[Dovecot] Problem with openldap+nscd+dovecot

Hi, I'm having a problem with this setup: RHEL4 U4.2(Centos) + openldap + nscd The problem I see is that for some reason, after a couple of hours dovecot stuck in the auth procress. I do a : telnet localhost imap Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. * OK dovecot ready. 1 login user pass (here is the delay) After passing a username/password, the process is like stuck for some reason. I have to killall dovecot processes and do a: service dovecot restart and it work again. I have 1.5GB left on the disk and this problem just appeared now after month of working correctly. Could it be the disk space? How can I debug the problem? Should I migrate de 1.0alpha4? Does alpha4 have a new code in the authentication phase? [Dovecot] Not an IMAP4 Server?

I've been testing alpha4, and every once in a while my client (Thunderbird 1.5 RC1) tells me the dovecot isn't a valid IMAP4 server. This is usually (maybe always) when I first bring up the client up. If I just ask the client to get the mail again, it does so happily (without any errors). I must say I found dovecot as a pleasant surprise. We have been using UW. Which didn't scale well. I was considering going to cyrus, but dovecot seems to have given much (if not all) of performance improvements without all the hassle of conventing all the existing mbox mail to maildir. Thanks for your reply, I know that smtp auth is far better from pop-before-smtp but I have to replace a qpopper daemon and not ask any change from client site (they are thousands ...) So I must do the kind of setting I described. [Dovecot] authentication failure messages in log

Hi I'm using Dovecot 1.0.stable branch on a production Fedora Core 3 server. All is running very well other than I getting tons of these messages in the log (/var/log/messages): Nov 26 13:38:56 bmw unix_chkpwd[19360]: password check failed for user (xxxx) Nov 26 13:38:56 bmw imap(pam_unix)[19359]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty= ruser= rhost=x.x.x.x user=xxxx However the sessions are authenticating correctly and the user is able to down load the mail fine. I have tested this. I send mail to an account then login and download the mail correctly, however my session gets the above in the messages log. Each log on to dovecot get ones of these messages in the log. It making the log file large. Any idea on what it is? Regards Daniel -- "Unix is simple. Hi, I'm trying to set up dovecot-stable (http://www.dovecot.org/nightly/stable/dovecot-stable-20051124.tar.gz) All seems to be prepared correctly, but... my dovecot can not access the mysql database :( Connection string goes like this (i tried changing the order of parameters, that's why password is the first in the line): connect = password=***** host=/var/lib/mysql/system/mysql.sock dbname=vmail user=vmail But - in dovecot log I see: dovecot: Nov 24 23:53:05 Error: auth(default): mysql: Connect failed to vmail: Access denied for user 'vmail'@'localhost' (using password: TAK) Same in mysql log: 051124 23:53:05 171 Connect Access denied for user 'vmail'@'localhost' (using password: TAK) All settings in connection string are 100% correct - I have pasted them from dovecot-sql.conf to command-line mysql client and it worked, I have logged in. My copy of dovecot has been compiled recently, so all libraries are correct. Mysql version is 5.0.15 - but I doubt it is the reason... Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! [Dovecot] Newbie question: shared folders means..?

Hi, The website says "Shared mailboxes aren't yet supported". Does that mean that one shouldn't have two mail clients (same username) accessing the same IMAP account simultaneously? Or that Dovecot doesn't support distinct users accessing the same 'shared' Maildir box? Cheers, Jeff

I'm trying to build a new 1.0+ copy of dovecot. I'm trying to build it so I can use SSL. I tried the ./configure --with_ssl= option, did a make clean, then a make and a make install.
