Hi, I am running dovecot on Fedora Linux in our organization and use IMAP as well as POP3 protocols for mail retrieval. I want to impose the following user based restrictions: (a) I want to permit only selective users to access either POP3 or IMAP server or both. (b) The server can be accessed from LAN as well as WAN. However I want to allow only selective users to be able to access POP3 or IMAP server from the WAN side (or on the basis of IP addresses). What do I need to do to impose these restrictions ? Thanks,

[Dovecot] APPEND issue with Thunderbird

I'm getting a strange problem with APPEND and Thunderbird 0.8. This was working fine in the CVS version from June 8 and is not so fine as of June 20. It works fine using Pine. It appears that imap is hanging when trying to append to a folder. Right now, an imap process has the file open for about 1/2 hour. It wrote the headers out, but not the body. When Thunderbird disconnects from it, it closes the file, but does not finish writing the email. Here's the difference in the commands sent by Pine and Thunderbird from rawlogs. These are different accounts. Hi, Is there any planned support for FAM http://oss.sgi.com/projects/fam/ in dovecot? One of my favourite features of Courier IMAP server is that it alerts my email client through IMAP when email has arrived. Regards, Mick

[Dovecot] pop3 retr error

Hello, I'm getting the following error while Mozilla Mail is downloading >4000 emails: The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving message. Mail server xxx responded: Message is deleted. So what's the error? Can't I retrieve a message, that has been marked as deleted before? If the Mesage-ID wouldn't exist, the error message would be different. I don't know what Mozilla Mail is doing and on which message id it is failing. Also, there's no output in the logfiles. Any ideas? Regards Marten

Hi, we recently switched from Imap-Uw to Dovecot as a pop3 server. I was wondering why people who have the flag 'Leave messages on server' in their email client (Outlook, Outlook Expres) that they receive duplicates of their stored mail? Is it because Dovecot doesn't know that the messages has already been popped by Imap Uw or is the email client which thinks there are new messages on the server and if so..how can I avoid this behaviour? hi, i'm newbie to dovecot. lately i install postfix on a server for providing mail service. however, i encounter a problem in receiving mail, i.e., to get mail download to the remote client.
