[Dovecot] Dovecot-news mailing list created
by Timo Sirainen 02 Apr '06

02 Apr '06

New low-traffic list created for people who only wish to see new release announcements and possibly some other rare important announcements. Also from now on no-one can send mails to either of these lists with From-field containing "tss(a)iki.fi" or "Timo Sirainen", unless it also contains a valid PGP signature from me. If someone wants to see the script (and please check if there are any bugs in it, thanks :), it's here: http://iki.fi/tss/gpgcheck.pl

[Dovecot] imap processes remaing after dovecot shutdown
by Marten Lehmann 02 Apr '06

02 Apr '06

Hello, I'm using dovecot-1.0.beta3. When I shutdown dovecot (kill -term on the master-pid) the main process disappears, but all the child processes still remain. Why doesn't dovecot kill them as I shutdown the master-process? When I shutdown mysql, all child processes will be shutdown, too. When I shutdown apache, all child processes willbe shutdown, too. Thats what I expect on every application. Usually there is no need to shutdown dovecot. But for some reasons, from time to time 50 and more processes of one user are running and I don't know how else to get rid of them. I don't like to kill the child processes always manually. Regards Marten

[Dovecot] Auth user from sasldb with dovecot
by kami Nonstop 02 Apr '06

02 Apr '06

Hi I configured my postfix that i can access the file /etc/sasl2/sasldb2 and authorize the users how are added in this database. My smtpd.conf looks like this: mech_list: PLAIN LOGIN pwcheck_method: auxprop auxprop_plugin: sasldb My saslauthd is not running. And when i telnet to port 25 i can authorize my self like this: telnet localhost 25 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. 220 localhost ESMTP Postfix ehlo localhost 250-localhost 250-PIPELINING 250-SIZE 10240000 250-VRFY 250-ETRN 250-STARTTLS 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN 250 8BITMIME auth plain dGVzdEBtaWNyb3NlcnZ== 235 Authentication successful But my problem is now that i dont know how to configure dovecot that i can login to my system with squirrelmail or something else? Dovecot should use the user added in sasldb2. I read this Howto but can find a solution for this: http://postfix.hostingzero.com/SASL_README.html I hope someone here can help me? Thx a lot Cu kami

Re: [Dovecot] Quick question. Thunderbird/Outlook = no love.

Ok, it worked once, then stopped working. To get away from maybe it being a thunderbird setup issue, I made a little php script. And now I have an error that didn't show up in the dovecot log even though I have auth_debug and auth_verbose set to yes. Here's what the imap socket returned to the php script: Array ( [0] => Certificate failure for 10.0.0.208: self signed certificate: /OU=IMAP server/CN=imap.example.com/emailAddress=postmaster@example.com ) So, I gotta setup my certificate stuff which I can do, But couldn't this have shown up in the dovecot log somehow? -Charlie ----- On Saturday, April 1, 2006 fishgills(a)fishgills.net wrote: > Turns out some Anti-Virus email scanners don't support TLS. > > Sorry again! [Dovecot] postfix 2.3 SMTP AUTH and Outlook
by Antonin Karasek 01 Apr '06

01 Apr '06

Hi all, I just maked $SUBJECT to run. The main problem was, that in Dovecot are by default enabled only plain digest-md5 and cram-md5 authentication mechanisms. While MS Outlook knows only "LOGIN" mechanism. So, Outlook users wasn't able to use SMTP AUTH. The solution is to change a line in dovecot.conf: mechanisms = plain digest-md5 cram-md5 to: mechanisms = plain digest-md5 cram-md5 login I suggest Timo to change the default configuration, and the page http://wiki.dovecot.org/Authentication -- more precisely the line "LOGIN: Similiar to PLAIN, not very useful. [in 1.0-tests only]" -- I think, that this line is a little confusing. Becouse since one can use Dovecot for SASL authentication, "LOGIN" is starting to be useful (because of the M*S* bullshit). [Dovecot] var_expand and pop3_logout_format
by Alexander Sabourenkov 01 Apr '06

01 Apr '06

Hi. -alpha2 broke the retr-byte-count field of the pop3_logout_format with the following change: -Added %R (reverse string) and %H (hash string) variable modifiers. %R as modifier conflicts on expand with %R as retr-byte-count in pop3_logout_format resulting in expanded strings like: top=0/0, retr=1/ del=0/1, size=431 seen in -alpha3 -alpha4 cvs as of 04.11.2005 FreeBSD 5.4-R, both i386 and amd64 -- ./lxnt
