Hello, is dotlock supposed to work with NFS? I noticed that the default-locking method causes problems even with nfslockd started. Regards Marten

[Dovecot] Dovecot auth patch updated for Postfix 2.3-20051121
by /dev/rob0 09 Dec '05

09 Dec '05

Once again I have updated Timo's auth patch for Postfix 2.2.1 to work with a 2.3 snapshot. It applied cleanly and compiled and is running for me, but is not really tested. This is Timo's code, not mine. All I did was manually edit in the rejects from the old patch. Find it here if you're interested: http://www.nodns4.us/postfix-2.3-20051121-dovecot-auth.patch.gz md5sum: 6f01782a118f5407f1ed40f4714504cd postfix-2.3-20051121-dovecot-auth.patch.gz The original patch is here: http://dovecot.org/patches/postfix/postfix-2.2.1-dovecot-auth.patch -- mail to this address is discarded unless "/dev/rob0" or "not-spam" is in Subject: header

[Dovecot] Controlling Dovecot with Webmin
by Lee MSN 08 Dec '05

08 Dec '05

Dear Sir I have just setup a Fedora 4SE server, with Webmin - latest production release and Dovecot .99.14. The only way to start dovecot is to be logged into the server as root - locally or ssh, and type the dovecot command. >From Webmin - logged in as ROOT, when I attempt to start Dovecot it tells me that it can't because it can not open the config file - permission denied. This indicates to me that Webmin is not really logged in a "root" but that doesn't seem right since I use root/password when I access the server per the Webmin instructions. Also, in the Webmin configuration for that server - it references a master.pid file. Which did not exist. I tried to create a pid file using the PID (19638) of the Dovecot service. That did not help the start up problem, but I am sure needs to be fixed before I can have the service start on boot up?? I got the PID number after starting Dovecot and then going and seeing the services that where then running. The user/group Dovecot where created during the install. Sendmail is running along with SpamAssassign. When I start Dovecot, logged in as root at shell, everything runs well, email is processed all the way through. Do you know how to resolve this problem of controlling Dovecot through Webmin and making sure the Dovecot will start on reboot of the server. Thank you very much. Lee D. I am new to setting up linux servers like this. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! [Dovecot] Dovecot login hangs often
by P P Anwar 08 Dec '05

08 Dec '05

Hi - We have dovecot version : 0.99.11 release : 2.EL4.1 on Centos 4.2, with an LDAP backend (Samba PDC) and pam set to authenticate against LDAP. Dovecot is set to use pam for authentication. It uses mbox, and the machine has very little load (95% idle, no memory pressure). Every 36 hours or so, no users are able to login to imap (we have only imap enabled). Other services that use the same backend are working fine (like squid and ssh logins) even while this is happening. So we are not sure if we can blame this on pam/ldap problems. When this happens, we tried a "service dovecot restart", and that results in saying the "address is in use". About 10 "imap-login" processes seem to lurk around holding on to the imap port. We can get dovecot service to start again, only after a "killall -9 imap-login". What kind of debug should we enable so that you all can diagnose this further ? Any other configuration things that we should try ? We prefer to stay with Redhat/Centos releases, but if this is already reportedly fixed in one of the later builds, we are open to trying one. Regards, Anwar.

[Dovecot] Re: corrupt attachments
by Brian Thompson 08 Dec '05

Hello all, any suggestions on this? It seems like a pretty serious issue and it hasn't reoccurred since we switched back to UW imapd. As I mentioned, it seems to be related to dovecot compiled on Solaris 10/x86... The same code compiled on Solaris 8/sparc seemed to work well. -Brian Brian Thompson wrote: > > Not sure if this has already been covered, but any pointers > or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. > > We just realized last night that dovecot-stable seems to be > corrupting the attachments within users' inboxes. > > In an attempt to resolve the problem, we upgraded the > mail server here to Dovecot 1.0alpha4 but it didn't help. > > To the best of our knowledge we didn't start experiencing > this phenomena until we migrated from Solaris 8/Sparc > to Solaris 10/x86 about 3 weeks ago. > > To be more specific: > A non-corrupt attachment can be sitting within a user's > mail spool (mbox format) and live there without a problem > until an imap client goes to download the attachment via > dovecot. > > At that time, dovecot seems to be stripping the last four > characters from each base64 encoded ascii line within the > attachment and rewriting the message within the mail spool > without those characters. [Dovecot] "pop before smtp" dovecot.conf
by Jean-Marc Pigeon 07 Dec '05

07 Dec '05

Bonjour a Tous, I would like to generate (on the fly) a list "popbeforesmtp" when dovecot POP/IMAP authentication succeed. Intended Format will/should be such as: 'timestamp_in_second' user_id remote_ip one user per line. My guess we have all the needed information within dovecot to make such list. But I have seen no way to 'trick' dovecot (dovecot-1.0.alpha3) to do it... Could someone on the list able to give me some advices? I know there is Perl script to scan maillog file and extract information from collected data, but this seem to me 'a kind of the very last option'.... May be the trick can be achieved using 'executable' function? Ideally I'll like to have an entry in dovecot.conf, like... popbeforesmtp=/somewhere/in/the/tree A bientot -- ========================================================================== Jean-Marc Pigeon Internet: Jean-Marc.Pigeon(a)safe.ca SAFE Inc. [Dovecot] Pop-before-smtp and MySQL?
by Matteo Garofano 07 Dec '05

07 Dec '05

Hi, I found that dovecot have many nice features. Now I write because I'm tring to setup the dovecot server, I would substitute a qpopper daemon (patched for mysql authentication) The problem I find is to set up the pop-before-smtp using sql (mysq) as written in http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/PopBSMTPAndDovecot (Waiting for post_login ;-) I would use the script popbsmtp.sh and not a perl pig. (I'm using qpopper patched to store the relay IP in mysql and it works) I set .my.cnf in /root What happen is that the $3 don't contain the IP that should be written to the DB. Is there something I miss ? I tried to modify the dovecot.conf file like this mail_executable = /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/popbsmtp.sh /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/pop3 %r "%r" and it write to the db the litteral value %r and not the ip, otherwise it write nothing. the connection with mysql works and any other operation on it works. this should be the last step for my setting. Have you any hint? Thanks in advance and best regards Matteo Garofano

Hi, I am mounting a server of email with the Dovecot as MUA, i would like to restrict the access to imap and ipop to one determined range of IP. As I configure this in dovecot.conf, I did not understand the functioning of listen = * or [: ] Thanks a lot, Clovis -- Clóvis Tristão -------------------:-oo)---- Seja Legal, use GNU/Linux ----------------------------------------

[Dovecot] Tools to analyze status/stats?
by wolff 06 Dec '05

06 Dec '05

Hello, I recently installed dovecot on a server running Debian. I only have 10 users, but we probably have 6Gig of email between us. Things were working flawlessly for a couple of weeks, and I'm still getting email, but the last few days we are getting fewer emails that we typically do. So although things seem to be working well, everyone is suspicious something is wrong due to the lack of email volume. Is there a size limit that dovecot can manage? Are there any admin tools to get status messages for dovecot? Are there any reporting tools to show how many messages are processed/managed by dovecot? Thanks!!
