[Dovecot] pop-3 login delay

We are running Dovecot 1.0.beta9 w/ mysql authentication. Mail storage is a Network Appliance F810 filer and we are using maildir. The only issue that we have run into is that pop3 logins take much longer than imap logins within dovecott and many times longer than a similar connection with courier-imap. For example, dovecot IMAP and courier-imap POP3 and IMAP logins take less than 1/2 second to complete the login. dovecot POP3 takes 2-3 seconds. I have disabled MMAP and am using fcntl. I searched the last few months of the archive, and being new here, didn't know if this had been discussed before or not. Thanks, --------------------------------------------------------- Joseph W. [Dovecot] 1.0 RC1 status #2

I've done several fixes since my original RC1 status mail. Most importantly I noticed that SEARCH command has been somewhat broken for a long time if the search condition contained OR or NOT conditions. Then again fixing that caused Dovecot to assert-crash for some searches. That should be fixed now. Hopefully I didn't break the SEARCH in other ways while doing this.. So, again, please test the latest CVS or the latest nightly snapshot from http://dovecot.org/nightly/ Especially I'm interested in: - Does SEARCH work correctly? - Does ioloop checks now work properly? There were mails about it being broken with kqueue and epoll. - Does mboxes with CR+LF linefeeds work correctly? I'm hoping to release the 1.0 RC1 late in sunday or in monday morning (EEST). Then a status update of my life in case you're interested: I got in pretty much everywhere I applied for: CS and biotech in Helsinki university and biotech in Tampere university. For Helsinki's biochem I'm the first in the waiting list, which means I almost certainly would get in there too. So, unless something suddenly changes my mind, I'm moving to Tampere in two months. I'm selling my current apartment, so now's your chance to live in the same place where most of Dovecot was designed and written ;) Or I think it could be a good investment also if you have the money. http://www.igglo.fi/ad.php?card_id=82322 has some information (in Finnish only), I'll get pictures from inside tomorrow. Would be nice if I didn't have to pay real estate agents (?) to sell it for me, so please buy it :) I'll keep my current job so this shouldn't affect the commercial side of Dovecot.

[Dovecot] Asterisks (*) in Folder Names disallowed?

As far as I can see the RFC for IMAP should allow the * character in the folder name. This is certainly allowed in UW IMAP. Dovecot seems to object however with: ERROR : Could not complete request. Query: COPY 9975:9975 "mail/*myfolder" Reason Given: Invalid mailbox name. Could this restriction be lifted? Best wishes, Daniel

[Dovecot] trying to build dovecot-sieve

Hi, I'm trying to compile dovecot with dovecot-sieve, both from CVS. There is file dovecot-config.in.in in current dovecot module, which produce dovecot-config.in after ./configure'ing. But dovecot-sieve requires file dovecot-config to be in dovecot's directory. I think it is just typo, because after renaming dovecot-config.in to dovecot-config the building succeeded. -- Sergey Ivanov

[Dovecot] quotas on shared folders

Hi, After using dovecot 0.99.14 on a production server with full satisfaction, I'm now giving a try to 1.0beta8 (I know beta9 is out, but it's not yet available within Debian). The new features are great. Maildir++ quotas seem to work fine, and shared folders look promising (despite a few issues). My problem is that I could not fire out how to set quotas on shared folders. This patchset add support for One-Time-Password authentication mechanisms, both S/Key (RFC 1731) and OTP (RFC 2444) are implemented. Tested with mutt (uses cyrus sasl library for authentication). Patches were made against CVS HEAD. Please take a look.
