt/dovecot/var and below get created chown root:other and chmod 750, with ssl-parameters.dat chmod 640. [Dovecot] writing a plugin for LDA to chain Unix pipes

Hi, I've spent some part of the last week on trying to figure out whether dovecot LDA meets our requirements for a new mail server infrastructure (the IMAP and POP servers, as well as the SASL backend certainly do; thanks a lot!). The one thing that's holding me back is that we need per-user integration of SpamAssassin and some other, custom content filters, all of which are implemented as Unix pipe filters. My conclusion is that since dovecot LDA cannot yet integrate such filters in the delivery chain, but it supports plugins, that such a plugin must be written. Conceptually, it's very simple: a configuration file option specifying the Unix pipe, and a plugin that does the proper popen() (or whatever is to be used these days) call, checking for errors and doing the right thing. Unfortunately, I do not have much time at my hands -- basically it all boils down to Sunday evening and a little bit of Monday, and then it's got to be done. My C is rusty, but I do have a lot of experience with it, so I am confident... ... but what would really help is if someone who knows the internals of Dovecot would give me a starting point, or even some more information. How do I conceive to write such a plugin? I could not find the information online, and I'd rather not reverse engineer existing plugins, for that approach usually leads to ugly and hence unstable/insecure/unusable code. Any feedback is thus warmly appreciated! Also, if someone is online on IRC on Sunday and Monday and wouldn't mind if I asked a question now and then, please let me know. It goes without saying that I will happily submit my plugin (once its tested) to Dovecot upstream under the Artistic Licence, or if that doesn't work, another licence of your choosing.
