I was just wondering how dovecot interacts with vpopmail. Does it just call the vchkpw and pass the username and password to it then wait for a it to tell dovecot weather the user is vaild or not ? Does vchkpw pass back the users homedir ? PS. My plan is to just replace vchkpw with a script/program of own. that dovecot can call to auth a user again xmail passwd file. And using "auth_passdb = static uid=<uid> gid=<gid> home=<dir template> mail=<dir template>" to fill in all the holes. -- Chris L. Franklin --

[Dovecot] imap catches sig 11 on EXPUNGE

Debian unstable, x86 # dovecot --version 0.99.12 # tail /var/log/mail.log ... Jan 6 16:56:55 gecko dovecot: child 16505 (imap) killed with signal 11 ... When I use squirrelmail, the imap process always segfaults when I try to enter my INBOX group. Squirrelmail produces the following error message: ERROR : Connection dropped by imap-server. Query: EXPUNGE When I use gnus, I can enter the group just fine, but gnus/emacs hangs on exit (100% reproducible, as is the squirrelmail case). Turning on debug info I catch this in the imap log: 37 UID SEARCH UID 1098 NOT SINCE 30 DEC 2004 * SEARCH 37 OK Search completed. 38 EXPUNGE read:errno=0 (hangs until emacs is killed) So in each case, it seems to happen on EXPUNGE. [Dovecot] migration from bincIMAP

Hello all I am using Freebsd 4.10stable, postfix 2.1.5 with SASL and TLS, procmail version 3.22 and binc IMAP 1.2.8 binc uses IMAPdir style mail boxes, Spam assassin, and ClamAV. Wish to convert to dovecot but your program does not support IMAPdir does it??? also i have many user accounts that i wish to use untouched if possible. I guess this is a migration question for the most part i am switching to dovecot because of its ability to use postgre database files and real log file. [Dovecot] Where are flags stored?

Hello, I don't now wheather this is IMAP or actually dovecot-specific, but I hope you people here knows about this at least: Where are flags like seen/unseen or e.g. message-priority stored? My goal is to mark spam or other filtered by procmail as "seen", so that dovecot doesn't notify MUAs about new mail in IDLE mode. Are there any mail-headers, so I can set these with procmail to accomplish that? Thanks for help, A

[Dovecot] Repair/Cleaup Maildir

After having fought an issue with Courier-imap on FC3 for a week (that is still unresolved), I decided to try Dovecot instead. So far, fingers crossed, the issue has not re-occured. Migrating from courier-imap/sqwebmail to Dovecot/Squirrelmail was reasonably painless but I now have an problem. Is there a utility available to cleanup/repair the maildir tree for each user ? As part of the migration, I copied all of the courierimapsubscribed files to .subscriptions and removed the leading 'INBOX'. This seemed to be enough to get things going. Unfortunately, people who had only ever used webmail didn't have a courierimapsubscribed file. When they next used squirrelmail, a new .subscriptions file was created but didn't contain their folders. I tried to fix this by recreating the subscriptions file for each user and adding in all the .directories in their maildir root. I now have a maildir hierarchy with lots of crud in it. I need a utility to go through and deleted all the files that shouldn't be there anymore and to ensure that the subscriptions files are correct. Does such a utility exist ? If not, can anyone tell me where I can find a good description of what Dovecot expects to find in maildirs so I can write one myself. [Dovecot] Extremely Slow Pop3 Downloads, Evolution 2.0.2

Hello All, We've been running Dovecot for imap for quite some time and have had little trouble with it. However, we recently switched over to using dovecot for pop3 because of simplicity as well as security issues with the older UW based pop server. I've noticed one serious problem. The only client that seems to have any issue at all with the server is Evolution. In pop3 mode, it takes a minute or more to download a few messages on an inbox with 400+ saved messages in it over gigabit ethernet. Over a DSL connection using MS Outlook 2k3 it takes about a minute total for all messages. Similarly with KMail it takes about 5-10 seconds to download all messages in the pop3 box. The messages trickle in with evolution 2.x, I've tried 2.0.0, 2.0.1, and 2.0.2 and all have this problem. I haven't tried the 1.x series as I don't have any linux boxes that old available to test. So apparently, there's two things of concern. 1. The server is definitely fast enough to handle the large mail box. 2. There's some serious incompatibility in Evolution/Dovecot causing for the 14.4 modem email download speeds over lan. We're running Dovecot 0.99.12 on Debian unstable, however 0.99.11 exhibited this behavior as well. If anyone has some hints, I'd greatly appreciate it. It's annoying having to wait 5-10 min to download mail in the morning when one gets into work ;) If there's any other information I can provide, please ask. I'm getting thease messages in log file: file istream.c: line 135 (i_stream_skip): assertion failed: (stream->v_size == 0 || stream->v_offset + count <= stream->v_size) kernel: pid 23364 (pop3), uid 1042: exited on signal 6 It doesn't happen very often, but I'd like to know what is causing them, any ideas? [Dovecot] Cannot access a file with Mulberry from a dovecot server if the mail does not end with a newline character.

I use Mulberry 3.1.6 on Windows to read my mails with dovecot 0.99.12 Solaris 9. There are some mail which I cannot read. When I try to open such a mail, dovecot quits and restarts (I can see that with ps, nothing is logged). The interesting thing is, that I can access the file with Netscape 4.8 via dovecot. The problem is the following: I copied the file in the Maildir directory, opened the copied file with vi and saved it. Now, I run a diff: | $ diff orig:2,S copy:2,S | Warning: missing newline at end of file orig:2,S | 12c12 | < <http://forums.mtgnews.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35559> | --- | > <http://forums.mtgnews.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=35559> As you can see, vi adds the newline on the last line automatically if you save the file. Now, Mulberry/dovecot is able to read this file. I'm not sure if this is a dovecot or Mulberry problem. btw: This problematic mail was created with Mulberry 3.1.6. ;-) Sven
